  1. 41 years ago today, the crews of the MV Union Star and the RNLI Penlee lifeboat Solomon Browne all perished in a force 12 storm off the Cornish coast. The actions of the Penlee boat crew were later described by the rescue helicopter pilot as "The greatest act of courage that I have ever seen, and am ever likely to see".

      The ultimate in unappreciated jobs.

Unpaid, being thrown about in the pissing down rain....you wouldn't get me out there.

We should all be glad that somebody else is prepared to though.

  2. *ON HOLD* Classic lightweight cab in great condition, apart from the fact that the 12" drivers are both stone dead. The crossover and HF tweeter are still perfectly ok. So this is effectively an empty cab. The carpet is in superb condition, all the corners are fine, the grille is un-dented and all badges are present and correct. £100 firm, either collected from my gaff or alternatively I'd be prepared to meet up within a reasonable radius from Bristol, as far east as Chippenham. Courier would cost a fortune and I don't have the packaging materials. No offers please, and not really interested in trades.

  6. When it says 'high end', presumably it means right at the very top of the woodburner log pile..?

  9. Was that one he'd written? God I'm not surpised he was chuffed. That's a proper result for any song-scribbler.
  10. The "It's a long story" is a link to the, errm, long story TL;DR version: it's a bitsa/butchering job specifically engineered towards ska/bluebeat, only has the one pickup because I found I just wasn't using the bridge pickup

  12. It's a long story...
  13. I even went and had a little boogie with the punters during our Night Boat encore
  14. Second gig of the Train To Skaville micro-tour last night... Haydon Wick Social Club in Swindon. Nice place, pleasant management and a keen crowd. It was open to the public, so a lot of the Madchat crowd turned up. We went down extremely well, quite a few club members paid us big compliments afterwards and we're guaranteed a booking or two for next year. Makes the 02:30 bedtime worthwhile
  15. I drink a lot of coffee during the day. A lot. But none of it ever tastes as good as the first cup of the day.

  17. Not at all. I use a 5 string 100% with the Destroyers but rarely venture below Eb or D (for which I could drop tune a 4) and I don't feel remotely pretentious. For me the main advantage of a 5 is the ability to play across the neck rather up & down.
  18. Skaville gig in Bradford on Avon last night. Not quite as busy as previous years, only 2 deep at the bar rather than 3 this time we sounded good and seemed to go down well. @BreadBin came along, nice to see a familiar friendly face! Doing it all over again in Swindon tonight. The usual gear... Skabass -> Shuttle 9.2 -> Barefaced Super 12T. Sounded feckin massive.
  19. Only 27? Pfft. Amateur hour.
