1.
I can concur with the above statement albeit in my very limited experience. My 2 4x10's sound better together than my 1x15-4x10.
And my pair of 1x15s sound better than my old 2x10+1x15 setup did.
 2. And I'll put a "DANGER Beware Of The Alligator" sign on the gate.
 3.
Almost every theatre gig I've done has involved a contract specifying PAT testing but, as you say, pubs don't seem to bother (yet?). The going rate seems to be £3.00 - £3.50 per item. Leastways, that's what we've ended up paying. LOL I agree that most people you approach are not really geared up to be PAT testing gear for a 5 piece band and that this should indeed be a pinned topic. Same comments apply to the Public Liability Insurance issue too.
There is now a pinned PAT testing topic/list. Glad to be of service I put a wee dab of threadlock on the screws of the terminals in my mains plugs. It doesn't affect the electrical contact but it helps to stop them loosening.
 4. Damn, just too far away. If there's a similar guy in the Bristol area, I'd be very interested. If you are one or know of anyone, please shout. EDIT: now stickied.
 5. I've got the ER20s in blue, which makes them a bit conspicuous, and I've also fitted the connecting cord which is also blue and even more conspicuous. Doesn't bother me a bit, in fact it means people are more likely to ask about them which gives me a chance to recommend them (and hearing protection in general). And the cord also stops me from losing them No earplugs? no comment!
 6.
It doesn't matter.........all of this................... Some music you like, some you don't, doesn't mean it's crap if you don't, it just means you don't like it. Why all the antagonism?? U2 are a good band, who 1000s of people around the world like, and 1000s of others don't. Who gives a sh*t either way??? I like cheese, but I don't like rice pudding. Does that mean all rice pudding is sh*t? Music is music, and it's diverse and fantastic, whatever the genre, and whoever made it. You might not like it, but someone else does. All music is great, that's why we're all musicians no??
I tried saying something similar about 1000 pages ago & got roundly ignored. It's getting less like a debate and more like a playground scuffle the longer it goes on. Oh, and treacle tart kicks the living sh*t out of rice pudding.
 7.
U2? What's that all about then?
U2? Absolutely diabolical. It was notoriously difficult to fly and land, with a very high stall speed and a need for extraordinary equipment balance, leading to many operational accidents within the first few months of its operation. Later versions have however addressed most of these early faults.
 8. These remote control socket thingies are brilliant. I've got them on any mains sockets hidden behind furniture etc. I got them from B & Q and they're good for the whole 3 kilowatts each. Using them for stage lights is a wizard idea.
 9. It's bloody nonsense. You expose yourself (fnar) to well in excess of 80dB simply by walking along the pavement next to a busy high street.
 10. We did the whole "sales = quality? discuss" thing on the Liam Gallagher thread. It's a worthwhile debate, but let's not go there again...
 11.
I just got back from a gig where we got requested by some drunk punter to play 'With or Without You'... I laughed to myself, thought of this convo and politely declined
Good job you managed not to actually laugh out loud, or said drunkard might have taken it the wrong way
 12.
I'm guessing a large wack on the snare will do it practically every time.

Or singing, clapping, whispering
Or the gentle 'ffrrt' of a nearby flatulent mosquito. Bloody limiters are a nightmare.
 13. Why are people getting so wound up? And by this I mean both the U2-haters and the negativity-haters. Christ guys, at the end of the day it's only a band and a few opinions. Unless you happen to be one of the band members, none of the comments are aimed at you, and unless the law has drastically changed in the last 30 minutes, you don't have to listen to the music. As at least one of our members will testify, far far worse things could be happening in your world right now and this is all, when it comes down to it, pointless. Come on people, calm down eh?
 14. Whatever you may think of U2 (and yes, they are great songwriters if you like their songs), I think NJE is exactly right with:
expensive gear and good sound engineering does not make good musicians/bands
This may or may not be the case for Bonio and his mates, but is definitely true of many a band or artist. The converse can also often be the case. How many utterly brilliant bands/musicians have you seen playing cheap gear? Loads.
 15. The best P bass I've ever laid hands on is OldGit's 5-string Shuker a glorious piece of kit.
 16. OK, it's gone. Blimey, that was quick.

 18. Right, here's the background... I indirectly 'won' this unit in the raffle at a national Bassbash -- what actually happened was that the guy who won it said he'd never use it and did I want it, I said yes please. It's a prototype made by our very own Alien, and like all his kit it is beautifully made. However, I've not used it since then and probably won't, and it's criminal to have something so cool gathering dust. Like the title says, it's a prototype 'Flip Double Looper'... it appears to be a pair of independent switchable FX loops with a third switch allowing you to change the order of the loops if you want, i.e. bass->loop1->loop2->out or bass->loop2->loop1->out. Hence the 12-21 name. I think I've got that right, perhaps Alien might be able to shed some light..? It works off a 9v power supply only, there is no battery provision. Three switches, lots of red & green LEDs. Anyway... like I said, I'm not using it and so I think somebody should. Having got it for free, I don't want to take any money for it, so it is up for grabs. The first person to reply gets it, BUT THERE ARE CONDITIONS.

It's got to be USED -- please, don't ask for it unless you're going to put it into action. It's too good to be a paperweight.
You are expressly forbidden from taking it and then immediately putting it up for sale to make a quick buck.
You must send me a cheque for at least £15 made payable to 'Alzheimers Society' -- this was the beneficiary of the Bash at which I 'won' it and is a cause very close to my heart, so more than 15 quid, while not mandatory, would be gratefully received.
I'll pay the postage. You can repay it by buying me a beer some time This is the bargain of the century and will allow you to feel good about yourself whilst also netting you a tremendously useful and cool addition to your pedalboard.
 19. Bossa or Sadowsky? Some great stuff on there. Superstition, oh man, all these years on and it's still brilliant.
 20. After watching that Stevie Wonder vid, got to be Nate Watts
 21.
This one: Not exactly a copy though.
Gorgeous. Damn, I even like the colour
 22. U2 were truly great years ago when they were young and hungry, but now they're just fat old men, metaphorically at least, and they don't need to try any more. And it shows.
I've noticed in the past that the sound on Rossy's programme is invariably crap.
Yup, especially the noise coming out of Ross' gob...
He did explain on the guitar thing that was on BBC4 a while back. I think its a bank of procesors that try and make him sound good. A bit like the singing machine the boy band used on the simpsons. IMO take his delay pedal off him and he'd be f***ed!
23.
Will Lee had found a way to do this - I can´t remember exactly but he tapped the line with both hands, one on the E string and one on the G, starting with the double-stop (root/VII) and sliding down on the E and up on the G string to the respective target notes. It does take some practice but it´s not too difficult really and sounds very nice. Hope this helps!
This is how I do it. Yes it does take some practice, but it must be reasonably easy if I can do it It's worth working at, as it is so much more effective than just doing one of the lines and more impressive than getting a (spit) guitarist to do it.
 24. [sound of jaw hitting floor] Great. Thanks a bunch. Just when I thought I wasn't GASing for anything, you go posting pictures of this UTTERLY STUNNING bass. Any chance of a big & really sharp pic of the body? I want to use it as PC wallpaper.
 25. It's an absolute goldmine..!
