  1. The Spector has been extensively modified cosmetically and is wired with coil taps. The Sire has been modified with lightweight tuners and a top-loading bridge. All three are strung with Elixirs -- nickels on the fives and steels on the Q4.
  2. My 3 main working basses now are: Shuker custom 5-string Spector Q4 4-string Sire V7 5-string Yes of course I have others but these 3 get all the gig action.
  3. Generally I'm not a massive fan of pointy basses, but there's something about the Explorer shape that I really like. I would love an Aria ZZB.
  4. Free Fallin' - Tom Petty
  5. Why? - The Specials
  6. Coconut - Nilsson
  7. This 8-string bridge/tailpiece is a thing of beauty.
  8. Updated list as at 28/07.
  9. It usually seems to work for us too. Mind you, we do Bruno's live version with all the James Brown snippets in the middle, and Cold Sweat sometimes gets confused looks from some of the younger audience members.
  10. Killed By Death - Mötörhëäd
  11. It works a treat in our set, but then again we are a ska band...
  12. My favourite story about 10cc is one that Graham Gouldman told to Mo Foster for his book. They were just starting out, and were playing in a crappy social club one night. The MC gets up to introduce them: "Right, well here's a new young band, not my cup of tea quite frankly but anyway... put yer hands together for EYE-OCK!"
  13. The latest Coke TV ad uses a new version of Willie Dixon's "I Just Want To Make Love To You" recorded by Joséphine de la Baume. It is so bad, it makes me wish I hadn't bothered cleaning my ears out. It's straight in at #2 with a bullet on my 'Things That Make Me Scramble For The TV Mute Button' list (the #1 spot is permanently occupied by the Marc Jacobs 'Daisydaisydaisydaisy' advert).

I don't know why they do it. I suppose it could be a negative reinforcement thing - I would rant at the telly whenever that Tui ad came on with the feckless, insipid, breathy cod-swing version of Chaka Khan's glorious "Ain't Nobody", but the upshot of my ire is that I will never book a holiday with Tui. Ever. But then it was fairly unlikely I would have done before they pushed my blood pressure up several notches...

  14. Clocks - Coldplay
  15. Mickey - Toni Basil
  16. Lager Than Life - Backstreet Boys
  17. We had two gigs yesterday, a teatime 45 minute slot at a mini-festival in Swindon followed by a 2x1hr gig in Bradford on Avon. The Swindon gig was outstanding for me, for all the wrong reasons… for the first time in nearly 40 years of gigging, I didn’t get to the venue in time. I set off 2 hours before stage time on a journey that should have taken an hour… thanks to a road closure which saw me sat immobile on a dual carriageway for an hour and crawling for the rest, the trip took me 2.5 hours. Luckily one of our guitarists plays bass and deps for me on gig dates I can’t make, he was able to borrow a bass and the show went on. I eventually arrived 3 songs before the end. They sounded great 😄 Thankfully , the later Bradford gig was an absolute belter.
  18. There's only three things on my GAS list, none of which I'm in a position to do much about at the moment. Wal Mk2/3 fretted 5-string 1965 Fender Jazz, ideally CAR with matching headstock the new Trace Elliot TE-1200 head
  19. Well I like it. More details please?
  20. I've noticed my left ear was a bit muffled of late, so all this week I've been popping a few drops of Otex in each evening in an attempt to soften it all up... last evening I gave it a good flush out with some hot water, and now not only can I hear in glorious stereo again, but I've got the makings of a good sized candle. zzzzzzzbx3o48f1K6x6.gif.b2b3fc9149a80279e6c0387c2182a48e.gif

I use a wax removal tool purchased from eBay for a couple of quid. It’s the one with the silicone spiral heads, and does the job pretty well. Got fed up of paying £60 for a visit to a

specialist, after my NHS surgery stopped offering the service.

( Will probably still go for an occasional professional de-wax, but less often than previously needed.)

I tried one of those spiral cleaners once when my ear felt a little blocked. Made it even worse. The Otex kit with the little bulb thingy did the job a week later.

  21. Oh boy, I would sell a kidney to get the XLR kit for my Pro 2E. What a lovely instrument.
  22. My Shuker regularly used to get gigged, everywhere (and thanks to a recent renaissance, will be again from now on). It's got one or two dings, but they're made to be played. If it wasn't for its weight and the fact that I've got other basses that do the job, I'd take my museum-piece Wal out too.
  23. People with less conventional lifestyles have enough to deal with without being called 'freaks' too. Knock it off.
  24. Classic Trace Elliot SMX gear. I adore everything about it except the weight.
