  2. Well, I've always found the bottom end of the neck too chunky -- I have silly stumpy little fingers, so a more Jazz-like neck suits me down to the ground. The only P-style bass I've ever enjoyed playing is Si Oldgit's gorgeous Shuker P-5... other than that, they simply aren't my cup of Lapsang. Still, horses for courses eh? Vive la difference!
  3. I've always thought the Kingbass (or rather, MK's Kingbass sound) to be very thin and gutless. Bring back the Jaydees, or better still, the GBs..!

There's a bit of a difference between that and "8-12 hours a day, 5/6 days a week". There's really no need for those sort of hours at the age of 16, and if someone doesn't want to work that sort of schedule, it doesn't make them lazy or idle. I certainly don't consider myself to be any sort of slacker.

  9. I had one of those expensive looking Wolf/Mazeti 6-string fretless basses for a while. It played really well (when sitting down, anyway) and sounded superb. Terrible neck-dive though, very very neck heavy.

  13. I recently got hold of an old TE dual comp pedal too, and it's just as good as I remember it being on my old SMX head. Marvellous thing.     Well, the Akai works for me simply because: a} I've already got one, and b} I can't be arsed to flog it and get a load of separates I don't use a synth effect all that often anyway, so for my limited needs it's just fine. Just out of interest, which individual stomps do you use to get your synth sounds Joe? Don't worry, you don't have to give away any closely guarded secrets

Handling 250W RMS Frequency Response 38hz - 18khz ±2dB Sensitivity 100dB SPL@1W1M Impedance 8ohms Dimensions 24.75"w x 17.25"h x 16.25"d Weight 32 LBS Absolutely brilliant VFM if you ask me... very loud and sounds great (not tons of ultra low-end due to its small dimensions, it'd never make a dub reggae cab, but the small-and-light-ness is why I bought it, so I don't care!). I also have the [b]Nemesis NSP210[/b] 2x10" (again, plus horn) cab -- again it's very dinky and lightweight, obviously being 10s it's a lot punchier and less warm than the 115. Handling 300W RMS Frequency Response 35hz - 18khz ±2dB Sensitivity 102dB SPL@1W1M Impedance 4 or 8ohms Dimensions 24.75"w x 16.25"h x 16.25"d Weight 47 LBS I'd take some of those figures with a pinch of salt... it's definitely not 15lbs heavier than the 115 for a start, their weights are very close. Like the 115 it's very loud for its size... check the sensitivity figures. The 115 and 210 do go very well together, although on reflection I wish I'd tried a pair of the 115 cabs out too... I love these cabs, especially the 115 (as you can probably tell!), the only problem with them is that the HF horn has no attenuator and can be very harsh. I have disabled the horn on the 210 cab, but it is possible to make an adjustment to reduce its output somewhat. That notwithstanding, I think they're brilliant.... for my money, far and away the best in their price range. And here they are together (the basses give an idea of scale)...

At the moment my signal chain is simply: [i]Bass --> Trace Elliot dual compressor --> Boss volume pedal (tuner in sidechain) --> Amp[/i] although at some point the Deep Impact will probably work its way in (for the octaver settings if nothing else). I'm guessing it'd be best placed before the compressor to keep the playing dynamics..?

This is my custom Shuker J5... body is burl maple on English white ash in satin 'baccy sunburst, neck is maple/wenge/flamed maple with birdseye maple fingerboard & orange side LEDs, pickups are EMG-40TWs with 'coil taps' & Jon Shuker's superb 3-band EQ.
