For this price range, I'd go for a custom build or a vintage Jazz.

The BIG FAT South-West Bass Bash, nr Taunton, 2nd April
Rich replied to scrumpymike's topic in Events
Can I suggest having a bunch of sticky labels and a Sharpie available so that people can make nametags for themselves if they want? We did this at the last national bash I went to and it was good to be able to put a face to a forum handle. I can source suitable items from my office stationery cupboard (I'm only borrowing them boss, honest) if required. -
mine are lovely... maybe I'm too selfish and I'm keeping all the nice ones?
No you're not. All the drummers I've played with have been nice guys.
I was very close to buying this instore when I got the dolly. It claims 70kg but it actually felt pretty flimsy when I opened it out. The footplate didn't seem very substantial.
It might feel flimsy but don't be deceived. I've had one of these (well, similar -- mine's a Magnacart from Costco) for quite a while and it's brilliant. Pretty sure I've been over the 70kg a few times but it shrugged it off.

I love playing I Wish; I suppose it's kinda repetitive but it's such a fabulous groove and our horn section do a brilliant job on it. My absolute favourite is our medley of 25 Miles, Papa Was A Rolling Stone and Uptown Funk. I go walkabout/ danceabout in the crowd during 25 Miles, stay out front during Papa Was as I'm basically the only bugger playing and then of course Uptown Funk is just a joy to play.

The headstock shape is pretty much the only bit of the Sire V7 that I don't like. Luckily the rest of the bass is so superb that I can easily overlook it.
Fender Performer? If the London Rubber Company had gone legal it could've been a 'Nocaster' scenario all over again...
Oh, the Fender Performer. LOVE the body shape. It should have been a massive hit.

Raffle? Cool, I'll have a dig around and see what i can find. Pretty sure I've got at least one set of brand new sealed D'Add nickels lurking somewhere. -
I know they look and play great and all....but you can kayak with the neck. Looks better in the photo than reality too
I see your A-C and raise you the Lodestone.

Oh my word, that is fabulous. There's a real '21st century Tbird' vibe about it.
Ditto. I may not be able to contain my urges if such a beast comes into production. I'm sure it will look nice next to my V7 5 string....
Double ditto. If they bring them out in the same configurations/finishes as the V7s, I'm going to be in all sorts of trouble. -
I'm sure the Mods will arrange for your expulsion as soon as they read your post.
Not me. That Pie thing bores the arse off me too.

Not a bass admittedly, but WTaF?

Utterly, utterly dreadful. I don't care how great the rest of the bass might be... this is a carbuncle.

80's brands that tried to kill your bass playing.

Carlsbro amps were the backbone of many a young band. Both the keys players in my band (yes, lots of synths... it was the 80s after all) had Carlsbro rigs, and I probably would have done too if my wonderful parents hadn't bought me my Laney combo. -
I guess it's the way of the world, but I remember reading an interview years ago with Hartley Peavey and he made a big deal about making everything in their range in the US and being proud that they didn't outsource anything. Times have obviously changed.
Was this the same interview where he said that South American rainforest destruction was a filthy lie put about by tree-hugging liberals, and he knew this because he had never seen any fires or deforested areas from the window of his Gulfstream?

The repairer himself may not have been professional, but his guide dog is.

My very first public appearance, a lunchtime gig with the dreaded 6th form band in 1983. - Höfner Artist II bass - Homemade 30w amp (made with substantial help from my physics teacher) - No-name 1x15" cab -- weighed as much as two sacks of spuds and sounded like them too. First 'proper' gig, August 1986, a support slot at the legendary Red Lion in Brentford (RIP). - Wal Pro II-E - Roland SH-09 synth - homemade A/B switch - Pearl flanger - Laney PB150 4x10" combo - two Klotz cables, both of which are still going strong Needless to say, the second gig sounded a lot better than the first..!

I reckon most people who buy a P or PJ bass would prefer a P neck. I wouldn't and by the sounds of it neither would you, but I'm guessing we'd be in the minority. -
My rig as listed in the other thread is my basic live setup. It's already as simple as i can get it -- bass, amp case, FX unit, one cab, couple of cables.

Fingers/thumb/Herco thumbpick (not all at the same time, obvs. ) -> Elixir 14202 nickels -> Shuker custom 5 or Sire V7 5-string (or bitsa P bass for my occasional blues dep) -> OBBM braided cable jack-miniXLR -> Line 6 G55 wireless (receiver rackmounted with amp) -> Behringer MDX2600 compressor -> cable snake Send ** -> Line 6 Bass Pod XT Live -> cable snake Return ** -> Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 -> homemade speaker cable -> EBS Neo-212 2x12" cab ** The snake (entirely homebrewed) contains two audio cables for Send & Return, plus the 9v AC supply line for the Pod. The PSU is fitted inside the rack case. I've taken a lot of time and trouble getting my rig to its current simple plug-n-play arrangement. It has reduced my setup and crash down times to an absolute minimum.
