  1. Just scored a Spector Q4 on eBay for £102.

    Result.

I don't know yet -- picking it up today.

@Marc S to answer your question, yes it sounds faaaar more expensive than 102 quid. Really superb tone... smooth lows and crisp glassy highs, and lots of power. I still can't believe my luck, a Spector for the price of an Encore.

      Nice @Rich

They do look good, as I said.

Its great when something like this happens. Result indeed

  2. Anthony Jackson plays sitting down, and always has. I know it's not very rock'n'roll, but if it's good enough for him... I bet that shower will feel like absolutely the best thing ever. Fantastic news all round.
  3. Another vote for John Giblin here.
  4. Looking back through the last four pages, I can only conclude that when you said "discuss" what you actually meant was "agree with me or else".
  5. We only need one Nick Beggs thread really.
  6. Watching the mighty James Taylor Quartet, in Burnham-on-Sea of all places. Oh my word ❤

Wahey, I was at that gig too! What an odd place for them to play, but a storming set!

      Love JTQ.
I think the best time I saw them was at the Cardiff music festival about 20 years ago. They played during a thunder storm. Thunder, lightning, torrential rain and Acid Jazz. It was awesome.

  7. That dude Mick Karn was busy being extraordinary.
  8. Chris bought my old Comfort Strapp, and made a very generous donation to a charity close to my heart. Thanks mate, much appreciated.
  9. This is a proper veteran, it's been round the block many, many times. I've probably had it for 20 years or more and, well, it sort of shows. Scruffy as heck, but it still works. It's the Long (38"-45", 96-114cm) version; the button holes were enlarged to take Schaller straplocks (see pic) and, having heard a few horror stories about the plastic buckles failing, I reinforced all the buckles with cable ties (also see pic). They'd do as an emergency measure long enough to stop your bass from hitting the floor. So yeah, it's v.scruffy, but it would do as a spare. Bass Direct want £36 for a new one of these, this is yours for just a couple of quid for postage. Plus if possible, please drop a fiver into a charity box some time -- ideally an Alzheimers/dementia charity, but I'll leave the choice to you.
  10. Bought James' Minotaur strap, arrived quickly and was in better condition than he'd described. Proper bargain, many thanks James. You're a gent.

  12. Those were mine and, as you say, god alone knows how that happened. It's not like I've ever driven them particularly hard. They'd be well worth having a crack at for anyone who's got the ability and time.
  13. I used to be a big fan, but... he and I had a falling out over a comment he made on Farcebook. As a result he unfriended me and then blocked me... the FB equivalent of picking up his bat & ball and stomping off home. Nige (xilddx of this parish) was involved and got the same treatment from him. I still love his music, but him? not so much. TL;DR - nope.
  14. Hello, I errm quite like like prog rock too errm that is to say I errm have a friend who really really likes prog rock
  15. Am I the only one amused by the fact that people are going out of their way to comment on a topic called "Let's Talk About Progressive Rock" specifically to tell us all that they don't want to talk about progressive rock?
  16. Please tell me that this isn't going to turn into yet another "how can Wals possibly be worth it" thread. I was in dire financial straits a few years back and came within an ace of putting my beloved Wal up for sale purely for the money. I knew I couldn't do it when simply writing the advert made me blub. Thank got I didn't, it's doubled in value since then.
  17. Oh, Charlotte. I know it's 2023 and we don't say such things any more, but can I just say a quick 'phwoarr'? Phwoarr. Thanks.
  18. Spotted a really handsome P copy on my local Farcebook marketplace... nice purple finish with only a couple of minor dings, maple neck, on close viewing the action looked pretty low which was a good sign, and very cheap too... so I thought I'd get it as a possible base for modding... send a message... I missed it by 10 minutes apparently 😭

I'm just working on a parts project and I bought a purple Squier PJ body pending getting a Fender Jazz one at some point.

Yes, it was much the same colour as that. Imagine it with a maple board. Lovely looker. :(

This one's not in the best condition, but it'll do to hold everything together whilst I'm getting the parts.
