1. Well I would have said chrome if I hadn't seen that TB pic... the stealth look is really cool, especially with the shiny frets as relief. Go black I reckon. Try to get a black switch too, if you can.
  2. All that bass, and all that voice. Fabulous. It was an object lesson in the tasteful use of V-Bass and vocal loopers. He was like a one-man Ladysmith Black Mambazo at one point... real goosebump stuff.
  3.
To tell the truth, I like the look of Shuker's a lot, but the price from his website put me off getting a quote, for the single cut, it says from £1795, which is quite a bit.
Have you tried getting a quote from anybody else?? The Sei singlecuts start at 2300. Just how much are you expecting to pay for a handbuilt custom instrument?
  4. +1 for what Kiwi said re: the neck. Jon based the neck profile of my bass on the neck of an old Yamaha 5-string I have, which I've always found to be very comfortable. The end result is perfect. Cost-wise, well all I can say is that my bass worked out cheaper than a new Stingray 5. As always, other luthiers are available... there are plenty of them out there, all doing fine work, some of them representing better value for money than others. We are lucky in this country to have so many fine artisans pandering to our whims.
  5. You still haven't said whereabouts you are based...

    eden nemesis?

I've got two of the Nemesis 1x15 cabs and they're great. The weight alone makes them worth having, my back loves me again. The construction doesn't appear to be an issue, they still pump it out really well. Rear panel wise they have Input and Parallel Output connections on both 1/4" jacks and Speakons.
The only thing that I would change is the lack of any control on the HF driver but to be honest I'd leave it on anyway.
+1, it'd be nice to have some attenuation control over the HF, but I guess that's part of the cost- and weight-saving exercise.
  7. Bongo meets novelty dildo.
  8.
I think a ban on cat pics should be implemented, punishable by death.
I reckon BasschatCat might have a thing or two to say about that. Don't upset him or he'll have a dump in your slippers.

  11.
Oh and the P/U Cover...thats 30 pieces of wood....
Great. It's still my least favourite bit by a long way though. Well done for such an impassioned speech, despite the rather unnecessary sideswipes. It's perfectly possible to sing praises without making snide comments, y'know.
  12. Could be worse... I think some people gave up waiting for their new Wals after 3 years and what's the wait for a Fodera these days? I do think Jon needs to start quoting more realistic build times though. Mine was 7 months against a 12-week quote.
  13.
I have a Russian muff which... doesn't suck...
Am I allowed a gratuitous schoolboy snigger at this point? Sorry, it's one of those days.
  14. Dammit, there's never a box of tissues around when you need them, is there..?
  15.
Looks very "reggae" to me, someone in a reggae band might see it and buy it
Only if they are blind or mad or have no taste at all. Or any combination of the above.

    Fret-King Esprit
It's funny that you choose to focus on the Spitfire.
Not really. My point is that the Esprit will appeal to players who would rather give up playing than own an exotic wood custom. Y'know, T-Bird owners and the like.

    Fret-King Esprit

I dare say the Esprit is intended to appeal to the kind of folks who would say your Spitfire is a godawful coffee-table of a bass. Speaking as the owner of a godawful coffee-table myself, I'm not keep on the Esprit either, but then again individual taste is a bizarre thing innit?
  18. Not convinced by the pickup cover, but overall it certainly looks like a v.nice job o' work. What are the woods?
  19. Yup, Wals do fetch silly cash these days. Bought mine in '86, it was 2ndhand then. Now worth approx 3-4 times what I paid for it, judging by recent sales.
  20.
Ah, how to qualify "objectively better"? <snip>
Ladies and gents, the definitive statement on the impossibility of quantifying 'best'. Expressed far better than I ever could have.
  21. Apparently I am 50% Victor Wooten, 25% John Myung, 17% Flea, 8% Pete Wentz (oh puh-LEEze) and 8% Jaco. Rrrrright. Quite how I work out to be 108% of anything is unclear at this time.
  22.
Let just say as a Smith owner/player for the last 5 years I expect to be given the benefit of any doubt over my motives for posting there. I'll PM you with the details.
Me too please. Oh man, you know how much I covet that beautiful fretted 5... oh god, if I could even remotely afford it, I'd take it in a heartbeat...
