Recommend it? God yes, it should be required viewing for all musicians.

I bought one of these late last year, cheap as chips. Unlike chenzo, I was actually after a standard phaser rather than crazy/wierd sounds, and it fits the bill just fine. I think it is probably capable of a certain amount of weird, it certainly seems v.flexible. I haven't used it live yet, or really investigated it too deeply. It works fine for bass, it's not a tone mangler or low-end sucker. More blurb here.

That is UTTERLY gorgeous. In the massively unlikely event that I finally dipped my toe into Stingray-infested waters, that would be the one for me. Still not keen on the Bongo, and the least said about the Big Al the better. And I still reckon they are all overpriced.
but then you can't really fake a magnum
Anything can be faked. Even breasts, apparently. My 2p? run away, very quickly.

The guy leaves me cold, but I hope you all have a good time if you're going. 41 quid for a pair of tickets isn't too bad in the scheme of things, I seem to remember paying far more than 20 for my ticket to Jazz Cafe gigs in the past.

If money were no object, what bass would you have?
Rich replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
I already have The Bass, so I'd be more likely to spend the dosh on new cabs -- Bergs or the like. And an Audi S4 Avant to carry them around in -
You can thank young Mr. tenfloors for that, it was his idea to pin them.

Yes Please Visually balanced headstocks -- i.e. 2 tuners a side, 3 over 2, etc. Exotic body woods (most of them anyway) Neck edge LEDs Multi-laminate necks Colour-matched headstocks, e.g. lake placid Jazz Hi-spec überJazz type basses Wooden control knobs Not Too Keen Visually unbalanced headstocks -- i.e. 4 tuners in line, 4 over 1, etc. Neck front LEDs Lakland’s oval bridge plate Plastic control knobs Oh God, Pass The Bucket Buckeye burl Pointy headstocks sparkly DiPinto and Italia basses Those silly oval Delano pickups Pretty much all Gibson basses (except the old Les Paul Triumph, which for some reason I really like) Steinberger cricket-bats Chicken-head control knobs
Yet another +1. There's loads more variation in 5 string basses than there is in 4 strings. I favor the variety that have the same spacing as a four string (which tend to be more expensive of course). Other players like the 5 strings crammed into the same width as 4 and everything in between. Other than that, I think the place to start is to just play as if it was a 4 string using the B only as thumb rest. Get used to the feel and the extra string being there. Go from there!
IMHO string spacing is the key. My first foray into 5s was with one that had narrower string spacing than a 4, & I found it much harder to swap between it and a 4 than I did a regular spaced 5. YMMV however. Try as many 5s as you can and see what works for you, and have fun finding out!

Never used a Monster cable, although I do have a Planet Waves one that is soon to be winging its way back to them after letting me down. a couple of weeks ago
I've had a Whirlwind cable for 17 years, still going strong!
I have a pair of Klotz cables that I bought in 1987. They get used at every gig and are still going strong!
Now, two questions... How many do Warwick expect to shift? I bet it's £3500+ And, why all that effort with fancy woods for just a pbass pickup? It's a passive pbass by the looks of it. I like Pbasses. I like Warwicks. I don't mind Mr Clayton. But seriously, they must be stoned at the R&D department. The same thing with the Zender, a Streamerbacker..£5000, and that inlay at the 12th....bleurgh.
Totally agree.

If I joined a proper tribute band, I'd consider getting the 'correct' bass. As long as it wasn't something I detested, anyway

Yes, they do! The absolute epitome of cool. My god, has it really been 24 years? -
I must remember not to smile when I play in future. I don't want to look self-indulgent.
HI, I am seeing your bass on Web and want it. I have £150 I know that is lower than your starting cost but I am quite poor and like basses I think it is good to help poor people can I have your bass for that cost or lower please/?
Oh yes. That's an absolute belter  I see no problem with using an auction sniper if I know that I'm not going to be on line at the time the auction finishes -- e.g. during working hours, or at 2 in the morning or something.

Oh yes, big Tony Fisher what a fantastic live band.
Ha ha, Marks voice sounds really good! He did well to hit those high notes. The Heathrow inspired fills and groove are nostalgic too.
Yup, his voice has rarely if ever sounded better. And the Heathrow-esque feel to the bassline is great... reminds you of the old days... Yes it's cheesier than the Dairylea factory, but who cares? Made me smile

That's an absolute belter you've got there. Love the h/stock design, a cool twist on the old favourite. Is that an East preamp?
Not very seasoned here. Link? Or summary if it's from a site no longer in operation? Or PM if it's contentious?
Back when the multi-drivered Jones stuff was The Next Big Thing, one of the guys here started a 'Good or crap? Discuss' thread looking for opinions. Mr. Jones presumably googled his name (hence my reluctance to use his full moniker) and came across this thread, and immediately launched into the OP in a big way -- you obviously know nothing about amps, who the fck are you anyway, I've got loads of big names playing my stuff and you're just an insignificant nobody, etc etc. Thus instantly alienating pretty much this entire community and losing a few thousand potential customers, thanks to his breathtaking arrogance.

Some of the more seasoned people here will remember how a certain Mr. P. Jones (he of the dalek cabs) reacted to criticism a few years back...

The reviews on HC are of tremendous value. They have made me larf my nads off on many a dull afternoon.

Synth bass can be great, and so yes go for it I reckon. Many moons ago I had an old Roland SH-09 mono synth which I used for bass... big fat (sorry, phat) Moogesque noises, god it was great. How much do I wish I still had it.
