Having injured my back on duty in Aug 2021 I can relate, it is only recently that I am able to stand for any period of time ... enough to gig or do some clinical work, but not sufficient for the 12.5h shifts or heavy moving and handling that is required in ITU ... a role change is in progress. From a bass playing perspective I'm now a short scale fan(well sub short scale as I came into bass grooving on a UBASS) and they are LIGHT! As @tauzerosuggests, the Hohner/Steinberger basses are brilliant from a weight perspective. I had a Hohner B2V and it was under 3kg, I loved that bass (looks/feel/sound)! The only reason I sold it was due to my fretting hand not liking anything more than short scale (Damn you fretting hand!), I tried the 1-2-4 approach but my mind was ... unwilling ... to participate! lol S'manth x

Around the table in the board room. 🤣

I've seen a number of users who have experienced increased CPU load with 1.13. S'manth x

I have Schaller S2s on two of my basses and two of my straps. I love the feeling of security they provide that the strap will not slip off with my bass crashing to the floor! S'manth x

Last August I lost almost all of my "stuff" in my flat fire, it was devastating!! Among what I consider my essentials was my Macbook, which was turned into a crispy mass of melted stuff. I was fortunate in being able to obtain an old Thinkpad running linux, which was better than nothing but ... once you go Mac you cannot go back! Owen was fortunate to have work supply him with a new Macbook (a sexy beast ... I mean the Macbook, I cannot speak of anything else) and so was looking to move on his slightly older personal device. I ummed and awwed and figured that over 5 years it would cost me less per month than Netflix and so I took the plunge. (As I think it was Woody Allen said, rationalisation is more important than sex ... have you ever gone a week without rationalising?) Our communications was textbook perfect. Saturday we did the deal and the Macbook arrived about 45 minutes ago! As described, it is in perfect condition and already in use (I'm writing this on it) ... I'm home again! lol @Owenis for sure a top BCer and I would not hesiitate at all in dealing with him again. S'manth score of 11/10! S'manth x

indeed. I received a cosmetically damaged bass from Musiker, it had suffered an impact around the bottom button strap resulting is some finish flaking off. It was a B stock, which they described as nearly new but opened or used for demo etc. I told them what I anticipated the repair cost (inc shipping )would be and said I’d keep it if they discounted it by that much plus a bit for inconvenience, all in all about £130 on a £270 instrument. They knocked off £100, which I accepted … and I’ll fix the damage myself. IF you like it then a similar approach would be worth considering. S’manth x

Another vote for a Zoom f/x unit. My "sexy" multi-fx is a Mod Dwarf, but it requires mains and a web browser to configure (tho it is amazing in terms of the range and quality of effects). But last night, I was out for a jam session and I left the Dwarf at home and took my Zoom B1XFour pedal ... quality is acceptable, capability is acceptable, it runs off batteries so no need to hunt for a mains socket and it is small and light ... Zoom FTW! S'manth x edit: I should share that I also took my Blackstar Fly battery powered bass Amp (which is also surprisingly capable) so my full f/x& system fit into my rucksack ... really low hassle!!

V.Nice! Perhaps the stain or not choice will be guided by the wood when it arrives? S’manth x

Looks fantastic! How does it play/sound? S’manth x

I never got on with Blender, I’ve found fusion 360 a lot better … quite a learning curve but works well on MacOS and with some constraints (eg 10 editable files) is free for personal use. S’manth x

Really great work! S’manth x

Simon and I had been messaging for a time as he was interested in purchasing my Hohner B2V. We met today in the classic BC style … car park midway and chatted bass of course! Sad to have the bass depart but it has gone to a good home, top BC’er. S’manth x

🤣 She had a zero fret, fretless was easy and angling the zero fret …. Voila a multi scale! used one of those online fret distance tools to draw in the fret lines. And changing to single scale was similarly straightforward. S’manth x

The first incarnation of my first self build (Twiggy) was multi scale fretless I found I could not play without looking at the lines, there being 5 sets of muscle memory to get to grips with, even using the side markers was challenging. I changed the setup to be single scale length whic I found much better. S’manth x

What is there to gain … enjoyment and a lovely sound. I would go for a five string (but I am a 5 string lover) and can highly recommend the Harley Benton B-550FL, mine pictured on the left. Similar to the four string version the Lobster reviewed. S’manth x

Isn’t ‘I hear the slugs a hummin’ an old JC tune?

I cannot imagine someone with a spoon down their sock being overrun by slugs.

Nods, I firmly rub over the tape with the end of a cheap bic pen (or similar), the APT tape I linked to above does have conductive adhesive and gave great connectivity when I used it, I overlapped tape strips by about 10mm. S’manth x

You will remove the potentiometers when shielding the cavity, make sure the shielding tape runs all the way up to the edge of the holes (and even into the hole) … when you put the pots back in, their metal casing will be in contact with the shielding and should provide a ground connection. Make sure alll the tape strips you apply have an overlap with one next to it. Make sure the tape in the cavities wraps a little onto the front of the body, when you put the cover back on this will make connect the cavity shielding with the cover shielding. Not sure if you’ve seen this page which has some good instructions. https://sixstringsupplies.co.uk/pages/copper-shielding-how-to-shield-a-guitar A cheap multimeter would be a good investment, several on Amazon for about £10.
