1. 17 basses in total, still got 10. 13 amps (incuding combos) and 10 cabs in total, still got 3 amps and 3 cabs. Of course, as we know the real dreaded question is: "So why have you got so many basses when you've only got one pair of hands?". Experience has taught me that the best answer to this question is NOT "Well, why have you got so many skirts when you've only got one fat arse to wrap them round?"
 2. Well, I thought mine was going to be the first phaser to grace this thread...
MXR Phase 90 - Borrowed from a friend
...but no. Apart from aforementioned Ibanez PH7 phaser, I also use an Ibanez PD7 distortion, Boss CEB3 chorus and Yamaha octaver. All used very sparingly.
 3. I am going to start a luthiery business purely so I can produce a bass called a OverWoodDingWalembic
 4. My very first gear: 1964 Höfner Artist 2, purchased for £20 off my metalwork teacher. Still got it. homemade 30w amp, made with help from my physics teacher. no-name 1x15" cab Replaced by my first half-decent gear: Columbus Jazz Phoenix PHA-1 100w amp Custom Sound 4x12" cab
 5. God, is this album really 34 years old??
 6.
I am not selling it not sure why everyone feels seeing a picture will improve thier judgements!! It could be a picture of an empty shell! lol
What makes you think we need the pics to help improve our judgment? We're just nosy bastards, that's all And we like lusting after bass p0rn. The T3 is a modern classic.
 7.
It's a lot easier to get a good sound out of a bass that plays well and sounds bad than to get a bass that sounds amazing and plays like a dog to play better.
If it feels nice to play, has a decent neck and good action and blah blah, then go for it. New pickups don't have to cost the earth, and like neep says, if you find it doesn't work out you can always flog the new pups on and minimise your costs. And the best of luck -- looks like an interesting project.
 8. Hell yes* C'mon you Bristol massive, it's only 46 miles. No distance at all, in fact my daily commute is further than that. We have some amazing kit between us, it could be a cracking day Only thing is...
Shaftesbury Christian Centre
I'm an atheist. Will I get struck by a huge bolt of lightning when I walk through the door? *subject to checking the domestic diary later.
 9. Going to shift this to the Amp section. I've always found Eden to be very accommodating. Good customer service. The user forum is helpful too.
 10.
My two favourites are Captain Bassman's GA24 with the pointy head & Moo's Starchild (made recently in 2008.) Apologies for the theft of pictures
That GA24 is gorgeous. The Starchilalike, not so much.
 11. So many guys go for that -face eq, eradicating everything between 100Hz and 1kHz from their sound, and then wonder why they can't be heard properly. Oh dear
A lot of sound guys are not musicians per se
It's bloody handy when they are though! The best live sound I have ever had -- and one of the very best we've had as a band -- was by our very own Joe Garcia
 12.
Speak for your self. And apart form the Esprit, Europa and Ventura, in the main the Fret King models are essentially well-known shapes with strangely shaped pick-guards.
OK. In my opinion we are a mostly conservative bunch -- if we weren't, the more unusually-shaped Fret-Kings would be flying off the shelves faster than they could make them. Is that better? I'm still willing to bet that the majority of players would choose a 'normal' shaped bass over a wilder alternative. Although I am of course just voicing my own opinion here and speaking for myself and so on.
 13.
On a 4-band bill, the three other bands all used Stingrays/Sterlings (two played with picks, one with fingers) through an Ampeg head and an Ampeg 8x10. I used my Thumb bass through a Hartke LH500 and a Schroeder 1212L. I could barely hear an effing note any of the other bass players played all night - they just blended into the rock sludge of their guitarists. But apparently I was "really loud" and everybody I spoke to said it was nice to hear what the bass does because "usually you can't hear it". Indeed.
Do you reckon the sonic difference was down to your bass or rig? I'm guessing the latter.
 14. Top review I've moved it to the Reviews section, where I've amended its title slightly so that it appears alphabetically.
 15. Choice between those 2 pics? Burst. But I'm with fretmeister, GAD's blue with maple one looks gorgeous.
 16. Like many others here, I like that PJ bass a lot and yes I'd like to see a fiver too! Candy apple red with pearly plate like the prototype, please
 17.
I largely agree with you but maybe they're conservative because they aren't offered much variety?
Warwick's Adam Clayton monstrosity is basically a P bass. How many people would choose it over a similarly-priced 'ordinary' P? Not many, I'm willing to bet. One man's interesting cutting-edge design is another man's WTF. We are a conservative bunch -- if we weren't, Fret-Kings would be flying off the shelves faster than they could make them.
 18. Some years ago I did consider spray-stencilling my fusion band's logo onto the grilles of my cabs... but at that time, they were cheap Peavey 4x10s so I didn't worry too much about spoiling expensive gear etc. It was a simple monochrome logo designed by our graphic-artist drummer and would have looked the dog's parts if I'd gone ahead with it. Nowadays with the kit I've got, I definitely wouldn't do it.
My avatar is our drummers Bass drum skin, and i think it looks the businness.
I bet it does. Kick-drum decoration seems to be something of a dead art, I remember a time when every kick drum in the world featured its band's logo. Well, every band on TOTP anyway.
 19.
Mods, do we have that 'yawn' emoticon yet?
20.
can be a bit Shi-Shi
A bit what..?
 21.
No no no no no no no
Yeah well it's all right for you, ya hairy git Some of us need lagging.
 22. I Wish I Want You Back / ABC Born To Run
 23.
- £100 refund I'm not sure what to do at this point. £100 barely covers the work I'd want done at minimum, which is a nut replacement, setup (and possible a fret level). And I'd have to shell out more than that to strip the finish to get the bass the way I'd really like.
I agree with what others have said, 100 quid should be more than enough to get those things sorted. And the main reason it was cheap in the first place was because of the bashed paintwork, so it's a bit unfair to bring that into the equation. TBH the further it goes the more it sounds like you're trying to talk yourself out of keeping it, so the best thing is just to send it back and get a full refund. You obviously aren't overjoyed with it.
 24. Excellent. Especially looking forward to seeing how the tree of life turns out.
