1. TBH I didn't think the Star Bass review was any worse than the review of the same bass in Bass Player mag. Yes, the home recording page did bellow "FILLER!" quite loudly, and more reviews of sub-400/500 quid gear would be good. But I stand by my previous comments re: the interviews. Much better writing, much more informative. And I agree with silddx, the session player feature was very good. You know what they say, you can't please all the people all the time

RIP R,5,R,5...

It's tragedies like this that make you sit down and think hard about what's really important.

I'm off to NZ.

Christ on a bike, that's an incredible view. I'm off to check the flights to NZ Good luck with the job mate.
4. Women say you can never be too rich or too thin. I say you can never have too many basses or too many pants.

RIP R,5,R,5...

My god, that's no age at all. Sincerest condolences to his family. A sad day.
6. I remember years ago, Trace Elliot used to say that their 15" cabs actually had a brighter top than their 10s, just not as punchy or snappy. Is this generally the case with 15" speakers?
7.
my girlfriend at the time kept swinging the door open and letting it crash into the bass
Yup, I can see why!
8. Just got the latest one today. For my money, the best issue yet. Good interviews, now a million miles from "where do you get your ideas?" predictability. And thankfully, none of the reviews contained the phrase "dialling in"..! Keep it up guys.
9.
Not buying a Wal when they were £500 s/h I feel quite depressed now
Would it depress you more if I told you I paid £330 for mine..?
10. +1 for what Jan said about the preamp... get the best one you possibly can.
11. 1:25, there he is. Oh god, we are so unworthy.
12.
When you're stood on stage naked, painted blue with yellow polka-dots, hair on fire, slapping the strings with your erect p*nis, and people are STILL watching the flaming Lead Guitard and Singer.
 ps. sorry, I just had to amend the thread title... typo was doing my head in
13.
Jeff Berlin has said something pretty similar at clinics he's done. ... He then went on to ask people in the audience if they spent lots of time working on techniques such as tapping etc. & many said yes. He then asked how many of them had ever got booked for a session or been called upon to at an audition to use these techniques and invariably the answer was no.
Yes, I've heard him come up with that before. He seems to be arguing that there's no point in learning something unless you're going to get paid for it. Now call me a radical, but what's so wrong with playing or learning stuff for the enjoyment of it? If getting paid was the be all and end all, I'd never get to play a note.
14. Awwwww man, that is fabulous. Love this guy's playing. My favourite Marcus track is 'Eric' from his 'Tales' album.
15.
Stay in school Don't take drugs
Huh! Ow! [/jamesbrown]
16. Mmmm, I like that Dodge Copperhead colour. If you could get that paint to work, it'd be a cracker. It'd need about a million coats of lacquer. EDIT: Apparently it's called "Copper Fire Orange"
17. Of course, there's a whole new Fender 6-string bass now. And what a fugly munterfunster it is too.
18. Rather than ordinary purple, how about that colour-changing flip flop type purple stuff? Actually no, that's a really awful idea too. You'd have to be several bricks short to even consider putting such stuff on a bass [s]called Sally[/s].
Metallic British racing green.
Vvvvvery nice. Although metalflake colours can be an absolute bastid to get right. They are often best left to a pro paint shop. I'm liking the idea of bright yellow. What sort of paint do you have in mind? Car colours?
19. Purple? Actually no, that's a bad idea. A terrible one even. Nobody in their right mind would have a purple bass. In fact, you'd have to be an utterly barking hatstand johnny-no-mates to even contemplate a purple [s]7-string[/s] errm, [s]headless 6-string[/s] bass.
20. My regrets, all going back to the late '80s: 1.Not going up to London with my mate Keith after our band folded. He went to Drumtech and kept phoning me up begging me to come with him and go to Basstech. I didn't. Stayed at home. I got a job in a boring humdrum office. He got a job touring the world with JTQ. 2.Not buying the pre-EB Stingray I saw advertised for 250 quid. 3.Not buying the Dodge Challenger I saw advertised for 850 quid.
21. £2k+ for that pig?? *falls about in uncontrollable mirth* Well they've got a sense of humour, I'll give 'em that much. I never thought I'd ever see an uglier bass than the Bongo. Shocking. Still, it's horses for course I guess.
22. Pretty much everything Bernard Edwards ever played. Playing the notes is easy, it's getting that irresistable groove thang going that's so difficult. Good Times is a perfect case in point... it's what he doesn't play that makes the line such a classic. If you see what I mean.
23. Our most popular floorfillers are: Let Me Entertain You Disco Inferno Hard To Handle (which we segue into Beyonce's Crazy In Love) Long Train Running I Want You Back (segued into ABC) Walking On Sunshine Play That Funky Music
24.
Keep the faith, mate. You can do the gig. If it's blues orginals you can sort the starts and ends and wing the rest. No one will know if you are doing it right or wrong. Never sell your gear when depressed. Wait 'til you are happy and sorted and fullfilled.
Wise words from the Very Old One there. Never eBay when drunk, or sell kit when fed up. Sooner or later you sober up/cheer up and then regret doing it. Stick with it, big man, it'll all come good. If not this one, then the next one. Don't hang up those boots for good.
