  1. I wouldn't bother, most clip-ons are pollocks.
  2. Minety Music Festival on Friday night. Oh what a blast. Big crowd, they loved it. Predominantly twentysomethings, they sang along to everything but they were in loudest voice for our horn-driven version of Glee's take on "Don't Stop Believing". VID-20230630-WA0006.mp4
  3. Likewise. I have two Klotz cables that I bought in 1986, still going strong.
  4. You're right. All these puns are giving me a splitting haddock.
  5. A] Coiled using the cable's natural twist and then fastened in a round? B] As per A but then fastened as an '8'? C] Quickly coiled round your hand & elbow ignoring the cable twist? D] Shudder.
  6. Having almost exclusively used my Sire V7 fiver for soul band gigs for the last few years, last night I took the Shuker out for a spin instead. Oh my god, I'd forgotten how lovely it is. I think the Sire will be gathering dust for a while.

I often find that I've forgotten how good some of the great basses I have locked away in cases are.

Best surprise ever - a "new" bass for free.

  7. My personal sound check is the bass part from the Dan Reed version of You Can Leave Your Hat On. Plenty of longish sustained notes, lows and highs and a few snaps, and repetitive. The ska band's sound check song is 007, as it features all the vocals and brass and isn't usually in the set. The soul band's check song is usually whatever we've most recently been working on. Doesn't matter what, as everyone plays and sings on every song anyway.
  8. A bandmate and I are going to a friend's surprise birthday party tomorrow, and I thought I'd look into taking the train... the train journey takes 2.5 hours (there are changes) and will cost 60 quid return for the two of us... it's a 90 minute drive and will cost approx 20 quid in fuel for the return trip. This, right here, is why nobody travels by train.

Neither my wife or I drive, so we use public transport a fair amount. Train fares are an absolute rip off to get around the country. We got a "two together" rail card a while ago that helps bring the cost down, but it's still expensive.  That said, the amount of time we use the train, it probably still works out cheaper than owning a car.

  9. And I'm going to listen to some music. I fancy Sole Man by Salmon Dave.
  10. It was either that or "Now look here old chap, this simply isn't cricket, what".
  11. I'd rather listen to Reg & Bernie's music than the vast majority of the dross I hear on the radio, so... *shrug* Yes, that probably makes me sound like an old fárt. Yes, I probably am an old fárt. No, I don't give a fck.
  12. Rat Trap - Roomtown Bats Rat Trap... Mousetrap... a play... geddit?!?!!???

    Following with fascination.
  14. This is not the plaice for fish puns.
  15. Throwing your weight around, pontificating and using phrases like "issue you "claim" to have" (are you suggesting he's lying?) are going to win you no friends at all, and just makes you look like a braggart. I politely suggest you wind your neck in a bit.
  16. If you still have the Sadowsky in your signature, I for one would definitely be interested in seeing it. Would be good to see you with or without bass though.
  17. What, like sea bass? God, the food just keeps getting better.
