1. Our English sockets don't make a blind bit of difference in cases like these, unfortunately... no amount of fused plugs or switches will stop an earth fault. Doesn't matter if the sockets are Libyan, Greek, English, Mongolian or Vietnamese, we're all in the same boat.
 2. RCDs have been a permanent fixture on my kit for donkey's years now, and this is why. Thank god you survived it mate, history is littered with people who didn't. Good info here.
 3.
Me too, and don't you dare put my leads away either!!
+1 for 3 winds, and yes I am a bit particular about my leads too... GOT to be curled up using the cable's natural twist. If I see anyone winding a lead round their elbow, I get very uneasy. That Bassday pic is a great example of how not to do everything on a Fender headstock
 4.
I hope the surprise is an inlay of your face spanning from the 9th to the 15th fret
I hope it's M U S T A N G S A L L Y inlaid in purple LEDs along the fingerboard Well if nothing else Dood, this thread has given your new bass a name... whether you like it or not
 5. Also...
Obviously over time , and considering it's popularity , bass guitars became known as 'basses'. It's slang. If you say to me 'I play bass' I can reply 'Bass what? Bass trombone , bass clarinet? What?
Absolutely +1. It's a bass guitar, folks. Hyphenate it if you want, do anything with it, but it's not just called a 'bass'. That's just our friendly colloquial name for it
 6. Have to say I agree. Obviously it's yours to do with as you wish, but if you job that in for a Warwick then you're
 7. Friday night at the Point in Cardiff. Good crowd, not full to busting but more than enough to make it worthwhile. Excellent support from "Ponty's ugliest band", fabbo skameisters Tattsyrup... took me right back to my yoof. Listening to 'Ghost Town', it was strange to reflect on how topical it is all over again! The FOH sound was pretty good apparently, the in-house engineer certainly knows his onions. Sound on stage wasn't great though. Ah well. The new Jackson tunes went down an absolute storm, and are a blast to play. Alarmingly, I completely blanked in the last tune...just going into the 1st bridge, I suddenly realised that I had completely forgotten how it went... fumbled around for a couple of bars until I reached a bit I could remember. Then the 2nd bridge came along and nope, still can't remember it. Embarrassed? You have no idea... Of course, I can do it now...
 8. A couple of years ago we played a music fest on the same bill as, ahem, a well-known Eurovision-winning guy-girl quartet who are not called Buck's Fizz. The girls were really nice, chatty, friendly, watched some of our set and complimented us afterwards. The blokes however were a different kettle of fish... didn't say a word to us all night, appeared to go out of their way to avoid even looking in our general direction. Miserable pair of feckers. So far up themselves, they must need torches. And having heard their soundcheck, I know just how much is on their backing tape... let's just say it's an awful lot more than just a drum track...
 9. Definitely deep into 'phwoarr' territory, that. Me likey.
 10. It might be the tight string spacing (16.5mm, yuck) that's making the body look big.
 11. How dare you, I am a fishmonger with kids to support etc etc etc
 12.
Woody....
Could be either a} a character in Cheers b} a cartoon woodpecker c} a toy cowboy d} a film director who thinks he's a lot funnier than he actually is e} one of these
 13. "Oh What a night (Late December back in '63)", yup that's on our to-do list somewhere too I'd love to get some Tower Of Power stuff in the set, but it's nowhere near a} cheesy or b} well-known enough.
 14. Cool, can only be a good thing. We're playing The Point tomorrow night, it's a great venue but they've got real neighbour problems... I hope this new place fares a bit better.
Michelle Shocked, Dreadzone .... Not really heard of any of them before.
What?? Go to the bottom of the class
 15. I'd give my right nut to play in a band like this. LOVE that groove thang. But Bristol is a weeeeeee bit too much of a commute methinks
 16.
I don't know why, but I alway cringe when the Booker T & the MGs Soul Limbo is referred to as the cricket theme. Like hearing The William Tell Overture referred to as "the Lone Ranger Theme"
Fair enough... but if you say to most people "oh we do Booker T & the MG's 'Soul Limbo'", they'll go "Nah, don't know it mate". But if you tell them "oh we do that tune off the cricket on telly", they'll go "ah right, that calypsoey one, do do-do do-dooo...". Sad fact. Had a great rehearsal last night, putting the final polish on our latest slab o' cheese... a medley of "I Want You Back" and "ABC". Bassist's dream, those two. Love it The next chunk of edam on our to-do list is "Disco Inferno" apparently...
 17. We do Walking On Sunshine too, it's a cracker... first verse is slow with just guitar and vocal, the punters are always singing along by the time it gets to the first "whoa-ohh" bit, then the band launches in and they go mental. And just for a laugh, we've got the cricket theme 'Soul Limbo' in the middle. And we do Delilah too. Cheese rools!
 18.
Once you hit a certain price point, you're going to be getting a really good quality instrument. I'm not sure how much better off you'll be by spending another £1k. Having said that, I've never tried some of these [s]sw***y[/s] posh expensive basses that some of you lucky lot have in your collections, so I might be talking rubbish.
I'm pretty sure that once you hit a certain price point, the extra thousands are simply buying further aesthetic qualities rather than enhancing the sound. The price point seems to depend on the individual maker... Alembic's appears to be about 10 grand
 19.
Funnily enough I write the first note next to each song.
Exactly what I do! Had brainfade once too often for comfort
 20.
personally, as much as i can spare to spend at the time of purchase -Jake
+1
 21.
Bad I don't move very much when playing I look like a moody git when playing
Oh yes, me too! I forgot those ones
Worst bits: Walking Soloing
Oh yes etc.
 22.
He strikes me as one of these musician's musicians whose "stardom" only exist in guitar magazines, on forums and on their own websites.
Well, it's all relative. After all, people like Slags Aloud and the Spice Gurners are international superstars instantly recognisable by millions. Unfortunately. I can well believe that Mr.Berlin's arrogance extends into real life too though.... sad to say, but it's not surprising that he was rude to you.
 23.
Edit: and you moderate the theory forum???
Yeah, well Jeff Berlin was busy.
 24. Yay Nice to see you, to see you, nice
 25. Woohoo ^_^ Blessed with a great ear -- if I listen to something once, I can usually pick it up Good sense of rhythm Never, ever get stage fright or nerves of any sort Can sing fairly well too, even while playing fairly complicated stuff (if I practice at it!) Reasonably versatile -- can slap/use a pick/play fretless Happy to sit in the pocket all day, driving a groove and not worrying about solos Nice kit D'oh Can't read a note, although I can follow a chart My theory sucks -- I couldn't spot a Phrygian dominant scale if it bit me on the arse Not got the fastest fingers in the world Very self-critical Can't solo to save my life (apart from maybe slap) Want more nice kit My hands are gradually succumbing to arthritis
