  4. We had two gigs yesterday, a teatime 45 minute slot at a mini-festival in Swindon followed by a 2x1hr gig in Bradford on Avon. The Swindon gig was outstanding for me, for all the wrong reasons… for the first time in nearly 40 years of gigging, I didn’t get to the venue in time. I set off 2 hours before stage time on a journey that should have taken an hour… thanks to a road closure which saw me sat immobile on a dual carriageway for an hour and crawling for the rest, the trip took me 2.5 hours. Luckily one of our guitarists plays bass and deps for me on gig dates I can’t make, he was able to borrow a bass and the show went on. I eventually arrived 3 songs before the end. They sounded great 😄 Thankfully , the later Bradford gig was an absolute belter.
  5. There's only three things on my GAS list, none of which I'm in a position to do much about at the moment. Wal Mk2/3 fretted 5-string 1965 Fender Jazz, ideally CAR with matching headstock the new Trace Elliot TE-1200 head
  6. Well I like it. More details please?
  7. I've noticed my left ear was a bit muffled of late, so all this week I've been popping a few drops of Otex in each evening in an attempt to soften it all up... last evening I gave it a good flush out with some hot water, and now not only can I hear in glorious stereo again, but I've got the makings of a good sized candle. zzzzzzzbx3o48f1K6x6.gif.b2b3fc9149a80279e6c0387c2182a48e.gif

I use a wax removal tool purchased from eBay for a couple of quid. It’s the one with the silicone spiral heads, and does the job pretty well. Got fed up of paying £60 for a visit to a

specialist, after my NHS surgery stopped offering the service.

( Will probably still go for an occasional professional de-wax, but less often than previously needed.)

I tried one of those spiral cleaners once when my ear felt a little blocked. Made it even worse. The Otex kit with the little bulb thingy did the job a week later.

  8. Oh boy, I would sell a kidney to get the XLR kit for my Pro 2E. What a lovely instrument.
  9. My Shuker regularly used to get gigged, everywhere (and thanks to a recent renaissance, will be again from now on). It's got one or two dings, but they're made to be played. If it wasn't for its weight and the fact that I've got other basses that do the job, I'd take my museum-piece Wal out too.
  10. People with less conventional lifestyles have enough to deal with without being called 'freaks' too. Knock it off.
  11. Classic Trace Elliot SMX gear. I adore everything about it except the weight.
  12. Hence it being a dream only.
  13. There are several I'd love to see that will unfortunately never happen outside the realm of dreams -- Marillion with 'Clutching At Straws', It Bites 'Once Around The World', Queensrÿche 'Empire', etc.

Isn't it 40 degrees plus on parts of the continent at the moment? I know which I would prefer.

I just want a break in the rain. The air show was a washout last weekend, I've got two outdoor events to go to on Saturday and oh look, surprise fvcking surprise, it's going to be hammering down. Again.

I've been caught out a couple of times when walking the dogs but at least you can get out. I can't bear it when it gets above 25 - really hot days are the same as wet ones - you can't go out!!

  22. These bloody celebrity gardeners are all liars. I saw one a while back advising us that horse manure would make strawberries tastier and more juicy. In reality, it does nothing to improve them at all.
I'm going back to double cream and I'd advise everyone else to do likewise.

  23. The best one I ever had was during a gig with my old jazz-fusion trio at a jazz venue in Bristol. We had just finished a John Scofield tune and were about to launch into another 10-minute instrumental epic when this I've-had-one-alcopop-too-many student-type came up to me. "Do you do Iron Man by Black Sabbath?" he asked. I looked at him incredulously. "Do we sound like the sort of band that does Iron Man by Black Sabbath?" I replied with a laugh. We launched into the aforementioned instrumental epic, at the end of which there he was again. "Do you know Iron Man by Black Sabbath?" he asked. "No we bloody don't", I replied somewhat testily. I wandered away from him to try to signal that the exchange was definitely ended and we dived into another lengthy widdle. At the end, yup, there he was again. "Why won't you play Iron Man?" he demanded. I gave him my very best Paddington Bear Hard Stare. "Oh come on, you must know it!" he said. "Mate," I said in a firm this-conversation-is-over tone, "just f*** off, ok?". Thankfully, he got the message and did in fact f*** off. I'm pretty sure he was only doing it for a laugh anyway. Perhaps his pathetic mates put him up to it. (I wouldn't normally tell a punter to sex-&-travel, but this gimboid was seriously getting on my toot.)
  24. Experimental ramp fitted to the Spector. A piece of scrap laminate floor cut to size and sprayed with about a dozen coats of rattle can black and lacquer, and then carpet-taped in place. I'll see how it goes.

First gig with the ramp last night, love it. Definitely staying, albeit in a different form... My planted thumb wore right through all those coats of lacquer and paint  some 5mm acrylic sheet is now in the post.
