Happiness is a warm soldering iron, and at least one bit-shaped minor burn.
  2. I think the worst solo I've seen live wasn't a solo as such, but you'll see what I mean... I saw a jazz combo down at the Old Duck** in Bristol one night, the bassist had a nice old Jazz and my first impression was that he could really play. He took a solo, which was very impressive, but it became apparent that he just didn't know when to stop. He just kept doing it... he widdled away all over the sax solo, he even kept on in the drum solo, seemingly oblivious to the fact that everyone else except him had stopped. After a couple of songs of this inability to STFU, my opinion of him had totally changed, and I just wanted him to shove his nice old Jazz right up there and sod off. ** as all you Brizzlers will know, its actual name is the Old Duke... but I had a Brazilian colleague some years ago who called it 'Old Duck' and it's kind of stuck.
  3. I've got these on my Sire V7 and they are excellent things. Much better than the circular creations Fender fit. This would be perfect for anyone doing a 'stealth' look on their bass, and a tenner is a proper bargain for a Hipshot part. GLWTS!
  4. While the Gene Simmons 'solo' posted earlier would instantly take uncontested #1 slot in a 'worst actual thing of any sort anywhere' thread. I felt embarrassed just watching it.
  5. Now there's a mahoosive bargain if ever I saw one. GLWTS.
  6. Likewise. The songs I use a pick on are all about either attack or speed/rhythm. Rancid's 'Time Bomb' doesn't sound aggressive enough fingerstyle, and the rhythm of The Beat's 'Mirror In The Bathroom' only really works with the regular up/down pick strokes. In terms of tone, I've never noticed a lack of bass when switching between fingers and pick. For some of the more aggressive songs, I use an SVT model on the MS-60B with a bit of grit, but even then the 'tone' controls on the model are set fairly flat. Likewise the fliptop model I use for some of the more old skool sounds.
  7. No no no, you can't leave it hanging like that. C'mon, share.
  8. I keep my basses on a stand just like this, which is in an old wardrobe. Keeps them out of the dust, out of the sunlight, out of sight. It's the perfect solution for me.

  10. Wow, that is a proper swiss army knife. Looks like a fabulously flexible bit of kit.

I like the look of some of their stuff. There are a whole host of different kits on their site. I would be very interested to know how the ordering & delivery process goes and whether it gets delayed or you get stung for a lot of VAT etc. Please keep us posted.
  12. I've not listened to the whole thing as I don't have half an hour to spare right now, but in general I hate sweeping generational stuff, "all boomers are... all millenials are...". It's lazy at best and bigoted at worst. I'm not talking about this vid, just in general. All I'll say is I'm not a boomer, but a 1965 Jazz is very much on my GAS list. If I had the money, I would definitely buy some vintage instruments. My bestie is gen X too, but he has a lovely little collection of 50s/60s Gibson jazz boxes. On the other hand, I bet there are a lot of boomers here who wouldn't look twice at a vintage instrument.
  13. The Jackal, Ronny Jordan. Absolutely the coolest thing ever, ever. I get frostbite just thinking about it.
  14. The fretless neck on my Ray was made by Jaydee. If you come across a similar one, grab it immediately with both hands.
  15. So are you full of woe, or full of "whoa!"..? We were called Thursday's Child because we had a long, long way to go before we were anywhere near giggable
  16. According to their Instagram, the dibble have closed their case already. Pathetic.
  17. In a similar play on names, some mates of mine had a band called Psychedelia Smith.
