Easy for me to say, but try not to be nervous. And for god's sake don't be tempted to go for any dutch courage beforehand. Make sure all your kit is working properly beforehand. Don't fiddle for ages getting a sound -- plug in, switch on, say you're ready. Be friendly, & give an air of professionalism. Do what you are most comfortable with. Don't pull a massive face or grovel any apologies if you fluff something. Enjoy yourself, or at least look like you're enjoying yourself, and above all, GOOD LUCK! & let us know how you get on, OK?

Anybody remember the old freesheet Making Music? It was brilliant in the early days, and the readers' demo reviews were good there too. After a while though, it started becoming apparent that the demo reviewer only gave positive reviews if the demos were in her genre of preference. Not exactly impartial. -
I've used Audacity to create click tracks as varying BPMs, exported them as MP3s and then put them in a "click tracks" playlist on my iPod. That way, I can create the MP3s with as few or as many bars as I want, and all with existing software and accessories....so no cash for specific gizmos and gadgets.
Good old Audacity, it's a thing of beauty. I'd be a bit lost without it.

I saw the National Youth Jazz Orchestra a few years ago. Stunning.

After the 1000000 comments on the proofing, or lack of it, I reckon they can probably take that one as read! -

Has the original s/plate aged nicely (apart from the damage)? If so, keep it. If it just looks a bit fecked, change it. Maybe for a colour rather than white?

I must be the luckiest buggger in the world, because all the bands I've ever been in have been great ego-free places. The Destroyers especially is like a big family, and we have a whale of a time. Especially on the far-flung weekend-away type gigs... we all book into the same hotel together, all get trashed together, all nurse our hangovers together. It's brilliant.
To keep - 1. Cover Interviewees - there has been a good range of feature interviews with people from a wide range of styles and interviews. 2. Transcriptions/technique/theory - again, pretty good as is IMO.
+1.
4. He borrowed them from me. And no, he's never given them back. Oi. Berlin. Trainers. Buy your own.

I use one of these for compression... the compressor is one of the best you will ever hear at any price. Highly recommended, and because there's a newer version out (the 'Pro') you can pick these older ones up for 60ish on fleaBay. I did! They make for an absolutely brilliant recording preamp too, which is what they were originally intended for.

I had an embarrassing experience with a Tesco PP3 battery once. No, nothing like that. Basically the Tesco PP3s are a couple of mm shorter than everybody else's, so they were making only intermittent contact with the, errm, contacts in my Status' battery box. So it kept cutting out. So the moral is, Tesco PP3s? nein danke. I too buy the Duracell Procells ten for a tenner. Brilliant value.

We all have too much time on our hands, or we wouldn't be here so often.
-
They didn't strike me as slagging off the extras though. There was a passing comment on how expensive it had turned out and one guy said he wouldn't personally bother with the bells and whistles, but there wasn't much else in a -ve vein, unless I've missed summat? And they did give the GB a million marks out of 50 at the end of the day.
A musician that has never been bothered about looking cool is a rare commodity. You should be in a museum.
If I was bothered about looking cool when I play, I'd sell all my kit now Many years ago when I was in a band that was trying to get signed and be the next big thing, it was different. Although I never extended my fashion-consciousness to my choice of bass, but it didn't seem to be so important back then. It was the image rather than the instrument.
Well, you have to wear it, don't you? And when you wear it everybody in the room is staring at you, so of course it matters what it looks like.
I prefer to think of it as everybody in the room is listening to you, so it matters what it sounds like. Look, I'm a slapheaded old fart and I don't play in even remotely trendy bands playing even slightly fashionable music, so looking cool honestly doesn't matter a rat's arse to me. You're obviously younger than me and so it's completely different for you. 25 years ago I would have agreed wholeheartedly!

The difference being that a well thumbed copy of METRO is more likely to be picked up than the Da Vinci Code, and has a far more plausible plot.
-
Luckily I borrowed the Da Vinci Code, so it didn't cost me money to find out just how appalling it is.
You've got a proper bee in your bonnet over that haven't you? Cheer up, Rich. I take it you've got one of those uber-naff basses so I've upset you again? Sorry. Again. Ish.
Bee in my bonnet? Nah, not at all, I just find it utterly hilarious that anyone could place so much importance on how 'cool' an instrument is/isn't, like it's a pair of trainers or something. And yes, I have a dreadfully naff Status, as well as my hideously out of date coffee table bass, all of which is in keeping with my enormous personal lack of fashion sense. Ask me if I care, go on.
