1.
Bah! - got to be the real thing. Cheapies don't compare as they have the same old plastic lenses instead of B&L glass in them. My current pair is still as good as new & have lasted ten years so far. I know how old they are as I bought them from the sunglass hut in the World Trade Centre when I was sent on an all-expenses paid fools-errand to New York in 2000.
Well sure, I'd love the real thing. But I can't afford the real thing :)
Added to which, there's no way I'd take a pair of real Raybans anywhere near a Destroyers stage

  2.
dr1, love the video, really grooveworthy, but I think faithless is being quite fair. He didn't try to give advice, just pointed out what the thread was about. I read faithless' post as just voicing a friendly concern so as to try and avoid this thread ending up as another heated debate between members who like discussing avantgarde playing/players, and members who think bass is all about the groove (which I wholeheartedly agree with!).
I agree entirely. There was no need to jump down Faithless' throat, his comment was perfectly reasonable.

mcgraham is right, the last thing we need is yet another "it's just fretw*nking / no it's not / yes it is" thread, we have dozens of them already. Some of us like contemporary jazz, nu-jazz, fusion and so on, and it'd be nice to be able to discuss it occasionally without constantly being told that we like sh*t music. Is this really too much to ask?

  3. I'd have been tempted to use a left-handed neck for the lower one, so the tuners didn't get too close to the headstock of the upper neck. Still, this is a fascinating (and very different) project and I'll be interested to see how it turns out.

  4.
Wayne, any chance to explain, what the heck does this mean?
It's been a whole page since Wayne last reminded us that he doesn't like this sort of stuff, and I think he's worried that we've forgotten. :)

  5. My old fretless Jaydee Roadie had/has an unfinished ebony board... in the 20-ish years I owned it, I never did anything to it other than polish it occasionally. Absolutely no cracking and very little marking even, despite the fact that I always used roundwounds. It's brilliant stuff.

  6. Having said that I was definitely up for this, it turns out that I can't make it. I've had to rearrange a couple of my weekends with the kids, and as a result 10th/11th is now one of them. I'm really sorry about this, I was looking forward to coming along and bringing the Shuker/Wal/Genz/Nemesis lurrve
Hope you guys have a great time, and a million thanks to you John for all your organisational work.
    Gutted. :)

  7.
LSD soon turns you in to a twat IME ;-)
Don't worry Dave, if Si started disappearing up his own butt, his missus would soon bring him back down to earth :) she's great

I do a lot of BVs with my other band and it's great, I really enjoy it. The one thing I still cannot do though is talk and play... we do the band intros during one of the songs, and when I introduce the singer I have to stop playing and it sounds a bit daft.

  8. Cracking stuff! I particularly like the way the keys player just wouldn't shut up :)
I'm going to have to track down some of these guys' work.
Watch Joan Hickson as Miss Marple.
Eek. No thanks, I'd rather listen to a Manowar CD

  9. I've got two Klotz leads which I've had for nearly 24 years and are still going strong. They appear to be indestructible :)
If it was me I'd buy the bits and make my own (I do for patch cables), but for off-the-peg leads I'd go for OBBM or Klotz.
