  1. Something lightweight. I've got Hipshots on two basses and I like them. Those Schaller Da Vincis are really nice.
  2. My band is a big ol' bunch -- 12 or 13 of us at any given time. As you can imagine it is a logistical nightmare getting everybody anywhere at any given time, just getting everybody's availability for gigs is bad enough. We've been using Doodle for ages to do this; if there's a gig offer then we start a poll and everyone answers yes/no/if needed as applicable. It's worked for ages but unfortunately the Doodle people have broken the cardinal rule "if the damn thing works, don't bugger about with it" and they've buggered about with it till it's virtually unusable. So I'm looking for alternatives. One I'm trialling is 'WhenAvailable', so far it seems pretty good. It's free to use as long as there are less than 20 of us, and with our usual deps we sneak in under this. What do you folks use, if anything?
  3. Oi bugger off, I saw it first
  4. We do this in my ska band, it's one of my favourites in the set. I play it with a pick, using an SVT amp model cranked to give a bit of dirt. Love it.
  5. I rather like the black with gold accents on this very lovely instrument.
  6. I used to have one of these as part of my separate pre- & power-amp rig. What a superb bass preamp it makes. The compressor is magnificent, it's worth getting for that alone. 40 quid is a ludicrous bargain.
  7. If only you'd been looking for one a couple of months back when I was trying to sell my Novation K-Station...
  8. Damn right. My pension lump-sum is looming and a 5-string version of this would be right up my street...
  9. Not my dad, but a bandmate's... Back in the 90s I was in a pub rock/r'n'b covers band in Swindon. Very nice bunch of guys, we gigged a fair bit in the town's pubs over a couple of years. When I first met up with them to have a chat (pretty much the only audition I had ) the singer Tony mentioned in passing that his dad had played bass in the 60s. Turned out his dad was Brian Gregg from Johnny Kidd & The Pirates... that's him on "Shakin' All Over".
  10. The colour is Emerald Green, it was one of the original special order only finishes. It's actually a pretty good price for a Pro bass, they don't command the same prices as the Customs. Gives me a good idea of what mine's worth!
  11. There was some discussion about this on BassRat earlier. Opinion is split as to whether Stentor or Gewa bags taste better. Of course, some of the more hardcore types are saying that hard cases taste best and only wimps eat gigbags.
  12. OK so this is a solo but it is a ridiculously melodic one. Makes me smile every time I hear it. WARNING, fusion content.
  13. Go Away - Living Colour
  14. Hoochie Coochie Naan - Muddy Waters
  15. As I said in the other thread: There are many aspects that are a pain in the derrière, yes. But there were times a couple of years back when I wondered if I'd ever be able to play again. Thankfully I still can, and now I don't care how far the drive, how late the night, how tired the loadout -- I'm in two wonderful bands and loving every second of every gig, simply because I can. And for that I am grateful.
  16. Eat It - Weird Al Yankovic
  17. Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction
  18. This for me is the crowning aspect of the build. Everything about it is awesome, but the back of the neck is just... wow. This is some of the finest inlay/marquetry work I think I've ever seen.
  19. Peter and the Test Tube Babies Question Mark and the Mysterians
  20. Yet Another Song About Weed - Professor Rex
  21. Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo - South Park cast
  22. The only cab I've ever managed to physically damage was my old Laney 4x10 Pro-Bass combo back in the 80s. And that's because it was in the boot of my Viva when I wrote it off by tailending (and completely destroying) a Datsun 120Y.
  23. A Song for Me - Family
  24. Pfft. Pathetic excuse.
