1. Antex irons are pretty good, my old XS25 iron was reliable and consistent. I have a Weller soldering station that I, ahem, borrowed from work and it's lovely. Worth looking for a similar setup on fleabay IMO if you're planning to do a lot of work in the future. I also have an Antex Gascat gas iron which is great for portability.
2. This isn't mine, but mine was identical. My first decent amp, a Laney ProBass 150w 4x10 combo that my wonderful amazing parents got me for my 21st birthday. It was a marvellous amp, and served me well for many years.
3. +1 for the Sire V7.
4.
And what type of physical condition your in also matters. If a guy is sporting a huge arse there's going to be some limitations.
'Arse'? Not 'ass'? We'll make a Brit of you yet
5. Everybody's calling it a 'non-story' and 'not news'... well given that it's in the Magazine section, I don't think it's actually intended to be news, just an item of interest.
6. Nice article about The Munch here. It raises a very good question... how long does it take to stop being the hired hand/new boy/etc. and actually become part of the band?
7.
Worst gig?=.......Pub in the middle of nowhere. No audience. Just the bar staff. And a cab driver taking the numbers up to three briefly but apparently sent to the wrong pub. This is what can go wrong. Any thing else by comparison is welcome.
Treat it as a rehearsal.
8. Any news?
9.
in my hurry to get my vampire teeth out
If I had a tenner for every time I've used that old excuse...
10. +1 for the Chowny CHB-1. It's not the woofy 60s monster that the retro looks might suggest, the tonal range is quite astounding. I eagerly hope for a 5-string version, for which I would be at the front of the queue.
11. You did say "If you've got any more questions..." -- maybe they don't?
12. Cooler than the flip side of the pillow
13. Oh if only OldGit were here... he had a great argument in favour of p2p, I wish I could remember it. 😕
14.
pathetic isn't it but not to worry I'm sure the thread will soon be locked lol
It will if the insults keep flying.
15. Thanks for the heads-up! Now I know which channel to avoid
16. I don't mind a few dings as long as I put them there. If anyone else dings it, I get moody about it. I definitely agree with blue re: neck dings though, they are annoying.
17.
I don't think it's narrow mindedness, if you listen and don't enjoy it then that's it, trying to force it onto people won't make them like it, just dislike you maybe.
Similarly -- if you listen and don't enjoy it then that's fine, but trying to tell people that it's officially rubbish and somehow not 'proper' won't make them agree, just irritated. NB. Not accusing anyone of anything, just putting an opposite view.
18.
Another endorsement for Jon Shuker here.
And another here
19. This is how my bitsa turned out.
20.
I know Walter Trout has played a lowly Squier Strat for donkeys years. I'm sure he could have any guitar he liked but wouldn't be without the Squier.
Francis Dunnery (ex It Bites) was the same -- for years his #1 guitar was a white Squier Strat. He had 'proper' Fenders but always drifted back to the cheapy. He used to say a guitar was only as good as its neck and for him, the Squier's was perfect.

Has anyone built an isolating hum-free ABY switcher? I've found this schematic and am wondering about putting one together. Anyone made one? http://www.geofex.com/FX_images/humfree2.gif I've seen the thread on diystompboxes and was wondering if anyone has had the same problems?
22. I went the bitsa route. Started off with a Squier Jazz neck I liked, found a cheap solid body on fleabay (the seller measured the neck pocket for me), and went on from there. How about this as a start? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201713748283
23. Oh dear.
24. Have a free "ooh look, it's my old bass!" bump Served me well for many years, sounded great and played like a dream. And that quilt top really is very lovely.
I had a go on this beauty and it really is something very different. A real Diva.
That's gorgeous. It even manages to make Delano's silly oval pickup look good.
