god yes, don't you just [i]hate[/i] it when that happens?

At the moment my sound is based a 50/50 balance of both pickups, with the neck 'tapped'. Slight bass boost on the gtr itself but all other controls flat. Lows and low-mids boosted slightly on the amp, mids cut slightly around the 600Hz mark, slight hi-mid & treble boost. More pronounced boost at 1200Hz. Compression from the Focusrite, but not loads. You only know it's there if you switch it off, if you see what I mean. Result is a fingerstyle tone vaguely similar to Jonas Hellborg's only smoother and less Status-y , it cuts through the mix well and manages to force its way past all them horns the harmonics sing nicely, plus there are good clear slap & bitey snap sounds when I want them, which isn't often. I like it

How about using an A/B loop thing to give you a total hardwired bypass of all the pedals when you're not using them? If you use any of them a lot more than others (limiter?), you could put it outside the loop.

It's intended as a vocal preamp/channel strip, but they are also widely used as studio bass preamps. It's got a simply brilliant compressor and a nice usable eq, and the sound is pure & clean. What comes out is what went in, only louder

Another ramp fan here. I fitted a temporary one to my Status to see how I'd get on with it. That was about 4 years ago now and it's still there so I had one built into my Shuker.

I've tried to like Les, really I have. I had Seas of Cheese for ages, and tried hard to enjoy it. But no. Drives me up the wall. Still, vive le difference eh?

I would say it's pretty much the ones you say you're using... octaver, compressor, chorus and distortion. A good synth pedal is a worthy addition. It'd be my one of the four, as my compression is in the rack.

The first two that spring to mind are Phil Lynott using a phaser on Lizzy's 'Dancing In The Moonlight' and Anthony Jackson's classic flanged bass part on the O'Jays tune '(Working For) The Love Of Money'.

For me it's bass -> pedals -> amp, with the compressor sitting in the amp's FX loop.

I have the SFX Monkey too, it's splendid. Not a terribly bright sound though, I agree.

+1 for the Qverb, marvellous piece of kit. The chorus in particular is one of the most adjustable & versatile I've ever used. I also recommend the Zoom RFX2000, although it's more of a recording tool as you can only use 1 effect at a time. Its reverbs are glorious.

I was googling for Small Stone pedal images earlier when I stumbled across [url="http://www.lynx.bc.ca/~jc/pedalsSmallStone.html"]this rather interesting mod[/url]. Anybody seen this before? Or better yet, tried or heard it? I'm thinking of applying it to my Russian Stone. The US circuit board is different to the Russian but it's dead easy to find the caps in question.

I tried one of the Slider straps a few years back, when I was having back problems. It didn't work at all for me. It took the strain off the shoulder, yes... but it changed the playing position completely, forcing the bass further round my body so that my fretting hand was having to reach almost behind my shoulder line. Doc/osteo/chiro/whatever, immediately. And the best of luck to ya.
