1. I tried to fit a 15" McKenzie in my Hartke Kickback and it was too big. WRT speaker impedance
Hey Pete, The Kickback amplifiers are designed to work with the internal 6 ohm speaker for maximum output. The amplfier says 8ohms because we don't want people hooking them up to 4 ohm speakers. I'll check on the nomenclature in the manual etc. but no worries we make thousands of the Kickbacks and they are workhorses and extremely reliable. Enjoy! Larry Hartke / Special Operations Hartke Systems
Had my Kickback 14 years now, use it for smaller gigs and as jam night backline, and a reliable workhorse it certainly is.
2. Big difference in price compared to RS cabs, eg. G.A.K. - K210 = £315, RS210 = £469
3. In 1973 I bought a Gibson EB3 from a local music shop that had not been in business long. He never had one in stock so rang Selmer, who sent one up the next day on which I paid for the delivery. The bass cost me £240. My brother who worked in the shop later showed me the invoice which was for £144. Not a bad profit for a phone call. Not long after the shop owner was driving around in a Rolls Royce.
4. Fuses can get tired after a while and just blow.
5. "Discoverdoublebass.com" Ok, cheers for that. I will give it a better look at tomorrow. I will enquire at the Jam night tonight of anyone giving lessons.
6. Well the bass arrived yesterday and what a piece of kit it is, especially for £218. I had a plonk on it, (I have never tried one before), and realised my technique is all wrong. I am trying to play it like a bass guitar. I have lowered the bridge and sorted the endpin rattle and have been looking at a few youtube lessons for tips. My left arm is now aching from holding it up. Since retiring a few years ago I have lost my arm strength through doing F' all so will have to eat more Shredded Wheat. Anyway I am quite pleased with my purchase and with a couple of hours a day practice I hope to get better at it. It is not suitable for anything I play in my band but I do a jam night and am looking to be using it in that. Oh yes, where can I find the tab for Moondance....

9. Just joined the club. Ordered the "Deluxe" version from Amazon, £218.00, for that price I didn't mind paying the extra £8.00 to have it delivered on Tuesday.
10. At a Melody Maker BOTB type thingy in the 70s, they had Miles Platting amplifiers for the backline, had to link two stacks together with everything up to 11 to get any volume out of them.
11. A voice we will not hear the likes of again. Rest in peace Joe.
12. There was also this theft a few days ago too... Raymond Froggatt Band theft
13. I think it was just the last few years of USA production that they changed over to OSB (Oriented Strand Board) for their cabinets. Although the catalogue at the time I got my 610AV in 2006 said Baltic Birch Ply, on looking inside (as you do) I discovered it was OSB. Have not found it to be an issue tho'. I think when it went to the far east they resumed the ply construction. I did hear in the Marshall factory tour video that I watched last week (youtube) that the guy said they used OSB on their large bass cabs for some specific reason but didn't quite hear what it was.
14. Found this on Warwick forum
I have a Warwick owners manual from 2000(I think) and it lists the frequencies as 2KHz & 100Hz for the 2 band and 8.5KHz,800Hz & 100Hz for the 3 band.
I have a Warwick 97/98 brochure that lists the treble @ 8KHz. No figure for bass or mid. Having both 2 and 3 band eq'd Warwicks I find the treble @ 8KHz has no real effect.
15.
None - it's a cartoon.
What, they're not real Americans?
16. I have regularly seen the fifth string being used only as a thumb rest.
17. Virgin bolocked it for me too
18. Last week at a regular small pub gig I was using my Hartke Kickback15 combo. From the moment I switched on and played through it it did not sound right. A thin nasaly tone (like what you my think from a tin speaker) no bass or warmth. No amount of twiddling the knobs could get the sound I normally get from it. Adding more bass was just making it distort. I just had to play with a crap sound and get the gig over. I checked it over the next morning and could find nothing wrong, tried it and it sounded ok. I was scratching my head wondering what had it been. I was using the combo during the week and it was really pumping as it always had done and I was thinking why did it sound so different the last time. It has now just dawned on me, I had used my home made "Gramma Pad" where I had not used it previously. It had been in the back of the car and I just automatically picked it up and took it in. This platform has always done just what it is supposed to do on a boomy box stage, would it have had an adverse effect on the solid floor of the pub. I will try the "with and without" test the next time I am there.
19. Ahh... I thought you were after an amp tech in the Bogner Regis area.
20. There is a venue/pub near Ellesmere Port where I have played (not for a while now tho') that has a cupboard at the side of the stage with 3 twin sockets, one on each phase, and a note asking bands to spread the load, ie, lights, pa and backline. No warning of 400v.
21. It could be the label is indicating that there is 400v between the sockets as they are on different phases. They should not then be within arms reach (no less than 6 feet) of each other but long leads throws all that out of the window. Just make sure your own equipment is up to scratch as any problems will have a greater effect. You could lessen any problem by plugging everything in to one socket but then that will be down to the load you are drawing.
22. Some self certified spark with a B&Q card may have installed it to run some 400v 2 phase welding equipment from it. A 13A socket certainly does not comply even if it has got a warning sticker on. Do not use it before testing the actual supply voltage.
23. I have a Thumb Bass with a 2 band circuit, bass and treble controls have a definite usable effect. I was trying out a used later model with 3 band electronics and the treble control appeared not to be working. I bought the bass as it was a good price and thought the problem may be an easy fix. Turned out there was nothing wrong with it but it worked at a higher band than that on the two way and on my amp settings I have this frequency cut so turning it had no effect. I prefer the 2 band circuit.
24. Obiviously something had slipped and as it all looked fine afterwards it is possible that the ball end may not have been seated properly in the bridge to start with.
25.
I would say that you problem is the excessive number of winds on the tuner.
I think he is saying it took him 5 or 6 turns on the tuner to bring the string back into tune, not 5 or 6 winds around the string post.
