1. What's the situation with this? I've made up a couple of loops using samples of some classic old skool stuff ('The Funky Drummer' and 'Amen Brother', to be precise) for my own gratification, but I don't want to share them if it'll cause any problems.
2. Definitely +1 on the ear protection. I will also add, the Hipshot D-Tuner (sorry, 'Bass Extender Key')... still the single most useful addition you can make to a 4-string bass IMHO.
3.
Maybe Bernie could add them to the extras on the GB basses alongside the drum machine
Ah, but only if it doesn't interfere with the tea & coffee making facility.
4. I nearly drove off the road in shock and disgust when I heard the climax of the Top 30 selling Motown singles on Radio 2 last week... all those wonderful classics, Jamerson oozing from the speakers, but have a guess what was the best selling Motown single of all time? Grapevine? Signed Sealed Delivered? Dancing In The Streets? Nope. I Just Called To bastid well Say I Love You. The lamest pile of drivel imaginable. I just don't get Stevie Wonder. How can the man responsible for the genius of I Wish and Superstition also be to blame for that bag o' sheeite..?
5. Nah, if it was in proper Bristle it would have said "gert lush" or "ain't 'er grand?"
6.
I got banned for not liking JaquoXXIXIIIXX's music.
Hah! yes, I referred to him as 'Jacko-4X' once, don't think it went down too well
7. I used to go there a lot, until one day on a 'celebrities who play instruments' thread I casually mentioned that Tony Blair used to play guitar... I was publicly and soundly bollocked for making a political posting. I protested that to say the PM was a guitarist is hardly a controversial political point, and was then bollocked again for a} making another political posting, and b} publicly disagreeing with the führer. So TBH I hardly ever go there now. There is some good informative stuff to be had though.
8.
Cancel the subscription.. Bass Player is better anyways =0P hehe x
Yup, BP is miles better... if you like page after page of adverts, overly longwinded interviews, reviews of kit you're never likely to see (and if you do, it'll be twice the cost shown in the review) and almost no reviews of the kit we do get on this side of the pond... nah thanks, give me BGM any day.
I never understand why everyone has to get on their high-horse over these lists. At the end of the day it's 40 interesting bass lines and I for one as a newbie(ish) to bass playing find it very interesting. I guarantee that if any one of you 'complainers' out there published your own personal top 40 list there would be 100's of bassists out there calling it crap.
Absolutely totally and utterly agreed. The only mistake they made with this 'Top 40' is to give them a ranking. If, as XB26354 suggested above, the list had been an un-numbered 'Essential' list, there would have been little argument. Although there would still be complaints along the lines of "why no Bros songs? Ken was an awesome player, etc etc" because you can't please all the people and so on.
9.
Don't bother getting excited about the DJ5 - it's long gone.
Thank god for that, or my credit card might have started shrieking.
10. Spotted in Trade-It, the south-west area: "bass guitar gold - 4 string right handed exlent condishion"
11. +1 for the socket tester, these are a damn good idea.
A new extension reel is top of my Santa list so hopefully that'll sort it. I'll just add that i'm ALWAYS connected to an RCD as i have a healthy respect for electricity.
Please, beat the beardy to it and buy one NOW, before you play next. The next shock might be a big bastard, and I do NOT want to see your R.I.P. thread on here
12. The alternative would be to decide on your bridge, position it accurately and then get a friendly chippie/luthier to rout out a rebate for it to sit in, thus lowering the saddle height by 3mm or so (or however thick the bridge baseplate is). Obviously this is more work, but worth it I reckon. Seven-fifty! Ye gods, what an utter bargain!
13. Yes, and I believe they own 'J-Bass' as a trademark too. I'm only surprised their hawk-eyed legal vultures haven't swooped in on anyone using 'J' as a descriptive of a Jazz pickup.
14. Yup, he might have done. I saw them live on the telly once though and he was definitely using a Mouradian then.
15. And you'll need a new nut, and a bit of work on the bridge (swapping saddles around etc). A decent luthier should rustle you peanuts for this sort of work.
16.
yeah agree its totally about cutting through. been listening to the early Extreme stuf and particularly the Pornograffitti album, pat uses a warwick on there and you can clearly hear the nasal tone of his warwick cutting through Nuno's guitar, which it needs to do as the guitar is quite over powering
A Warwick, really? Blimey, I'd always assumed it was his Mouradian. Maybe he just kept that for the videos? Our very own joegarcia is another 'semi-skilled monkey on the PA desk'. Only he doesn't make it sound like mud, he makes it (and the rest of the band) sound very very very very VERY good indeed.
17. Back atcha.
18. I had a ganglion cyst on my right wrist a couple of years back. I went to a doctor, who wasn't a c***. He referred me. They checked it. Operated. Bloody good job they did, as it was in danger of encroaching on the major blood vessel in my wrist. This would have caused very serious problems. Seriously, in all honesty, change your playing style or whatever, but I implore you to please please get the lump checked out. I am forever grateful that I did.
19. Oh boy, I had one of these way back in 1986... some bastid nicked it. Gutted. Still the best phaser I've had or heard.
20.
Alternatively, the headstock may prove to be a useful tool to keep a rowdy frontman in check... BIFF! Ow!
Or a pointy headstock could be used as an improvised spear for catching fish, should it become necessary to forage for food from the surrounding countryside.
21. Used to do Oliver's Army in a band many years ago, and I was going to do something simple until I took the time to listen closely to the bassline. Ohhhh, it's wonderful. I just had to copy it... took a while to work it out, but was worth it.
22. And large chunks of western Scotland too
23. Oh, cool Do you play it with a pick, or fingerstyle? Is it even possible to play it fingerstyle? I'd love an 8 or a 10. How about doing a full Review for the, errm, Reviews section?
