  1. My god. People have been publicly flogged for far lesser crimes than that. If you listen carefully, you can hear the poor thing crying. At least when I fitted the EMG pickup in my old Roadie 1 (in my defence, the original humbug died and I already had the EMG in the spares box), I had the good sense** to put it in the original pickup cavity. ** a rare thing for me
  2. Nice one. Personally speaking I always prefer rounds on a fretless. I know it's a very personal thing. I'm going to move this to the reviews section if that's ok.
  3. Yes, these are always v.interesting, some surprising results too. I'll have my Barefaced cab if you want to do a 2x12 comparison, although I think that was what we had in 2021. Did you do one last year? As for a live player, I'm not sure I'd want to get my feeble chops out in public...
  4. Bassically Taps - Stanley Clarke
  5. Damned if I’m going to miss it this year. So I’ll start the ball rolling with the gear list: 1. Rich - Spector Q4, Shuker 5-string, Genz-Benz Shuttle 9.2, Barefaced Super 12T
  6. I bought a set of BBs and the G was dead straight out of the pack. I mean deader than Julius Caesar. Far too dead to crackle.
  7. I've probably missed it, but is there a date for the 2023 BFSWBB yet?
  8. Dunno about anyone else but Sunday usually works best for me... Saturdays are a bit more difficult as there are always Things 'We' Need To Do apparently.
  9. Rocks, Pebbles And Sand - Stanley Clarke
  10. Hmmm. That's a route I might well go down in the future... right now I'm going to stick with the black though.
  11. Quick setup done -- all that was needed was some saddle height adjustment, the neck relief was already spot on and even the new bridge's intonation was correct straight out of the jiffybag. Lovely low action and it plays like a dream, and oh my word it sounds HUUUGE. I was wondering about changing the vol/vol controls to vol/blend, but I really don't think I'll bother. <- any thoughts on this, anyone? I'm going to experiment with the treble DIP switches though and see which setting works best for me. This thing is a revelation. The best hundred quid I have spent in years. Christ, why has it taken so long for me to get a Spector into my life?
  12. Fabulous job, but I'd have to fit a grille of some sort... Having all those cones out in the open would make me reeeeeeally nervous
  13. Am I right in thinking this was basically the Modulus Sonic Hammer with a signature attached? Awesome bass, no doubt about it. Properly brutal.
  14. Damn, the guy had a proper quality beard too. Not enough of them around.
  15. I'm going to stick with the black knobs, and the black straplock buttons. I like the symmetry of it as it is, I think gold knobs would be just a bit too much.
  16. How it started vs. how it's going, part II... Bridge fitted and some old strings thrown on just to get it working. Frets polished, fingerboard cleaned but could do with a light oiling. Still needs a proper setup, and a good body polish. I like it already. To my utter astonishment and delight, it is nearly 2lbs lighter than my 2-Tone J. Depending on how well it fits tonally, I think this might be my new ska bass. I know gold hardware is a bit marmite, but I think this looks the absolute feckin business. Oh, and I've found out why these gold tuners were in the spares box... one of them is fecked something inside stripped out as I was tuning it. Into the bin it goes, and off to ebay I go...
  17. I agree wholeheartedly with both these statements.
  18. So much interest in the state of my knob(s). Ooer, matron I did consider gold ones, but... then I looked at pics of Spector Euros with gold hardware (these, for example), and they all have black knobs. I had some gold ones and some of the black EMG ones in the old spares box, so I did an A/B comparison and I have to say, I prefer the black. Once it's got its bridge and is all finished, I'll do another A/B and make a final decision.
  19. Dreadful news. This year's bash will be the lesser for his absence. I now bitterly regret missing last year's. If only I'd known. Any news on a virtual condolence card?
  20. How it started vs. how it's going...
  21. Looking at that lineup, I can barely contain my apathy. Ye gods, what a snoozefest.
  22. Gold bridge, subtle black EMG control knobs as per the top range Spectors, and other little details - gold screws for the TRC and back plate, etc. And a good elbow-grease going-over with T-cut and polish.
  23. I've just seen the price of them, and am going to go & make a coffee specifically to spit out Joking aside, I'm an Elixir fan so I'm used to spending big money on strings (albeit only every 18 months or so!). I've no doubt they'd look amazing, but I'll stick with my regular Elixirs I think. I've a part worn set I'll throw onto it for the time being.
  24. I think this has decided it. Gold it is.
