HEADLESS BASS Bridge - Top down tuning system by RIVIERA Gear
SamIAm replied to RIVIERA Gear's topic in Bass Guitars
Having made my own headless tuners in the past (They were functional but not pretty!) I am impressed by this design, it looks very elegant ... and not having a cutaway to allow access to the tuners is very appealing. The tuning knobs remind me a little of the ALP system, but appear more robust. How much of an angle/bend is introduced where the ball end of the string descends into the mechanism? It appears to be almost a right angle, how does this work with heavy guage strings (Like a .130 low B)? Sam x- 13 replies

Owen bought a Plethora X3 from me. Great comms, rapid payment and he's kindly let me know it has arrived ... as smooth as smooth can be! Thanks Owen, hope you enjoy it! Sam x

Damn and blast it ... the one heading to me is from Rockport and on reading the fine details it also does the switch to centre positive ... I'm either going to have to source a polarity reverser thing ... or just chop it midway and resolder in the correct way! Sam x
-
No ... it is not at all clear (IMHO). I'm guessing that some of the older Line6 gear used centre positive, so they seem to have wired the CL6 to reverse polarity! I saw on another site that the CL6 is specced as "CL6 – (5.5x2.1mm barrel input, 5.5x2.5 barrel output; reverse polarity) Green – for Line 6 DL4/M9/etc. and some Eventide pedals." I never would have thought of it! As it happens I've a 2.1mm to 2.5mm adapter on its way to me so I can power my HX Stomp from a normal pedal PSU ... I must check it does not do the polarity reversal also! Sam x

I am not familiar with the 1spot stuff, but if you have a look at this page https://truetone.com/1-spot-accessories/ it seems to say that you need both a CL6 & CYR for the HX FX or HX Stomp ... might this be germane? Sam x

Excellent catch @pslh ... it seems the same author created Toggle_2IN which is described as "Same as the MOD switchbox plugin but switch possible with CV" which might also be suitable. Sam x

A Plethora X3 in excellent conditionfor sale at a massive savings from their new price of around £300! This was bought here on BC to provide extra capability to the physical pedals board I tried; I've now gone down the HX Stomp route so moving this on. The TC Electronic Plethora X3 is a multi-effects pedal that allows you to create custom pedalboards with three slots for your favourite TC pedals. This digital all-in-one pedalboard simulator allows you to save and load up to 127 custom boards with three TonePrint pedals in any order you need. The TonePrint system provides deep customisation and preset loading/storage from your phone. Load presets designed by your favourite guitarists, or dive deeply into any pedal to create the exact effect you need on the Plethora X3. The Plethora X3 offers three footswitches with TC Electronic's MASH technology, allowing you to use each switch as an expression control that you can map to any parameter you'd like. The X3 also provides a chromatic tuner, and a global speaker cab simulator, giving you all the tools you need for a cohesive effects chain for live use or recording directly into an audio interface. The Plethora's three control knobs allow for parameter tweaking, as well as assignable parameter control for you to tweak your sounds as you play. Hook Velcro on bottom (Can be removed as the original rubber feet are still attached); supplied with PSU and original packaging; has been upgraded to latest firmware (1.4.3) and factory reset. £165 Collected from Brighton. UK P&P for an extra £5. Sam x

I stumbled across this rather neat approach to setting up a Morningstar MC6 to drive an HX Stomp ... just waiting for a pair of 5-pin MIDI cables to arrive to see if I've programmed it all correctly! Sam x https://eitanmuir.com/2022/01/03/hx-stomp-mc6-elegance/

After playing with a few setups (Mostly multi-fx but also some single pedals) I've ended up with an HX Stomp/Morningstar MC6/Sonicake Volwah configuration. I had a Stomp a couple of years ago but then sold it on as I wasn't 'getting on' with it, but with two years of learning/discovering what I wanted/needed I recently acquired another (Here on BC of course). Just waiting for a couple of 5-pin MIDI interconnects to get it all setup (And then measured to figure out what to mount it all on) Sam x

I've got a Krisdona power brick and it provides a switchable DC output that can supply 9V@3A (it also has 3 USB ports) so I can drive an HX Stomp&Morningstar MC6 plus whatever else I may add. With 25,000 mAh it lasts hours. Only issue is finding a nice way to mount under a pedalboard. Sam X

I too ended up sending mine back; the timeout on the knob display was annoying but I also found the tuner was a big step backwards from that in the B1Four. Also a step back was that the rhythm and looper each consumed an fx slot (unlike the B1Four where they did not). Sam x

Kim popped down to pick up a bass from me today ... what a great chap! We had a lovely chat about things bass and the transaction could not have gone more smoothly ... thanks Kim! Sam x

Hmmmm ... I wonder if this would work: Using the approach you have for CV, but slightly modified. The Switch Box plugin does not take a CV input, but it does accept a MIDI command. Drop in a couple of 'the infamous mindi' plugins (Which seem to allow CV control) and use them to fire off the pair of MIDI messages you need to flip the switches. Sam x

Portal (Named after the game) is a pair of plugins (Source & Sink) that basically allow the dwarf to spread load across cores. One needs to consider both increased latency and phasing of the 'portaled' signals. I believe it is only in the beta store so cannot share a link. I'm not sure tho if it would be of benefit in the scenario you describe. The dwarf constraint of only letting one midi command control one thing is a major bugbear for me; the CV workarounds can be effective but are such a phaff! And its limit of only supporting 'Learn' a MIDI command (Contrasted to say the HX Stomp's capability to specify or learn) ... yuch! There are some MIDI controllers that can send multiple commands for each footswitch activation; with a bit of config/reconfig during the learning process this could be an solution. Alternatively (And I'm not sure it would work as I've not tried it) you might be able to use MIDI CC Map plugin to achieve similar. https://pedalboards.moddevices.com/plugins/aHR0cDovL2dhcmV1cy5vcmcvb3NzL2x2Mi9taWRpZmlsdGVyI21hcGNj <MD MIDI IN> wired to <MIDI CC Map>. <MIDI CC Map> configured to xlate Command A to Command B. <MD MIDI IN> wired to <Switcher One> which listens for CC Command A. <MIDI CC Map> wired to <Switcher Two> which listens for CC Command B. Edit: I've just thought about another approach that I'm pretty sure would work ... snapshots. Snapshot A is saved with signal through one route, Snapshot B saved when configured to use the other route. Use MIDI PC commands to select snapshot. Only drawback is that you will need two footswitches. (Unless you can configure the switch to send alternative PC messages on each press, some MIDI devices can do this) Sam x

There is a good list of HX Stomp MIDI commands here https://helixhelp.com/tips-and-guides/universal/midi#hx-stomp-hx-stomp-xl (It includes the one you mention) Sam x

A rather fun (and informative) video where Ian Martin Allison rises to the challange of recreating 10 iconic rock basstones using just an HX Stomp ...

Welcome Simon ... BC is a great community! I started playing bass in my 50s and have found it loads of fun Sam x

I just bought the previously mentioned HX Stomp from Paul; I had no qualms based on the glowing feedback here and to be honest could not have asked for a better experience. Great comms, insanely fast delivery and well packed. Thank you Paul! Sam x

I bought a PJB BP-800 (to pair with a C4) for exactly this purpose, very clean neutral sound with line in/out and fx send/return. Sam x

I made one from a 2x4 so I concur it's not all that hard (Tho it was fretless without a truss rod ... but sounded fab!) BTW, those Nova tuners (You lucky chap!) I bought a set of five for my next bass ... which at present might not be completed till 2040! Sam x
