    Aww, grand. I don't like pointy basses as a rule, but there's something about the Explorer shape that I really like. I wish I'd bought an Aria ZZB back when they were dirt cheap.

    I use Elixir nickels on everything. I like a reasonably bright tone with a bit of snap, and with Elixirs lasting as long as they do, this means I only have to replace them every 18 months or so. So with two working basses, one of which is a five, this means my string expenditure is effectively about £5 a month.

    I tell you what, it's a great song to play when you've got a fabulous female voice in front of you and a big horn section behind you. Who cares if it's little more than a whole lot of low Fs, it's one of my favourites in our set. Real crowd-pleaser too.

    I would note however that the penguin has appeared on the menu in previous years, but each time the food on the day has been noticeably devoid of any trace of said aquatic bird. Can we finally expect penguin sandwiches to be available this year?

    I saw Alain Caron in Mike Stern's quartet some years ago. Yes it's fusion, so he took a couple of solos, and one of them was so damned melodic the tune actually got stuck in my head and I found myself whistling it next day.

    They're still humming the tunes because you can't get away from the bloody things said band are still wheezing out the same songs in their 80s. Ah well, at the end of the day it's all subjective. Some people like 'em. Me, I wish they'd never picked up a mic/guitar/comb & bog paper.

    I'll happily mention it. It's so bad, it makes really bad things look great. I like this remix.

    Some of Toyah's songs take me straight back to the 80s. Thunder In The Mountains gives me a nostalgia rush so fierce I can almost smell & taste it. (In a good, non-yucky and non-smutty way.)
