1. I used Hotwires for quite a while until a spate of QC issues put me off (e.g. the rattly windings as mentioned by JL). Now an entirely convinced Elixir user.
  2. If I walked out on stage starkers, it'd clear the place quicker than a fire alarm.
  3. The money aspect depends on whether you're joining the band primarily to earn a living or have some fun.
  4. In no particular order:

Nice people, who I would be happy to count as mates.
No egos.
Music that I will enjoy playing.
Good standard of musicianship all round, but especially the drummer.
Professional attitude.
5. For me, Stevie's 'For Once In My Life' has got to be well up there. Jamerson at his absolute best, total mastery. This graphic representation gives an idea of its combination of fearsome complexity and effortless groove.

  7. Really liked the look of the SRH505 until I saw this in the specs... "16.5mm string spacing" Ugh. Far too cramped.
  8. Ooh I say. The GB75 and GB5 Custom look very much my cuppa char. Dear Santa...

I tend to socket all my transistors, I'm a bit wary of inadvertently frying them when I solder them in place.
  10.
i have the artec SE-2A in my one of my Franken P's and for the £20 it cost i really like it. it has bass and treble boost/cut on a stacked pot so you can use the existing 2 holes in the pickguard. ... EDIT the Artec SE-3 has mid control and is £15 on Thomann
I've got the SE-3PA in my Yamaha fretless, it's a great little unit and I'm chuffed with it, especially for the price. If the SE-2A is as good as this, it'd be well worth considering.
  11. EMG's BTC Control is a stacked bass/treb unit that works with any pickups.

  15. I'd always had a soft spot for bass, but when I finally got round to picking it up, the man I listened to for inspiration was the guy at front-left.

BBNE2 sale reopened at seller's request. GLWTS!
  17.
I loved the 80s. I was 4 when they started and 15 when they ended, didn't have a care in the world, loved every minute. Yes the fashion was shocking at times but certainly not a patch on the 70's. Music was everywhere, pop stars had actual talent and the bass was always high in the mix. If someone does manage to invent a time machine, send me back ASAP. 😊
Can I come? I loved the 80s, had a whale of a time.
  18. I've had my Höfner Artist since 1982 (my first bass) and my Wal since 1985.
  19. If you'd explained exactly why you'd done what you'd done to your own flippin bass and stated categorically that it was NOT snobbery, but someone had said that actually yeah it is a bit, and someone else had said that the only other reason for doing it was fraud, I reckon you'd probably feel slightly miffed too.
  20.
Yes. There is an element of brand snobbery in what you have done. The strange behaviour is the lightly veiled threat talking of accusations of fraud being thrown around.
Right. So despite the fact that I have specifically stated my reasons for doing it, i.e. purely an aesthetic preference as Trevor said, and have also stated that I am not a snob, you have decided otherwise? Despite never having met me or my bass. And you obviously don't know me if you think that was any sort of'threat', veiled or otherwise.
  21.
As for fraud, of course it is a major reason for people to use a fake decal. It's the first step anyone would take in trying to pass something off. I don't think 12StringBassist was lightly throwing accusations around, just stating the obvious, which, in turn, has elicited a very strange response from a moderator.
What is 'strange' about it, and what has my being a mod got to do with it? I put a decal on my bitsa. However, I am neither a snob nor a fraudster. Are you suggesting otherwise?
  22. I did a genuine out-loud "WTF??" when that popped up on my FB earlier. A real shocker.
  23.
I know its subjective, but that looks like baked vomit.
Yes, you're absolutely right... ...it IS subjective
