1. OK, it's gone. Blimey, that was quick.

  3. Right, here's the background... I indirectly 'won' this unit in the raffle at a national Bassbash -- what actually happened was that the guy who won it said he'd never use it and did I want it, I said yes please. It's a prototype made by our very own Alien, and like all his kit it is beautifully made. However, I've not used it since then and probably won't, and it's criminal to have something so cool gathering dust. Like the title says, it's a prototype 'Flip Double Looper'... it appears to be a pair of independent switchable FX loops with a third switch allowing you to change the order of the loops if you want, i.e. bass->loop1->loop2->out or bass->loop2->loop1->out. Hence the 12-21 name. I think I've got that right, perhaps Alien might be able to shed some light..? It works off a 9v power supply only, there is no battery provision. Three switches, lots of red & green LEDs. Anyway... like I said, I'm not using it and so I think somebody should. Having got it for free, I don't want to take any money for it, so it is up for grabs. The first person to reply gets it, BUT THERE ARE CONDITIONS.

It's got to be USED -- please, don't ask for it unless you're going to put it into action. It's too good to be a paperweight.
You are expressly forbidden from taking it and then immediately putting it up for sale to make a quick buck.
You must send me a cheque for at least £15 made payable to 'Alzheimers Society' -- this was the beneficiary of the Bash at which I 'won' it and is a cause very close to my heart, so more than 15 quid, while not mandatory, would be gratefully received.
I'll pay the postage. You can repay it by buying me a beer some time This is the bargain of the century and will allow you to feel good about yourself whilst also netting you a tremendously useful and cool addition to your pedalboard.
  4. Bossa or Sadowsky? Some great stuff on there. Superstition, oh man, all these years on and it's still brilliant.
  5. After watching that Stevie Wonder vid, got to be Nate Watts
  6.
This one: Not exactly a copy though.
Gorgeous. Damn, I even like the colour
  7. U2 were truly great years ago when they were young and hungry, but now they're just fat old men, metaphorically at least, and they don't need to try any more. And it shows.
I've noticed in the past that the sound on Rossy's programme is invariably crap.
Yup, especially the noise coming out of Ross' gob...
He did explain on the guitar thing that was on BBC4 a while back. I think its a bank of procesors that try and make him sound good. A bit like the singing machine the boy band used on the simpsons. IMO take his delay pedal off him and he'd be f***ed!
8.
Will Lee had found a way to do this - I can´t remember exactly but he tapped the line with both hands, one on the E string and one on the G, starting with the double-stop (root/VII) and sliding down on the E and up on the G string to the respective target notes. It does take some practice but it´s not too difficult really and sounds very nice. Hope this helps!
This is how I do it. Yes it does take some practice, but it must be reasonably easy if I can do it It's worth working at, as it is so much more effective than just doing one of the lines and more impressive than getting a (spit) guitarist to do it.
  9. [sound of jaw hitting floor] Great. Thanks a bunch. Just when I thought I wasn't GASing for anything, you go posting pictures of this UTTERLY STUNNING bass. Any chance of a big & really sharp pic of the body? I want to use it as PC wallpaper.
  10. It's an absolute goldmine..!
  11. god yes, don't you just hate it when that happens?
  12. At the moment my sound is based a 50/50 balance of both pickups, with the neck 'tapped'. Slight bass boost on the gtr itself but all other controls flat. Lows and low-mids boosted slightly on the amp, mids cut slightly around the 600Hz mark, slight hi-mid & treble boost. More pronounced boost at 1200Hz. Compression from the Focusrite, but not loads. You only know it's there if you switch it off, if you see what I mean. Result is a fingerstyle tone vaguely similar to Jonas Hellborg's only smoother and less Status-y , it cuts through the mix well and manages to force its way past all them horns the harmonics sing nicely, plus there are good clear slap & bitey snap sounds when I want them, which isn't often. I like it
  13.
I love sizzle.
Mmmmm... bacon... *drool* [/hsimpson]
Marcus Miller is a Gay-Hole.
I reckon his wife might disagree with you there
  14. That's a shame Joe, you need more FX pedals
  15.
?? I used one of those Zooms for about 8 years and it was never noticeably noisy. Are you sure you are all using it properly?
Nope, I'm too thick to use an FX pedal.
  16. I've got one of those Zooms too. They're noisy buggers all right. I said they're NOISY. No, NOISY. Ahem. How about using an A/B loop thing to give you a total hardwired bypass of all the pedals when you're not using them? If you use any of them a lot more than others (limiter?), you could put it outside the loop.
  17.
But a stupid wing, at that. Harrier jump jet? Penguin?
'81 Ford Capri offside front..? EDIT: actually, a truly stupid wing would be a rear one off a '59 Caddy Coupe de Ville...

Consider this Focusrite Trakmaster Platinum..? It's intended as a vocal preamp/channel strip, but they are also widely used as studio bass preamps. It's got a simply brilliant compressor and a nice usable eq, and the sound is pure & clean. What comes out is what went in, only louder
  19. Another ramp fan here. I fitted a temporary one to my Status to see how I'd get on with it. That was about 4 years ago now and it's still there so I had one built into my Shuker.
  20. I've tried to like Les, really I have. I had Seas of Cheese for ages, and tried hard to enjoy it. But no. Drives me up the wall. Still, vive le difference eh?
  21.
..... thoughts/comments?....
Looks kinda cool. A definite retro vibe, well much more so than the original anyway. How about a bridge ashtray too..?
  22.
If it was me I wouldn't even consider going back there a third time.
I reckon it's +1 for that unless you really need the gig. He's rodgered you twice, and is therefore perfectly capable of doing it a third time. Bollox to him. And spread the word.
  23. I always knew this was going to be a stunner. Was I wrong? Nah. Beautiful. The view of the back is worth the admission price on its own. Mate, welcome to the Shuker Owners' Club Maple Neck Chapter SOUND SAMPLES. NOW. Please.
  24. I would say it's pretty much the ones you say you're using... octaver, compressor, chorus and distortion. A good synth pedal is a worthy addition. It'd be my one of the four, as my compression is in the rack.
  25. Thanks for that Nick. After listening to some of the sound samples, I'm going to have a bash at the Maillet vibe mod, and also perhaps the rotary colour control mod on the 'Electronics For Guitarists' page. Will let you know how I get on..!
