  1. Someone has suggested I try the Simandl fingering approach to address my fretting hand discomfort, I’m going to give it a go and so I am withdrawing the Hohner for now. S’manth x
  2. I’ve just had a wee go … it is more comfortable (reducing the strain on the back of my hand which is the affected area for me), but OMG … my fretting went haywire! I shall give it a try over the next few days … but if it means I can play longer scales comfortably it’s would be a huge win! S’manth x
  3. Oooooo … I currently use OFPF at all positions. With my ukulele bass background (where this is easy) I never considered anything different when I started playing longer scales. I shall have to investigate, does it basically mean that you only span three frets in any one position and use index finger on the first fret in the position, middle on second and pinkie (with ring finger supporting) on third? S’manth x
  4. Nut action for all strings is apx 0.5mm, I can not quite get a credit card under. At the 24th fret, B is 4.5mm, the other strings decrease evenly to the G at 3.5. S’manth x
  5. I've got the Thunder Browns on my ubass (5 string fretless solid body) and I totally love them. They seem to run a wee bit thinner than the other strings I've tried (The original blacks that come with the kala and Thunder Reds); they have a slightly rough, non-sticky feel and they give a more thuddy sound, I can even get a wee bit of mwah in the lower notes. Just in case you've not seen these ... S'manth x
  6. I sense UAS rearing its head! Would be great to hear about your ukes in S'manth x
  7. Good to hear. I'm a fiver lover and have been trying to get hold of the GSRM25 as they appear to align with my limits, but ... they are like hens' teeth! I've placed an order with Thomann but they are quoting 8-12 wks before stock is back in and I've put out the call here on BC in the wanted section. S'manth x
  8. Bought a PJB Double Four from Clarky, it was packed well, arrived quickly and is in the pristine condition described ... and OMG, it sounds amazing! The whole experience lived up to the high standards of the BC marketplace. Thanks Clarky, top chap!! S'manth x
  9. Not a full answer, but perhaps an approach? In this Dan H video he is getting a moog like sound using a Zoom B3N I'm not sure if this is a built in patch or one that he crafted, but some further googling should be able to locate that info. Depending on the Zoom unit you have, it may already have the patch/effects loaded ... or you can load effects from other units in the same "generation" ... this site has details. S'manth x
  10. I sold my HX Stomp XL to Ian, what a great BCer … rapid payment and super communication, thanks Ian! S’manth x
  11. Tom just popped by to pick up the Hondo Alien I sold to him. We had great comms beforehand and the obligatory chat about bass stuff whilst he was here, lovely fellow! Thanks Tom! S'manth x
  12. Nods … I really love the lightness of my Hohner B2V headless, but sadly my fingers struggle with its 34 inch scale so I’ve got it up for sale to help fund a a shorty. S’manth x
  13. I’m working my way through this one at present. S’manth x
  14. Yes they are and … yes it is wild! Despite Engineer Scott’s best efforts tho, the way they achieve this is with special materials in the strings (which are quite costly) And the Kiss snippet … I’m now trying to figure out a practical way to put a slap thingie on my fretless UBASS! 🤣 S’manth x
  15. Lovely smooth first transaction with Alain, he bought a pickup from me. Thanks Alain! S'manth x
  16. Amazing! The only sound I can emit when playing is the occasional very gentle grunt! 🤣 S'manth x
  17. I'm not as young as ... I used to be I find the finger stretching and weight of "normal" basses too "demanding" and so most of the time I find myself grooving on my 5 string fretless ukulele bass (tho it does sound really nice with a thuddy/mwahy texture!) which is relatively light and has a 23 inch scale length. I also mostly sit, due to a lower back injury I suffered last year. I'm also in the process of trying to obtain one of the sub short scale five string basses (28.6 inch) to see how I get on with it. I wonder what approaches other players have taken to groove when "the body cannot deliver what the spirit desires"? S'manth x
  18. "New Oldsmobiles are in early this year" ... priceless! S'manth x
  19. Awesome stuff @JJTee! I have to admit (much to my chagrin) that on the first viewing I simply did not "get it" 🤯 Second viewing a few years later ... WOW! I cannot count the number of times I've enjoyed it since ... in fact, I think it may be time for another viewing! (Or shall I start getting my fingers around one from the transcriptions book I just purchased ... as a result of your post!) 🤣 S'manth x
  20. The full tank of gas is more a pipe dream given fuel costs at present? 🤣 S'manth x
  21. I’m (sadly not having had the opportunity to try) not experienced enough to advise, but I believe that how low you go might affect your choice also, do you play with a low B? S’manth x
  22. That is deeply cool! With my latest self build I am going to do as little as possible on the bass itself (To achieve as minimal a look as I can) and do all f/x in my pedal (A self build multi-fx) S'manth x

The mnemonic I learned in medical school for remembering the 12 cranial nerves was also rather risque! Helped it to stick tho; oddly that and the resister colour codes one (which was totally clean) are the only two I can recall. S'manth x
