1. I've always wanted either R1 CHW or BAS 515T And if either came up and I had the money to spare, I'd buy it. I see no difference between blowing money on a private plate and blowing money on something like a holiday or a few exotic meals. Any 'vanity' that might be involved is the buyer's business, not anyone else's. This is very reminiscent of the "why does anyone need to spend £2000+ on a bass?" argument.
 2. I had an SM900 for a while. Glorious sounding thing, utterly lovely, but oh the weight.
 3. My most expensive bass is a custom build that cost me the thick end of £1400. For me it was and is worth every penny. My main basses have varying costs and values, but for me that's immaterial as by and large they're keepers. There's no point in me comparing them sonically or constructionally as they're all chalk and cheese.
 4. Grab immediately. It's a classic.
 5. I used to have a Trace Elliot GP12SMX pre and a Soundtech 1U 800w power amp. Great sound, and loads lighter than a comparable Trace head.
 6.
Buddy can out play many of those guys dead or a live. I'm pretty sure Buddy would agree.
Oh yes, I'm sure he would. He was his own biggest fan, after all.
 7. Warwick do a 2U Rockbag. https://m.thomann.de/gb/rockbag_rockbag_rackbag_24210_b.htm?offid=4&affid=1&subid=174988ES&subid2=Rockbag+Rackbag+24210+B&origin=boost&gclid=CKuaicL37c0CFawp0wodOpMATw
 8. High-profile session work plus wall-to-wall prog... he's living MY dream!
 9. Predictably, it's complete bollocks, like all lists of this type. Good for a laugh if nothing else.
 10.
.....and yes, we did play for free.......but being fair, it was for a school event and was helping mate out!!
If it was free, I hope you played in your basement to your friends and family only? PS congrats on an amazing and frankly surreal experience, and I hope it works out
 11. I've got an Artec SE3P EQ in my fretless Yamaha, it works really well. The sweepable mid is ideal for fretless. They do various configurations. Got mine off fleabay. http://artecsound.com/pickups/electronics/index.html
 12.
Total cack. Like The Archers.

Absolutely.
OldGit would be challenging you two to a duel right about now.
 13. It never ceases to amaze me just how much louder the backline has to be for outdoor gigs. I suppose the physics is obvious in a fairly 'no sh*t, sherlock' way, but the difference is really major. I love outdoor gigs
 14.
Beatles Beatles Beatles etc etc etc etc
Do I really need to point out that my 'tribute band' comment was not entirely -- or even slightly -- serious? It must be a cultural thing.
 15. My unpaid non-Beatles-influenced tribute band needs some new music stands for 4 hour gigs -- they should have plenty of heft and good handles, and be good for metal. Any suggestions?
 16.
Unfortunately your probably only going to find that sort of management in a professional band. Blue
Hogwash. A band doesn't have to actually be professional to have a 'professional' attitude, approach and organisation.
 17.
When we do festivals they are usually unpaid. We look on them as a bit of fun, and good advertising.
Oh noes! You said the U word! I know exactly where this thread is going to go now.
 18. The Chain. Specifically, the 'Formula 1 bit'.
 19.
Yes, unfortunately recruiting the guy that can play and show up, well usually there's a cost with those guys.
So what's the suggestion here? Hobby players are incapable of playing and/or showing up?
When I have discussions with my gigging contemporaries, venues or clubs always comes up and what follows is "What's the pay?" We will also discuss other bass players in terms like; Oh Bill he"ll take any gig if you throw $100.00 bucks at him " Or yeah Steve got that gig with the band that had the casino gigs, he made 12k last year from gigs"
Well given that you're doing this for a living, that's not entirely surprising.
Would you guys agree this is truely a cultural difference?
No. I would agree that it's the difference between doing it for a living, and doing it as a hobby.
BTW, we're playing The world famous Summerfest in Milwaukee tomorrow on The Johnson Controls World Sound Stage.wish me luck.😔
Good luck. Hope the pay is good. Oh, and have fun.
 20. That seagull must have eaten a hell of a lot of tinfoil.
 21. Only if they're good for 4 hour bar gigs. And metal.
 22. It's probably just me, but... whenever I see the word 'reliced', my mind interprets it as 're-liced'. As in, "the previous lice have all died, so I'm sending it off to be reliced". No? It's just me, isn't it. Ok, as you were.
 23. Oh, and I use a folding Magnacart for getting everything from car to stage. Means i can (usually) do it in one go.
