  1. Thank you but OUCH! 70USD to buy and ship to the UK, tho it does make me think perhaps I should just design & CNC my own ... S'manth x
  2. Sadly my video gear went bye bye in the fire, but I'll take along my Zoom H2n and a tripod and if @Kingbassistis agreeable aim to get at least an audio recording. S'manth x
  3. So ... some initial thoughts, I'd love your feedback! Brain: Rock Pi 4 SE ... because I have one. Raspberry PI units are very difficult to source and the Rock is a powerful unit! I plan (if possible!) to use the low power processors to power the UI and the high power ones for DSP. But I aim to ensure that BMFX will run on the variety of single board computers that are available. Audio: hifiberry-dac-adc-pro because I have one and it is an impressive bit of gear! Operating System: Elk Audio was a strong contender with it's impressive low latency, but more than two years since the last update worries me! I am likely to go for an Arch Linux system ... which is well maintained, can be configured in a small footprint fashion (I mean why would you want a BMFX to support printing!?) and is ARM compatible. Regardless, my aim is a simple one click install, I do not want this to require any tech skills ... just the ability to plug in a bass and groove!!! Audio S/W ALSA and JACK2 seem no brainers for me! Plugin Host Carla strikes me as the most flexible choice to support most (if not all) plugin technologies. Many are free, some are paid (And hopefully worth it!) and it appears to support "learning" plugins (Neural DSP ... you cost 10 times too much!!) User interface hardware Multiple knobs and foot switches to allow for easy control when gigging! Still pondering touchscreen (Which worries me from a durability perspective) but definitely a display that can be seen clearly during a gig! User Interface software from tablet/phone/laptop likely to be home grown, partly to allow for the capability to configure everything from dials/foot switches on the BMFX and also to allow supporting web remote control from tablets/phones/laptops/etc. This is perhaps the most challenging element. I/O I'd love more feedback here please. Mono/Stereo jacks? Midi (old skool, modern 3.5mm, BLE?) DI? F/X I/O for 4 cable setup? Other things? More means a wee bit harder, but also more flexible! Hopefully an early prototype in the not too distant future! S'manth x
  4. SO tempted, just not sure if it is compatible with my Hohner B2V pups ... I cannot determine if they are EMGs or something else! Regardless, a fantastic bargain ... GLWTS S'manth x
  5. In the end we're all as young as we feel ... on that basis I'm still 32!!! (But with the knowledge and experience of my nearly 60 years lol!) S'manth xx
  6. Nods, but I've heard the chalk is degrading so I've chosen not to do any! Fully trad in Wales sounds glorious! Perhaps one day we can join forces (Trad not bass ... tho both would be awesome!! S'manth x
  7. Such an approach would surely end up like this!? None shall pass (up a new f/x unit) The Black Knight (or stew in this case) ALWAYS triumphs! I do wonder tho if Patsy's coconut horse f/x are available in any f/x systems ... 🤔 S'manth x
  8. Youngster!!!! What, maybe 35ish? About half my age!!! S'manth xx
  9. S'manth ... a new look! Wonderfully inexpensive (Apart from the boots which I managed to salvage from the fire and the hat a dear friend gifted me!) ... the stool which is making me smile so was about £10 from a local charity shop ... bargain and great for my back!!! S'manth x
  10. A fair number of my posts will make even less sense recently, I've needed to delete a lot of images to allow me to add new ones.

    Sorry!

  11. Currently listening to "The Sound of Silence" (Not the song, literally silence!) it is glorious when my shifts are full of beeps, wheeps, questions, etc/etc/etc! Silence can be golden!!! S'manth x
  12. Thank you! I fear that some of my earlier posts might not make sense, but my expressive freedom is restored! Any suggestions for easy image size reduction or space saving approaches? S'manth x
  13. I fear my memory does not recall, it may be https://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/showlog.php?id=74436 Been FAR too long and my climbing gear was ... consumed by my recent fire Tho I've a couple of excellent bouldering places near me (eg https://www.boulderbrighton.com/) I've never clicked with it! Crazy as the technical skills would serve me well! I LOVE trad, pro is up to me (But I always climb with a well trusted partner!) ... approaching a clean route and leaving it clean is glorious ... not at all a fan of bolted routes, but I know many are! Multi-pitch is my fave! (I fondly recall a 200m route near Geneva about a decade ago!) And I used to have a great rack! Even started SPA instructor training at one point ... but nursing has depleted my budget and energy! S'manth xx
  14. How can I ... ahem ... monitor/reduce my current uploads to allow my free expression in pix to continue!? S'manth xx
  15. However, I seem to be constrained (extremely!!) in image size uploads. I recall being able to load megs but now even a couple of hundred K is denied me! What am I doing wrong!? S'manth xx
  16. Recently blessed to obtain a Hohner 5 string headless, sounds great and is lite enough to not stress my already weakened back! But the range of strings (double ball ended) is ... limited!!! Can anyone suggest a decent replacement for the headend with grubscrews (or something else) that would allow me to use single ball-end strings? S'manth x
  17. You have got to be joking! Can anything be worth this!?!? S'manth x
  18. KISS (I'm not being forward here ... Keep It Sweet & Simple) I've not used multi single pedals, but I hear your experience and it will be taken on board! A unit that is as easy to setup/gig with as dedicated physical pedals ... totally possible !! S'manth xx
  19. I do not have the words to describe how wonderful it is to have broadband access again!

Despite having to tear out what seemed like thousands of feet of redundant wiring, visit my burnt out flat to retrieve an open reach wall socket (OK, force it off the wall with a hammer!) and spend what seemed like hours of watching you-tube to figure out why the blue with white stripes and the white with blue stripes mattered ... I seem to have a connection that has stood up for oh, 12 hours now!

    Praise be!!!

  20. I've given this a lot of thought! I want to support the range of arm based SBCs. I aim to use as much OSS as is possible OS wise I'm leaning towards Arch (which can be configured to be as lightweight as possible) ALSA and JACK seem almost no brainers. I'm leaning towards Carla as a audio host as it seems to support the widest range of plugin technologies available, tho I need to ensure that it will run on ARM Arch linux. UI wise I aim to ensure that the BMFX (Gotta come up with a better name!) will allow full tweaking from knobs/foot switches when gigging, but also allow easy config via a web based UI. My research is ongoing but I hope to have a workable prototype in the next wee while, details will be shared in my build diary. The goal is to build a unit that is intuitive to knob twitchers but also to midi/osc gangsters. We shall see if this is possible! S'manth xx
  21. Oh @Telebass, so sad to hear of your situation. I wonder if you have considered a Ukulele bass, especially the electro acoustic models that are very light weight! Combined with a drummers stool it might perhaps allow you to continue to bash!? S'manth x
