1. Well I liked it, but then again I like jazz and prog and fusion, so I obviously enjoy music that disappears up its own arse and therefore have no taste
im sure im missing the point but i fail to see how palladino has influenced so many bass players, there was nothing inspiring about that just - as others have pointed out - a demo of technical ability and surely music disappearing up its own arse
Are you judging his entire appeal based on this one clip? It's not remotely representative of his career to date.
Belgium ! Hooray !!
yeah, brilliant Why no UK dates?
 2. I recommend it if you can make it, Si's band are a great laff and you're guaranteed a good time.
 3.
If you have a neck you like take it to Jon. When i had mine made i was in love with the neck on my MTD Kingston, so i showed him that and he made it spot on!
Likewise, only in my case it was the neck from my Yamaha RBX765A which was the most comfortable 5-string neck I'd ever played. I gave the Yam neck to Jon to copy, and mentioned in passing that I was thinking of defretting it. So when I got it back, he'd defretted it for me Yes there's a bit of a wait involved, but you'd wait a lot longer for a Wal and a hell of a lot longer for a Fodera. I can't/won't comment on the standard of Jon's work when compared to other small volume luthiers, as my personal experience of their products is limited and would therefore be unfair. All I will say is that his work is exemplary and that I am cockahoop with my bass. The only thing I am likely to change in the future is the pickups (from EMG to Delano, probably).
 4.
I think it's a shame that people can't lend their gear, but these days people generally don't give a f*ck out you or your gear so we have to say no.. that said in some circles there is mutual respect, but the venues, the originator is talking about.. I think not
In a nutshell. If we knew for a fact that the anonymous bloke who has just asked to borrow our rig would treat it with utmost care and respect, there'd be no problem. But we don't.
 5. Can we not do the pay-to-play thing here? It's a whole different can of worms to the original subject. It has been covered before so it might be worth searching for and/or resurrecting an old thread.
 6. I've got one of these (Tanglewood Rosewood Reserve) and it's the loudest ABG I've ever played.
 7. Recorded the HD last night, have just watched it. Excellent.
 8. I seem to remember the old Roland D50 having some good bass sounds. They're going for round the 100 mark on fleaBay. I wouldn't mind one myself.
Hope your hand heals quickly.
ditto
 9.
Huh, another 'Jaco victim', (as I call them), along with Laurence Cottle, Herbie Kopf and many others, innit?
How so? I hear no Jaco in Cottle's playing.
 10. Hey, I was at that gig :-) They were really cooking that night. Earthworks were fabulous too.
 11.
For a Rock and Roll band Flea is a worthy winner. Can't think of the likes of Jaco, MK or the plethora of technically better bassists fitting in with the rock and roll mentality
Yeah, that Entwistle bloke would have been rubbish in a rock band...
 12. Finished it on the ferry back from Ireland. It's a very good read, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Bassmonkey's next, then it's: Baboom MacDaddy Mickeyboro OG Skinz molan
 13. I broke a string in 1987. Only time it's happened.
 14. Back in the early days, Mark King was my god. Today it's a much broader church -- I guess my current favourite is Marcus Miller, not just for his bass playing but for his all-round abilities as musician, writer, producer.
How could I forget Tony Levin! (slaps head with palm).
He's a slaphead with what..?
 15. Lovely, simple rig. And what a monster, I bet it must sound like God clearing his throat. The cab weighs, what, 35-40lbs..?
Err no theres 4 thats right for a BASS
Errm, you were saying..?
 16.
I can't abide people who think that their opinion is gospel and go mad if other disagree with it.
This, x 100,000,000.
 17.
anyone who thinks that bass is just for people who can't play guitar [s]is pretty f***ing ignorant imo[/s] needs to be beaten over the head with a slab bodied P.
Fixed
 18. I started on bass, have stayed on bass and always will. I have a guitar and noodle about with it sometimes, and yes it's probably easier to work out ideas on it, but as an instrument it doesn't interest me anywhere near as much as its big brother. Having said that, I wouldn't mind a Parker Fly and an old Tele
 19.
Silddx is absolutely on the money here - except for one really important point - it's "widdly widdly woo"
Agreed, except that I think you'll find it's actually "diddly diddly waaaaah".
 20. If that was the last bass on earth, I would take up the bagpipes. Or harmonica. Or jew's harp. Anything except play that.
 21. *whimper* me want, muchly muchly. I'd whack a D-tuner on it and leave everything else as is. Beautiful.
 22. Nice colour. Goes well with the pearly plate and maple neck.
 23. Do you have any possible trades in mind at all, or are you just after luncheon vouchers?
 24. Google is your friend.
