I never had much success with mine. Came with the magnets in the wrong orientation... slightly wider string spacing... although it had the same dc resistance as a Gibson mudbucker it did not have that sound.
Update.
A couple of weeks back I helped someone on TB in regards to removing the circuit board from this amp as he wanted to change the input jack socket. It had me thinking that mine is 20 years old and a new socket would not go amiss and I would give the board a fresh look at finding the fault.
On removing the old jack socket I noticed this....
I have used it since at an outside event and it performed flawlessly.
I don't like the fingernail click either, it even puts me off my playing as I try to pluck differently to eliminate it.
I try to remember to carry nail clippers but there have been times I have ground my nails down on the brick wall outside the gig.
I can get my Warwick Thumb Bass in a gig bag in my MX5 boot and with the passenger seat removed, a Hartke Kickback 15 combo or TCE RS212 + small head, a fold up trolley and my leads bag inside.
It's also a good excuse to not give lifts.
My '91 Thumb has the removable rod and the opposite to normal adjustment.
I did have to remove it and put it back reversed so tensioning it put some relief in the neck.
I checked mine some while back (original Gibson) and they both face the same way on to the central yolk.
I assume this is to induce the same magnetic polarity in the central pole pieces.
When I first heard about the Epi Elite EB3 I couldn't find anywhere stocking them. I phoned Rosetti who were the UK Epi importer at the time and they said they only got 4 and were expecting no more as they were discontinued and told me what shops they had gone to but when I called they were all sold. I called some USA shops and Music 123 said they could get one for me. Oddly it is the earlier 'Elite' model, for legal reasons they had to be renamed 'Elitist'. Maybe it was from recalled stock they were not allowed to sell locally.
I was disappointed with the Artec mudbucker I had. Even though it measured 30kΩ and had 4 magnets it in no way had the same output power and depth of my original Gibson mudbucker. It was more akin to the Epiphone.
I love my Epi Elite for all the reasons you have stated, I have also fitted an original Gibson mudbucker.
The Babicz bridge helps with better intonation and string height.
I found the Artec mudbucker similar in output to the Epi mudbucker. Some have the magnets in the wrong orientation and the polepieces are wider spaced than the Gibson.
