1.
I'm just curious as to why people start threads like these then ignore everything said in it.
Must admit the same thought had occurred to me too
2.
I concur!
Me too. I recall reading an interview with Eddie Jackson once where he said a key part of his recorded sound was a thing he called The Trunk -- basically a flightcase containing a mic and a 12" speaker that was cranked to the very edge of destruction and the sound mixed in alongside the clean tone.
3.
Somebody who loads £5000 of equipment into the back of a £500 car to travel 50 miles to be grudgingly paid £5 by a landlord who reckons you should have done it for "exposure" and seems to think he's running Carnegie Hall rather than the Dog & Duck
Fixed again.
4.
Harp? That's what all the whingy emo-rockers call anything with more than 6 (sometimes 4)strings posted on a facebook Bass page. Anyone who's seen it will know what I mean.
Those feckers wind me right up. "It's a harp", "just get a piano", "Jaco only needed four", etc etc etc ad feckin nauseum. And they always seem to think they're the first person ever to say it, ooh look at clever old me with my original cutting edge humour. Luddite twerps. The sort of people who wish bass R&D had stopped dead in 1954. Yes I know everyone's entitled to an opinion. Well this is mine. Sorry. [/rant]
5.
That's what I've been told. Personally I like to think they sound like "Chowny Basses". They definitely have a distinctive tone.
It's the variety of tones available that gets me. There's even a video of a guy slapping it on the website, and it sounds great. It's not just a one-trick woofy Hofneralike, faaar from it, although it'll do that if it's what you're after. Sorry if I'm coming across like an advert here but I really like these instruments. Especially the blue
6. If you take out the existing preamp, you're left with what is effectively a knobless passive Jazz bass that happens to have a battery box already fitted. In theory, it will take any preamp that will fit in a standard Jazz cavity.
7.
Awlrite Rich, you were first, don't be an archhole about it
Oh fudge off you wander 😄

9. The only famous bassists I've met are Herbie Flowers, Stu Hamm and Mo Foster. All three are lovely guys more than happy to chat. Mo in particular is an absolute gent. Mr Flowers was even kind enough to roll us a 'jazz Woodbine'. Mind you, that was many many years ago.
10. I reckon 'Rushbo' would have looked cool in the Fender script. Rushbo Prescription Bass. Make it so!
11. 6/10. RAWWWK! ish.
12. Pretty much my only issue with the Miller preamp is the ridiculous amount of boost/cut available. One barely has to touch the bass control and it's instant rumble. For me, it's unusable past about 1/2 way -- if it's +/-15dB then I'd have been happy with +/-7. It'd be more musical & usable. Obviously YMMV.
13.
On the matter of Whirlwind cables - I have two Whirlwinds that I bought around 1990 which I'm still gigging with over a quarter of a century later, so I'm pretty happy with them.
I see your 1990 and raise you my two main cables are a pair of Klotzes (sp??) that I bought in 1986 after everything except my Wal was stolen. Used for almost every gig ever since. Having said that, I've just ordered my first obbm cable (for the wireless). So that lot should do me till I croak
14. It's not a Squier neck.
15. Oh lordy, an April '65 Jazz... not just a YOB bass, but a MOB bass. *whimper* [Img]http://www.cotswoldbassguitars.co.uk/images/190/FenderL65%20001.jpg" class="ipsImage" />
16. Holst's Planets Suite? It is a thematic concept, after all.
17. The 'Bangs & Crashes' album of 12"/remixes has a couple of live tracks on it, both with Graham Edwards on bass. The album is worth having just for 'Ball Of Confusion'.
18. Scenes From A Memory and The Astonishing by Dream Theater (especially the former) Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds

21. Bellowhead -- their bass instrument is a sousaphone.
22. Yup, good call.
23. Ok. This year is REALLY starting to piss me off. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-35499149
24. 1. 1965 Jazz Bass. 2. Wal 5-string. 3. Errm... 4. ...that's it.
25. Yup, another very happy EBS Neo212 owner here. Best cab I've had since my SWR Triad.
