2. Oh god oh god oh god... nurse, my pills... I'd give money just to see one, never mind touch it, never mind play it.
although a heavy bass.
God I can imagine. My Pro II four clocks in at 10lbs+, it's like wearing a car.
  3. New one on me! Will check it out later

    Funk

Me too. Schtoopid works PC, no soundcard, websense blocking almost everything, harrumph.
  5. I'm not claiming to be actually harmed, just offended, that's all. We're just disagreeing over his words in exactly the same way as people have been disagreeing over whether metal or jazz is better, with some people taking more offence of comments made than others. Maybe I am being a bit knee-jerk, but I still didn't like it. Happy to knock it on the head now though. Also, I remember seeing the original help-line call thing with the phrase in it about packing up their computer to return it to the shop where they bought it as they're obviously to stupid to own one, and it didn't mention Jaco once
  6. I'd have thought it was obvious. Fusion gets described as paedophilia: that's utter nonsense. As I said earlier, I used to play fusion & would like to do so again, and I have kids, so I personally find it to be offensive nonsense. Am I being so unreasonable? I dare say now I will be told to chill out, get a sense of humour, it's just his way, god you're so sensitive, and blah blah blah. No. EDIT: there y'go, apparently I'm stupid now. Jeez.
  7.
earlier on, I believe jazz-fusion was even referred to as 'kiddy-fiddling'

Erm... wrong Rich. From how I read it, the BBC was trying to describe his level of hatred for the fusion style. Read it in context and you'll see.
I'm wrong?
If it's anything that could be described as "Jazz" or its kiddy-fiddling cousin "Fusion", then I'm setting fire to my face.
Nope, I'm not. Sure he was describing his hatred for the style, but there are ways of doing it and ways of doing it, y'know? How the f*** exactly does fusion become paedophilia? Sorry, but I object.
  8.
Can you do some decent porn shots of your headless wonder, please?

why?
Why not?

  10. My practice rig is Hartke 3500 head (not overly light but hey, it was cheap and sounds good) -> one of my Nemesis 1x15s. The head is 2U cased, so the whole thing fits in my Mondeo boot with ease and I can carry it all in one go with my bass gigbag slung over my shoulder. Takes seconds to set up, and the only people to leave before me at the end are the horn players 'cos they have bugger all to carry
  11.
My advice is to try and demo everything in your budget, get out to your local gigs listen to the bass, and buy what sounds best to you !
Yup, the best advice. Try everything you can lay your hands on and trust your ears. All we can recommend is what we like, which may not be what you like (e.g. I would never recommend an Ashdown to anybody in a million years, unless they were after a big doorstop or something for bazooka target-practice).
  12. The trouble is that youpube has far too many vids of Jaco at the end, when he was mindspanked most of the time, fully in the grip of his bipolar thing and quite obviously past his best. All that facepainting nonsense and so on. If you look far enough, beyond the noise, there are plenty of early examples of him in his prime. Of course there will be folks who still hate his playing and his sound, but that's just personal taste. You don't like Jaco, I don't like Cliff Burton. Simple isn't it? All this nonsense about metallers all being kids or jazzers being snobs or metallers getting all the chicks or jazzers all having beards/berets*, c'mon it's a load of pointless crap. As 4000 said, why can't we just call it all 'music' and have done with this playground bollocks? * earlier on, I believe jazz-fusion was even referred to as 'kiddy-fiddling'; I used to be in a fusion band and would gladly do so again, and I also have kids... consequently I find this description fcking outrageous and far from playground or humorous. I don't think I'm being over sensitive. Take it back immediately.
  13.
Don't you mean this being Basschat, it starts as a reasoned discussion and someone violently disagrees. It escalates into a "My knob's bigger than your knob" contest, then tBBC comes along and blows everyone into the weeds with his almost supernaturally scatalogical prose. Several people are very offended by his comments. Someone suggests 'ignoring' offensive posts. It then evolves into a slagging of the moderators because they cautioned someone on another thread for a comment that was far less scurrilous. A concerned member drags it back to the original topic, but it's too late. Savage recriminations ensue. Then someone else gets the serious ar$e, some other geezers start yelling '"Calm down, he's not worth it", Bilbo tips up and lays some calming jazz vibes on us, Mrs Tinman posts something very sweet. The Mods cop on and urge restraint, it settles down, then someone starts it up again, then it all goes quiet till the next time.
But you forgot to add: Someone mentions how 'this sort of sh*t never happens on Finnbass...'
  14. Sure, there's a lot of wisdom and great experience here, but what it comes down to is this:
You have to buy something you like the sound of - not what we recommend cos our sound may not be your sound.
Absolutely positively and definitely +1. Try everything you can find within your budget, and some stuff just over too. It's your sound, you've got to be happy with it. Use the advice here as a solid basis but not as total must-be-obeyed gospel. In the end, trust your ears. Good luck and have fun searching!
  15. Crown XTi1000, a big silver power amp with lots of features and lights and what not. And it's fuppin' loud. 500w per side into 4ohms, or up to 1400w in bridge mono. Lots of clever programs, including a tunable crossover allowing you to bi-amp directly from the amp, and loads of other stuff I've never used. Rackmount, 2U high, roughly 20lbs weight. It's spent its life in my rack, so apart from tiny bits of rack rash it's unmarked. Only gigged a handful of times, and I'm only selling because I've picked up an SWR SM900 and so I don't need a separate power amp any more. This really is a lovely piece of kit. Pick a new one up off eBay for around 500 quid plus p+p (yes, I know you can get them cheap from the US, but by the time you've added VAT and duty they ain't so cheap any more)... or alternatively buy this one for £275 plus shipping. A nearly new kilowatt for 275 quid, c'mon it's a bargain. Tell Santa.
  16.
Completely agree with you. Man, that was... pathetic. Really. My first thought was that was one of those overdubbed fake "shred" videos but apparently it was real. I can see why some people can´t get into Jaco but I have no idea why anyone would dig Cliff Burton.
Absolutely +1. I know it's individual taste and all that, but whenever I see vids of Cliff Burton solos I can't help wondering what all the fuss is about and why Metallica fans still seem to think he's so irreplaceable. BTW, I'm something of a jazzer (but I do like some metal too... see, you can do both), and the only thing I 'fear' about metal is being accidentally caught in the eye by a pointy headstock.
  17. I think it's a good idea, with small inexpensive items -- badges, stickers, that sort of thing.
  18. Aye. I had Nemesis 2x10 and 1x15 cabs up until a while ago, when I swapped the 2x10 for another 1x15. The sound of the two 1x15s is loads better. 2x10+1x15 is not the be all and end all. It's definitely worth checking out other speaker configs (considered 12s at all?).
  19.
And dont forget anyone else's idea of a great sound may not be the same as yours - so do try before you buy if at all possible. Go to your local gigs and see what you like the sound of.

Any opinions on... Ashdown?
Yes. Bleucchhh.
  20.
The much maligned triangle is rather like a bass in that the general public think its an easy instrument to play, and at some levels it can be, but to play it well takes a huge amount of skill. Anyway I have an early 60's Fender Imprecision triangle for sale or exchange. It's got some relicing and the beater and string have been replaced by Gotoh upgrades. Oh and teh bell part was replaced in the 90's with a JV Squier part but te label stiill says Fender .. PM me if you are interested ...
Fancy a trade for my Wal Mach I triangle? Dangles from a piece of finest plaited Venezuelan goat string, with the bell inlaid with Malaysian gnatwood and MOP detailing. PM me if you're interested. Perhaps we can work your Status Graphite cowbell into the deal too?
  21. Looks cool as. Go for it, I reckon. I've tried two DJ5s (P-T-P's, and another one at a show), and they are pretty much the only bass giving me serious GAS now. Wonderful, wonderful instrument.
  22.
good luck with it d-basser. certainly seems a steal for what it is
That's the only thing that worries me about it... 750 quid for such a bass seems a bit too "shift it as quickly as possible". Of course, if it is completely kosher, then I take it all back.
  23.
I'm too shy/responsible
BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HAAAAAAAAAAA *collapses in protracted fit of uncontrollable mirth*
  24.
7 string guitars, I remember them *shudders*
Don't worry, it's OK to like seven string guitars. Jazzers were using them decades before the poodlehair crowd got their hands on them.
  25.
Lovely bass Reuel - glad to see it's finally arrived safely.
+ the 1. Here endeth the story, in a happy way. Musky, I LOVE your avatar
