Surprised noone's mentioned Pete Doherty yet
Arrgh. I've been trying to forget he exists, and was doing very nicely right up until a few moments ago. So, ta

My oldest shirts are my Rush 'Hold Your Fire' tour from 1988, my It Bites 'Made In Cumbria' from 1987, and my Level 42 'Standing In The Light' from 1983. I think the last one deserves a medal -- it's in one piece and entirely wearable, but alas I have expanded in the intervening 32 years whereas it has not.

It's the "I don't care, I love the way Wal basses sound" thread...

A couple to add -- more proof that you can play rock on a fretless Wal (or at least, John Giblin can). Both from Fish's splendid first solo album 'Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors'. State Of Mind Family Business -
it's worth wading through the pretentious rubbish for the good bits and the happiest of endings, liked his £100 bet with Norman that he'd be dead by Christmas, wonder if he paid up?
The pretentious rubbish became too much for me in the end and I gave it up. I just wasn't in the right frame of mind for arty farty nonsense. Maybe I'll try to find it on YT or something at some point and give it another go.
WTF was the ridiculous headless chickens bit all about? Absolute bollocks.
Redemption, 'Snowfall on Judgment Day'. I seem to be listening to a lot of prog rock/metal lately, loving it all.
Yep saw them {Rush} on a number of occasions and the mix was terrible. However in 2011 attended their show in Dublin. sat 14 rows back, dead center and the sound was terrific,as was the performance
Sound quality appears to be a complete lottery at Rush gigs. I saw them at Wembley Arena in 1989 and it was dreadful, I didn't hear a single bass guitar note all night. Then I saw them at the NEC in 2004 on the R30 tour and the sound was terrific.
There's been a vintage SB1000 on sale on Cardiff Gumtree for £895.00 for a week or so: https://www.gumtree....ning/1142706176
That is gorgeous. If you're going to spend big wedge on an SB1000, I'd take this (or one like it) over a new one any day.
how about a pickguard in the form of the gold number circle from the front of the Lotus? (It would be oval obviously, but could still look pretty cool)
Best looking F1 car ever.
It Bites - Manchester 1986, went along with some mates who were smitten with them, for me they really sucked. On a positive note they were supported by The Cardiacs so the night wasn't wasted. There have been others others but It Bites, take the crown.
Weird isn't it, I saw them round about the same time and for me it was the exact opposite -- hated the support but loved IB. Mind you, IB's brand of proggy nonsense is right up my street anyway, so they were never likely to disappoint
The plastic peeling bits mentioned in the OP are supposed to be there for protection surely? Peeling them off is part of the fun of a NBD :-)
This! Peeling off that plasticky protective film stuff is a big part of the fun of a New anything Day. -
Sire V7 MM Bass. Controls designed by a blind 5 year old?
Rich replied to logicred's topic in Bass Guitars
The controls are slightly fiddly and they'd be hard to adjust on the fly. But I never adjust controls on the fly, so... *shrug* ☺ The rest of the instrument is so damn good, I'm happy to look past any shortcomings in the control layout. It doesn't affect the playability or the overall look. -

I always wanted a Superheadless. Still do, actually. A real 80s funk monster
If you are interested in that sort of thing, see if you can put another neck on.

Might struggle with that, being a thru neck and all.
I haven't tried the Hofner so can't comment on that, but if I was after a semi I'd have the Chowny in a heartbeat. They really are terrific instruments, comfortable and easy to play and the range of tones available is quite astounding. The blueburst is beautiful.

New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire
Rich replied to Clarky's topic in Bass Guitars
I sold my trusty old 90s wooden Status to get my V7 fiver, and I don't regret it in the slightest. Now the neck has settled down and relaxed a bit, I've done a proper setup and got the action down to my preferred fag-paper proportions. It's almost playing itself now. Sure the tuners aren't Hipshot-smooth, but they hold tune perfectly well. The bridge is nothing to write home about, but it's solid enough and nothing moves if you don't want it to. The only thing I miss is a ramp -- I had a homemade one on the Status and had got used to it. -
I'm going to move this to GD for greater visibility. Very sad news. I agree with Billy and Lozz -- Phil, Eddie and Lem were the definitive Motorhead.
Today I are mostly working my way through the Queensryche back catalogue, and realizing that I had forgotten just how very very very good they were.
Oh good lord, Eddie Jackson's bass tones are sublime. His sound on 'Disconnected' (from Promised Land) is just HUUUGE. It sounds like god clearing his throat.

I've had two on two different basses -- one was a permanent fixture on my Wal for well over 10 years. Yes the tuning can be a slight faff, but it is only really when you re-string, and the convenience is well worth it. To my mind it's one of the best mods you can make to a 4-string bass.
