  1. I tend to put 13A fuses in things with heating elements -- kettle, toaster, etc -- and in the plugs for extension cables, 4-ways etc. Everything else gets 3A or 5A. My Shuttle amp has a 5A I think, the wireless PSU a 3A. I recall that my old Carlsbro Delta bass amp came with a 7A slo-blo. Must have been a big ol' inrush.
  2. I'd go to Jon Shuker and I'd say "Hello Jon, here are some biscuits**, please make me this:" Headless 5-string. 32" scale, through-neck. Neck probably a maple/wenge/flamed maple sandwich like my current Shuker. Definitely a birdseye maple board and orange side LEDs. Body shape and woods undecided***, but a chambered body for light weight. Turner MC5X Multicoil pickups with 'English Voicing', as per funkle's 'Wal-ish'. Lusithand Double NFP Special preamp, again as per @funkle's 'Wal-ish'. Basically I'd like a headless 32" Wal ** there would also be money involved. Sadly Jon doesn't make basses in exchange for Hobnobs. *** this would involve a trip into Jon's legendary Wood Store... if you know, you know
  3. One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer - Amos Milburn
  4. Likewise my Shuttle 9.2. Same problem, same solution.
  5. Thank you for the lecture and for pointing out my minor failings, when I have a spare moment (believe it or not, this isn't actually my day job) I'll go through and "moderate it impartially". Oh, and cheers for the suggestion that it's deliberate inequality rather than genuine error. Much appreciated. However, you've missed one important point regarding the deleting of posts: IT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN NECESSARY IN THE FIRST PLACE.
  6. Yeah, I might do that. Whatever happens, I'll keep the hat -- if I get a new stage one, I'll just cut all the strings off this and use it as a sun hat. If the bloody sun ever comes out, that is.
  7. OK folks, the nasty jibes and passive-aggressive (or just aggressive) snideness stop right now or the thread gets locked. There is no place here for that sort of childish nonsense. If you're going to debate, do it like grown-ups.
  8. This man was born on this day in 1908. Maybe not a familiar face, but you know his work. This is Barry Gray, the man responsible for bringing the Thunderbirds (and Stingray and Captain Scarlet and Joe 90 and UFO and all the other Gerry Anderson masterpieces) to life with his sensational music. For me, the Thunderbirds March is and always will be the finest TV theme of all time, but there are so many other superb pieces within those soundtracks. Have a listen to this, the "Thunderbirds Zero-X Theme", for another of example of his mastery. Together, he and Mr Anderson gave the young me endless hours of pure escapist joy -- and yes, the older me still loves to watch and listen to their amazing work. How I wish I could have met them both to thank them.
  9. Apols for the quality, it's a crop from a wider shot, but this is one of my stage personas -- I call it 'Australian Idiot', complete with yet another hat. I'm going to have to replace it soon, as some of the corks have split and are clinging on for dear life.
  10. Yes, my first reaction was 3. The more I listen to it, the more I prefer it.
  11. Bucket-list ones that I've played: 100 Club Marquee O2 Forum Kentish Town (back when it was Town & Country Club) Thekla, Bristol Yet to do, but time is not on my side: Any major festival One we had to miss out on: McLaren after-party at the Monaco Grand Prix (that hurt)
  12. Ska/reggae band. Our normal is two sets, set 1 is 45 mins and set 2 is 55ish, with a 15 minute encore. If they're really raising the roof, we drag Night Boat to Cairo out for ages with a bunch of solos. We can do up to 2x60+enc, but none of us are getting any younger
  13. Some time ago I found a wiring diagram for the Roscoe Beck -- I'm assuming it's accurate as I've never seen the innards of one. I'd definitely consider performing some surgery if I got one of these.
  14. That sound you hear is my credit card sighing with relief that they still aren't doing a 5-string version.
  15. Having very quickly tired of Dua Lipa**, I tried watching Jungle on BBC4 the other night, but while they sounded good the lights immediately made it totally unwatchable for me. I've never seen so much strobing in my life. If they didn't trigger at least one seizure in the audience, I'll be amazed. The goddamned things are dangerous. ** what does the team think regarding the widespread accusations that she was lip-synching? Was/wasn't she?
  16. Oh good call sir. My favourite Duran track.
  17. Great ska gig on Saturday night, as per usual the PA was vocal/guitar/keys/kick/snare only so my Genz/Barefaced stack of doom was roaring away at the back. I love it when I have to crank it up a bit. Using the Spector, as per usual on the ska gigs, I experimented with a couple of sounds... usually for 'Time Bomb' I use a slightly grubby SVT model on my Zoom MS60B, but this time I also stamped on the Wine Cellar for an extra bit of grit and oh my god it was HUGE. Without a doubt the best pick sound I've ever had.
  18. Any further updates Eddie?
  19. I've heard lots of good things about the Ibanez GSRM20 Mikro basses. 29" scale and very light.
  20. The GP12SMX Trace preamp has two pre-shape settings, IIRC one of them actually sounds ok. But I never used either of them live.
  21. Yes, the Signal Shape 'Mid Scoop' button on my Genz always remains disengaged. I wish I could go back in time and tell my 22 year old self to stop trying to get a good sound with that stupid smiley EQ curve everybody used.
  22. The three best sounding amps I've had, in no particular order: Genz-Benz Shuttle (the 6.0 I used to have, and the 9.2 I have now) -- clean, powerful, and ridiculously light... the perfect amp for a gigging 59-year-old Eden WT400 -- lovely uncoloured sound. The best live sound I've ever had was when I borrowed @Kiwi's old Ken Smith BSR 5 and played it through the Eden. They were made for each other. Trace Elliot GP12SMX -- still my favourite preamp of all time.
