  1. When I 3D printed a new pickguard for my first proper bass, I relied on the fact that the pots were on the faceplate and wired to ground ... I had also wired ground to the backing layer of the copper tape. I recall I spread out the wires and then stuck some more tape on top so they were sandwiched between two layers. Yes, ultimeter FTW @MichaelDean! S'manth x
  2. It's a PJB C4, two slot ports and 4x5 inch drivers 😕 S'manth x
  3. I didn't think that miniturisation had become quite that advanced ... and even if it had, plugging in an instrument or mic cable would be ... well ... Hope AliExpress don't mess you about with a refund! S'manth x
  4. I'm not quite sure what I'm seeing, but it is no XR18 ... just an empty box with some thin packaging!? S'manth x
  5. When you mic a cab, where have you found is the best position for the mic? S'manth x
  6. I neglected to mention my bad back in the OP. Slipped disk while repositioning a 150kg patient who was ventilated/sedated so a dead weight. It means I can no longer do ITU nursing (Which was heartbreaking) but I've found a role in cardiology research which is a blessing. I can walk (with a cane) and stand for an hour or so so gigging is still on, but need the lightest gear and a shortscale. S'manth x
  7. Hi Charlie, welcome to BC. Beware the marketplace here tho, too many great deals to trigger GAS! 🤣 S'manth x
  8. I've been advised to do this but I really struggle to get up off the mat! S'manth x
  9. How many folks here suffer from a bad back (or similar) that impacts what gear/rig you use?
  10. What is a coffee table bass? S'manth x
  11. A few months ago I was fortunate to rehome an XR18 from Dunc, along with some extras. Recently he realised that he would liked to have retained the Beheringer Powerplay P16-M personal mixer and I had never used it (Nor likely to). Thus ensued a great transaction with it returning home, prompt payment, great comms, could not ask for better. Another win for our great BC marketplace, thanks Dunc! S'manth x
  12. After my research (and the great ideas from you folks) I have landed. GAS kicked in (My poor bank account!) so I'll soon be a multi head house! 🤣 I've pushed the button on a Trace Elliot Elf to cover the small/light desire, in the the reviews I've watched it sounds really nice and is lite as a feather; I may be able to play without any pedalboard or simply a Zoom B1X-Four. I'm also getting an HB Block 800-B, it comes with a meh preamp and perhaps some high floor noise, but I can sort this with a mod I found on that german bassics forum (No, I'm not a turncoat ... BC is my bass home!); the poweramp is very well regarded and it seems will do nicely for my modelling pedalboard when I am prepared to lug some more gear around. Both from the fine folks here on BC! Thanks all for your ideas! S'manth x
  13. I concur, I was sorely tempted by the MC8 but I've an MC6 already and have reigned in my GAS! 🤣 S'manth x
  14. 4 strings! Which is frustating, I play short/sub short scale due to fretting hand pain on anything longer and there are vanishing few 5 string short scales about. S'manth x
  15. I've investigated a similar setup, tho for me f/x return is key which excluded units like the Elf and the Bam200 (Tho the BAM 200 seemed a strong contender) I read the MiniMax (Both V1 and V2) has a very loud fan ; there is a Bugera Veyron listed here on BC that tempted me, but I fear the master volume crackle would drive me mad! I've ended up going for a HB 800-B, it is not so good from a preamp perspective, but I intend to use the F/X return from my modelling unit (Dwarf) and I can mod as described on the german bassic site to tame the preamp; it has a poweramp unit that is as good as most class D systems. 16. Some really interesting options listed, thanks all! I've also poured over what's listed on BC at present... Reports of scratchy master volumes or intrusive fan noise (My home practice is in a small space at low volumes) on some might really bug me. There are a couple of corkers that are tantilizingly just above my budget, but I then got to thinking ... if I'm going to go for f/x amp modelling into the f/x return, why pay for all the preamp goodies ... so I've been investigating just a power amp, like a GR PureAmp 350 or GSS Baby Sumo, any here using these? What are your thoughts about them? I'm quite tempted by the HB Block 800B which seems to have all the options I would like, is affordable, reviews seem favourable and it would come with 3 year warranty ... if I didn't like it (Or suffered the high floor noise I saw one user have) then I could return it. The other one that shouts to me is the PJB BP-800, I've watched some great reviews and it would be nicely matched with the C4 (and who knows if a twin might one day join the fold) ... but the lowest new price I've seen is £660, which is out of my reach , I've posted in the wanted section as you never know ... S'manth x
  17. I'm currently using a TC BH250 to drive the C4 and it is suitable powerful for the gigs I'm doing (No drummer!), if the TC only had FX loop I'd most likely stick with it. S'manth x
  18. I can just about manage a couple of meters! But I've a bad back, which is why I try to get the lightest gear I can. A small hand cart works great for me, but the one I've got currently is at its limit with this cab and it has tiny wheels so stairs are challenging. S'manth x
