  1. Discs (Ask me next week, it'll be a different list. Although nos.1 and 5 are permanent fixtures in My Top Ten.) Shipbuilding, Robert Wyatt Mood Swings, Mike Stern. One of Jaco’s last recordings, playing along with it would be a challenge that would keep me occupied for quite a while. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Dream Theater. 42 minutes of proggy excess. The Essential, from Mark King’s solo album Influences. Nimrod, from Elgar’s Enigma Variations. Jupiter, from Holst’s Planets Suite. Awaken, Yes – the live House Of Yes version. 43, Level 42 – ideally a live bootleg with the big percussion break. Choosing just one to flee with would be incredibly difficult. I’d have to make a tough last-minute choice, probably between nos.3 & 4. Book A Painted House, John Grisham. His best book by a country mile, and not a lawyer in sight. I’d absolutely love the Shakespeare, but you can keep the bible. Can I have a philosophical tome instead? Luxury I suppose a bass is a bit obvious my Tanglewood ABG would be perfect, and if I can have a few spare sets of Elixirs too that’d be great.
  2. If the choice is limited to those, then the pink edges it.
  3. If I'm going to be picky, I'd say those aren't the neck inlays I'd have chosen. But hey, that's a bit like complaining that the road in the background of the Mona Lisa is a bit too bendy. It's a beautiful thing of, well, beauty.
  4. This. I've got 1.2 horsepower thundering behind me on stage, yet my back still loves me.
  5. Very much in agreement with the idea of amps having 9v/12v/18v dc supply outs on them. Would be massively useful.
  6. Ah, but would the Gibson balloon be any better than the Epiphone balloon?
  7. All You Need Is Cash - The Rutles
  8. 538
  9. 8 working electric basses, plus 2 non-working ones 1 acoustic bass guitar 1 acoustic guitar (everyone should have a pawn-shop acoustic) 3 amps 2 cabs, plus two wedges 1 combo amp
  10. So does this mean that the 'fat' bit is the problem? Really?
  11. Would it be ok if they were thin blokes doing covers?
  12. NSD... shiny new Elixir nickels on the ska bass :sun_bespectacled:

  15. Perhaps I should retire then, if that's such a bad thing.
  16. And that was after you'd taken them off...
  17. I'm at work at the moment, but when I get home I'll do the job with my Thunder 1A. I think all the TRCs are the same, apart from wording..?
  18. I'd love an EUB. It'd be a bit of a waste of money though as none of my current gigs are even remotely suitable, and it'd be a lot of cash to splash on just a toy. I play mostly 5s and have done since 1997, so I'd go straight for a 5.
  19. I still can't believe (actually, sadly I can ) the amount of luddite hate that ERBs get on Farcebook whenever a pic of one is posted in a bass group. It amuses me that everyone who posts "that's not a bass it's a harp" or "just get a piano" or "Jaco only needed 4" seems to think they're the first ever to say it. Still, at least by publicising their bass bigotry it makes it easy to know which idiots to block. ERBs are very much not my cup of darjeeling, but I take my hat off to anyone who makes music with one. I like to see boundaries being pushed. Although only using 2 strings seems like a weird waste!
  20. I've just joined the tablet brigade -- picked up an iPad 2 off evilbay for pence. OK, so there are only about 3 apps in the App Store that are compatible with it, but one of them is a pdf reader and that's all I need. It will be more of a rehearsal tool than a live one, although I am going to experiment with going entirely paperless and put the gig set list on it. I also imagine it will come in extremely useful for my semi-regular dep gig where I need to refer to notes (or at least have them to hand as an insurance policy). I've bought a stand-mount for it and am going to experiment with attaching it to my Herc guitar stand. Failing that, I'll use the bottom half of my old mic stand.
