I hear you! It was very fiddly and I only ended up doing a six way! It was a good mod tho. Another neat one is to add in some onboard distortion https://tonefiend.com/guitar/onboard-distortion-without-a-battery/ S'manth x

A rather nice rendition of A-Train by the amazing Magnus Sjöquist

I had a play with a passie multi switch tone control, here is an example of the various sounds you can achieve. A link to instructions on how to make one can be found in the video description. S'manth x

I feel you! The "Big Boys Race Our ..." mnemonic is etched in my head since my early exploits with breadboards, a cheap and nasty soldering iron and a stack of Babani books ... but these days (as you) I just bung a multimeter on them ... it has the secondary advantage of allowing me to pick one from the strip that is closest to the nominal value. If you can then they should also be able to mill the outside of the tuner head to be the exact shape you want saving the need to find ebony balls (that sounds so wrong!) of the desired size (Tho you would probably need to finish them with some sanding). Most desktop CNC machines would cope. I'd offer to do it for you but my CNC machine is out of action at the moment due to my fire ... perhaps a post in the wanted section of the site? S'manth x

Yes. It could be done with a CNC machine ... or one could drill two adjacent holes of the 4mm size and clean up the cavity with a chisel. S'manth x

Hi Jon ... welcome to the wonderful world of BC! S'manth x

Bought a B1xFour from Rob ... what an amazing transaction. Great comms with an insanely quick delivery of a well packaged unit in pristine condition! Tip top BCer who I'd happily deal with again ... thank you Rob! S'manth x

Crimson sell a kit for about £125 (I cannot speak to its quality) for leveling/dressing https://www.crimsonguitars.com/collections/fretting/products/essential-fret-levelling-and-dressing-toolkit but it does not include nut files. S'manth x

When I moved from 6 to 5 strings I also noted a higher plane of ability (In my head at least!) ... I just click more with the bass! Sexy ... don't forget a sexy bass players hat 🤣 S'manth x

I purchased a copy of the Beatles Complete book from Lawrie. Great comms, book as described and arrived quickly and well packed. Great BCer. Thanks Lawrie! S'manth x

I "upgraded" some hard to see side dots using an ultra fine tipped UniBall POSCA paint based marker pen, they are inexpensive and available in a variety of colours: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Uni-Ball-Posca-PC1-MR-Bullet-Marker/dp/B0046ZAH9E It has worked well, seems to stay on and as it is water based should come off (with a bit of elbow grease) if I ever want. I bought a set of Straplocks from Phil, great comms and quick delivery. Top BCer! S'manth x

Are you plucking in James Jamerson fashion using just your index finger? Alternating using your index and middle fingers to pluck would spread the damage S'manth x

Definitely in the right place BC is amazing … welcome! S’manth x

What a PITA! What proof can they provide ( Say a copy of a signature or a photograph taken) to substantiate their delivery claim? S'manth x

NBD ends in tears... how do I fix the volume pot?
SamIAm replied to polvo's topic in Repairs and Technical
A B250 is a linear 250KOhm pot, where your ebay seller talks about the treble changes they are referring to a passive tone pot so is not applicable here (your bass has active EQ with 3 separate tone controls). As your pot goes through the body of the guitar, I'd guess it to be a long shaft pot, but measure the length of the bit that has a screw thread on it and it will likely be about 10mm (short) or 19mm (long) and get a replacement that has the same length ... also worth checking the diameter of the threaded section is the same. Also make sure you get a smooth shaft rather than a grooved shaft. Thomann have a quite good article about pots S'manth x -
Thank you! I suffered a back injury in Aug 2021 (Whilst helping move a very heavy patient without the proper equipment) resulting in a slipped disk and several months more or less immobile, it seemed to have resolved but flared up again in October, so at present my mobility is much reduced, moveing anything of any weight is a no no and standing for any period is painful. I'm not sure (I've asked in our discord channel), I know we have one of these S'manth x

I am a member of a brilliant maker space which has loads of limb removal capable machines, table saw, band saw, chop saw, etc as well as a plethora of hand power tools. They have a great scheme where one must undergo an induction in the use of a machine by a trained user and they are very through about the safety aspects (so much so I am almost too terrified to use them lol!) Unfortunately, my back injury is making it difficult for me to get to the workshop (along with my seemingly neutron star density block of wood), hence the attempt to do it at home. S'manth x

BOSS RC-30 Loopstation - Reduced to £100 inc UK delivery - *SOLD*

@3belowindeed ... the GSRM25 I have on backorder is not intended for modification (as much as I'd like a headless) ... well, not major body/neck changing mods at least! I've my eye on a bass I already own for the neck shortening ... and I will be able to shift the headless tuner positions up along the body enough to allow for no overhang. S'manth x

For setting up my first time I followed the approach in these videos by Elixir, which are really clear (sadly in imperial measurements). Having said that, I have tweaked things a bit in string height to allow for my playing style. After all of this I then fiddle with my pickup heights to get a nice even sound/volume across the strings. I've found that a sort of warbling/throbbing sound means the pickup is to close to the strings (I think the magnet in the pickup starts to pull too strongly on the string) S'manth x
