Nor could I … I’d been wondering if I dared to ask him if I could just touch Betsy and then he offered that! 🥳 S’manth x

If I understand correctly, a low E is about 41Hz and a low B 30Hz. Do any bass cabs actually reproduce these frequencies? Do any smaller bass cabs (12 inch or less) succeed? Is there some magic in a cab that helps? (What does a cab being tuned to XHz mean?) Pretend I know nothing, which should be easy as I ... know nothing! S'manth x

S'manth pondering the idea of slapping a 'for sale' sticker on that bass she simply must have ... wonder if the owner would object! S'manth x

Very grateful to have been one of the lucky BCers to receive a Bayma SM212 Driver from the generous @JohnDaBass (Thank you!!) Now the housing. I'm not knowledegable enough to design one so I'm looking at the fab BC112 designs on here. With a bad back, I'm looking to create a 'light as a feather' cab (<10Kg) and am investigating what options might be viable, but again ... I don't know what qualities a bass cab should have to sound good. Are the sides suppossed to be totally rigid, with no give/ressonance at all or do they need to have some flex? Does thickness matter (apart from strength) ... if one had a paper thin material that was totally rigid, would it likely work? What are the issues (if any) of using thin (8mm or 12mm) ply? Does anyone have experience of building a cab using a sheet of foam/balsa layered wrapped in a composite such as fiberglass? Any thoughts on a 3D printed honeycomb casing (In reality this would entail a number of pieces glued together as my 3D printer bed is not big enough to do a cab side in one print) S'manth x

Unnecessary to wrap certain pickups in copper tape?
SamIAm replied to max_overdrive's topic in Repairs and Technical
I do not understand their logic. Plastic does not shield against electromagnetic noise and all the onboard electronics (wires/pots/etc) will also be vulnurable unless their cavity (and inner surface of the cavity cover) is not shielded in some way (copper tape/graphite paint). Having said that, his electronics cavity is seperate. In the video he suggests that it might not bring much benefit ... he is also talking about pickups which are totally encased in a grounded metal housing ... not just a plastic one. In my experience, the extra effort of copper tape (given you are replacing the pups and having to wire them in) is incremental ... I would do it ... of course ymmv 🤷♀️ S'manth x -

Oh my goodness! Master luthier and what fab playing. What a treat awaits the young-uns. S'manth x -
Could you fill the existing hole/gap with something like this and then drill a new right sized hole? S’manth x

You have to spend £300 on effects pedals for tonight's gig…
SamIAm replied to max_overdrive's topic in General Discussion
Zoom B2 Four. Why S'manth!? In budget. Loads of f/x (you did say an f/x loving bassist). Patches can be configured on the unit itself. Reviews seem favourable. Have had good personal experience with the B1Four. S'manth x -
What a beauty (I saw you are bringing a 5 str fretless to the bash on Sunday and had to look see) S'manth x

Darn these accidental double posts! What to say ... what to say! Ooooo ... I've been listening to Guy Pratt's book on Audible ... loads of genuine laugh out loud moments ... really looking forward to hearing him. S'manth x

I'm aiming to bring Quinn, my 5 str unlined Harley Benton B-550FL BK. Not sure a demo from me would add any value, but you are most welcome to give it a bash! S'manth x

An absolutely cracking wee amp that as well as punching well above its weight, can run off AA batteries for 6-8h! It was the very first bass amp I ever bought. I 'd say the closest equivalent is the Boss Dual Cube Bass LX Portable Bass Amp ... but it's a lot more expensive! Someone is in for a treat with this ... GLWTS! S'manth x

Now I'm back in my home I've been looking into building one of the BC112 cabs ... at present a Beyma SM212 is one its way to me from a kind BCer! So why mention here? I'm wondering if anyone coming next week might be bringing one of the BC112s loaded with such a driver so I can get an idea of sound/size/weight. S'manth x

Welcome to BC and all things bass! I moved from playing ukulele to playing bass ukulele (still do) and then bass guiitar. My first bass I really enjoyed (even tho not a blinder!), it was not too expensive and that allowed me to just fiddle with setting it up, and then making all sorts of mods without worrying I was going to damage an expensive instrument; it's not too hard especially with the wealth of videos/articles on-line. A google search shows that £50 is less than you'd spend on either of the items individually (used) so a real bargain I'd say. I suspect you'd be able to sell them on in the future without much financial hit. And as to trying out other basses, there is the SE bass bash next Sunday (Addlestone) where you will be most welcome and able to play many (many) different instruments as well as chat to loads of bass heads. Repairing screw holes in a guitar neck...
SamIAm replied to rwillett's topic in Repairs and Technical
One approach would be to use bolts/inserts instead of screws; nice and solid and no need to fiddle with glue etc. https://nectite.com/ I've seen one of the builders here on BC mention using them ... but I can't recall who! edit: found it! S'manth x -
