1. Best amps I've owned: GB Shuttle 6.0 -- current gig rig, lovelovelove it SWR SM-900 -- absolute tone monster but soooooo heavy Eden WT400 -- smooth hifi, lovely amp Trace Elliot SMX preamp + Soundtech 800w power amp -- oh the SMX, what a thing of beauty... still my favourite preamp section of any amp Hartke HA3500 -- current rehearsal-room rig. Yes it's a Hartke, yes I love the sound. Does this make me officially bonkers? Not so keen: Euphonic Audio iAmp350 -- ran out of puff far too quickly. Nice sound but gutless Carlsbro Delta 600 -- should have been brilliant, but really wasn't at all. The cabs were especially crap. Oh, and will people please stop saying how good the Genzler Magellan is. You are not helping my GAS one little bit.
2. The answer is, about as long as you did. You did nothing wrong. You're right, doing it stinks and you feel low enough to crawl out under the door. But it's got to be done unless you want the band to start sucking. Sticking with it just breeds resentment and the mate in question stops being a mate. The fact that he's taken it so well is a bonus.
3. Could be worse. It could have sounded great through headphones but pants through your rig.
4. No. Seriously, don't even consider it. Even if your wrist felt match-ready (which after 2.5 weeks I'm pretty sure it wouldn't), it won't be. I've had both mine done and didn't play in earnest for a good six weeks afterwards. Rest it properly, do your exercises, ease back in and don't push it, otherwise you could bugger it up forever.
5. Presumably it is a decal of some sort. Note that this is pure speculation, I do not know for sure. Also worthy of note is that there are already at least two threads I can think of dealing with the wider subject of decals and their legal/moral/aesthetic implications. Just sayin', as the errm saying goes.
6. Ooooh, Sally's gone all crackly she looks lush bro. What are the new pickups? Same again or different configuration?
7. Yes, I saw that programme too Fascinating stuff.
8. Bach only needed four That's not a bass, it's a harp Just buy a piano etc etc etc etc etc
9. Nnnnnice I'm still quite tempted by the idea of a nice Limelight '65 Jazz. It's the closest I'll ever get to a YOB J without winning the lottery.
10. All I know about Romford is, a) Trace Elliot started there in the back room of a shop called Soundwave, b} it has 'Roneo Corner', and c) an arrogant c*** of an uncle of mine used to live there (probably drank himself to death years ago, and good riddance).
11. First public gig: Location/Venue: The Red Lion, Brentford (RIP) Your age: 21, it was 1986. Mullet, stupid clothes, LOTS of slap. Your bass: my Wal Pro 2E, plus a Roland SH-09 for synth parts Your amp: Laney PB150 4x10 combo The set list (some of it): all original material, 80s rock-pop. Bloody good songs too. Anything else that might be funny/interesting/embarrassing: this first gig was a Saturday night support slot for Philip Jap's then band Secret Society. (A year later we were headlining and selling out our own Saturday night gigs at the Lion, while Secret Society were relegated to Fridays.) Nick Beggs was in the audience for one of our early support gigs with them. No pressure there, then.

13.
sending every event/thing in my calendar with the band. Quite frankly I don't want them knowing when i'm having a dirty weekend away, or if i'm having a doctors appointment. This means I either have to create two events (one with info and one just "busy") (= space for mistake) in the calendar, so my calendar also looks sh*te and unreadable (as well as the potential for mistake).
My band uses Google calendar to keep track of gigs and member availability. Alongside it I run my own Google calendar which has personal stuff in. The band calendar entries are yellow and personal ones green, to avoid confusion. Personal entries will be detailed, e.g. "Weekend at bruv's" and corresponding band ones are vague, e.g. "Rich out". It works well and isn't at all unreadable.
14. Mike Brooks gigged his a couple of weeks ago and had nothing but praise for it. To the extent that I'm considering one.
15.
It's because they're Canadian. We are very nice people, eh.
Fixed.
16.
OK this is not a band and my choice may shock and surprise you but I've grown to like Britney Spears!
*hands Lefty his coat* *points at door*
17.
The BeeGees. Ok it's a guilty pleasure but it's taken me to be a bit of an older bloke (early 40s) to realise what great songwriters and singers they were.
Yes! Same here.
18. I wish I'd got into Rush before I did. First album I bought was Hold Your Fire, first time I saw them was on that album tour.
19. The Clash were a great band. The Pistols were a marketing exercise.
20. I attached a homemade ramp to my Status bass using double sided carpet tape. It came off clean as a whistle when I removed it to sell the bass. A tiny bit of residue that came off easily.
21.
Perhaps, one day, the person doing the leering and shouting will find themselves the only one behaving like that in the entire audience, and will feel embarrased enough not to do it again. We can only hope.
Perhaps, one day, the person doing the leering and shouting will see his own daughter/wife/girlfriend getting the same treatment, and will realise just what a loathsome tosser it made him appear.
22. Re-opened at seller's request.
I am selling my 2015 Cort B4 Fretless Bass. The bass is in excellent condition. The only mark is below the EQ knobs (see picture). The mark is hardly noticeable but I include it in the pictures for the sake of transparency. Apart from this very small mark the bass is spotless. There is very light marking on the fingerboard underneath where the 'E' string has rubbed against the board. This is very light and to be entirely expected on a fretless. Cort basses play and sound way beyond their price range and the B4 Fretless is no exception. The bass comes with a months old fitted Cort hardcase. The bass and case have never been out of the house and never gigged. The bass is fitted with black Schiller strap buttons although the originals will be included in the sale. The strings currently fitted are Fender black tape wounds which I have found complement this bass rather well. I am asking £300 plus delivery to the UK. I feel this is a fair price taking into consideration the condition of the bass (only 2 years old) and the fact that it comes with a Cort hardcase. There is a big saving to be made here on the new price with case. I am not looking for any trades.
23.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Now put the 4's in their cases and focus on making the 5 work for you.
This. Play the 5 exclusively while you're getting to grips with it. Once you're happy with 5 to the extent that you're not having to think about it, get the 4s out again. You will find that, if you need to, swapping between 5 and 4 strings is quite easy.
24. Been using Schaller locks since 1986, not a single issue. Yes they're a bit'functional' but I don't mind -- I adore engineering, so for me functional design IS attractive
