1. And as we know, a nice shirt & a trim waistline are what really makes a good bassist.
2. Agreed. He's a lovely bloke -- went to a clinic of his back in 1996, he was great. Unbelievable playing, so good you almost wanted him to be a tosser so you could hate him, but no... he stayed and chatted for ages afterwards, signing stuff and explaining techniques and just talking with people. No arrogance, no ego, just a nice guy.

Parker bass

The guitar version is perfect. If I was a gtrist I'd have one without question. The bass is an ugly bastid though. I wish it looked like Steve Swallow's prototype.
4. *SHAMELESS PLUG* How about my very nice Crown XTi-1000 power amp, now for the bargain price of 300 quid? I used it with a Focusrite Trakmaster pre-amp... this is actually intended primarily as a vocal recording channel strip, but makes a fabulous bass pre-amp too thanks to its brilliant compressor and clear, transparent tone. Vocal pre-amps like this and the TL Audio stuff are well worth considering if a clean uncoloured tone is your cup o' char.
5. You wish you were rich? Nah you don't. Being me is vastly overrated.
6. Ah yes, such a common scenario... *Adult plays seminal CD from years gone by... Chilli Peppers, Living Colour, whatever* Offspring: "This lot sound just like *insert name of trendy band here*" Adult: "No, more accurately I think you'll find that *trendy band* sound just like this lot." Offspring: "Eh?" Adult: "When this CD was released, you were still a sperm." Offspring: *stunned silence*
7. Aww bugger... what happened to NGE, Al? 'Musical differences', or just one of them fings?
8. Very interesting... local to me too. Hmmm. How often do they gig?
9. It Bites - Dick Nolan Extreme - Pat Badger (that solo in Cupid's Dead, ye gods )
10. Thread will be locked IMMEDIATELY on the first appearance of a jellied eel or pearly king.
11. Bring me a Shuttle Max 12 immediately
12. I really rather like the Zender model. Well, the body shape anyway. The neck inlays are abominable. The 5-string maple Starbass is cool, albeit a tiny bit anaemic-looking. The TM one? Ye gods.
13.
I would like to deaf in the frequency range my wife talks in..........
coffee -> screen Invent a machine that does this, and you'll be a very rich man.
14.
http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk/stock.htm
I am deeply liking the sunburst J at the bottom of the list. 650 quid, oh god I can hear my credit card whispering bad things to me...
15. Not familiar with that 2nd tune, but damned fine choice on the first one Had I remembered to bring my earbuds today (d'oh) I'd be listening to 'Pass The Peas' right now, followed by The Divine Comedy's 'National Express'.
16. Wow, that's a golden oldie... from the days when you could listen to two notes blindfolded and say "yup, that's a Trace..." An oldie but v.goodie. I'd have thought a diehard Mark King fan would snap it up in seconds.
17.
I've seen graphite saddles on guitars. They are self lubricating.
Yes, and I understand they're superb (certainly as far as trem use etc. is concerned). Wonder how they affect sustain & tone?
18. Anybody remember the Trujillo interview in a recent BGMag? He was describing his experiences in the interview process... it was fascinating to see it actually happening on the vid. I'm not a big fan of the band, but it's interesting to watch nonetheless.
At least you put "my opinion" in this time.
I'd have thought it was pretty obvious that what I was saying was just my opinion. It's not like I said "Darryl Jones says..." or "It's a fact that...".
19.
Darryl Jones doesn't agree with you! You can run the Stones down as much as you want, but, as they have pulled in a multi million, world wide audience on tour after tour for over 40 years, makes your description sound a bit like sour grapes, doesn't it!!
Sour grapes? Not a bit of it. My opinion of the Stones doesn't stem from envy at all... it stems from the fact that I think they and their music are utter crap.
20.
Metallica is technically and creatively below his [Trujillo's] abilities
+1, and the same goes for Darryl Jones with the Stones... that bunch of overhyped superannuated pub-rockers don't deserve a bassist of his calibre.
21. First bass was : Wal Pro IIE From : 1986 It cost : £330 Which today is : £686.40 I got a bit of a bargain, I reckon. Actually, my real first bass was my old Höfner Artist 2 which I got from my metalwork teacher for £20 in 1984. Or in other words, £48.60
22. Enjoyed the music, but I didn't think Tal's Marcus-like tone sat particularly well with it. I was neither over- nor under-whelmed with her playing... she did the job, fair enough, but nothing remarkable. There wouldn't be half so much hype surrounding her if she was either a} male, or b} a munter.
23.
Anything endorsed by Nathan East.
Problem with Nathan East, or his choice of kit?

The loops themselves are about 16-18 seconds long. The actual sample lengths are 8 seconds for Amen Brother and 2.5 for The Funky Drummer.
