By "Chapman" tuning I assume you mean the "Classic" 10 string tuning (five melody strings in descending 4ths and five bass strings in ascending 5ths). THIS Your best bet is to get in touch with Krappy & find out what they recommend.
Indeed I shall, thanks Rhys.

I've taken the leap into touchstyle with a 10 string Krappy. I'm currently looking at getting new strings for it. It's in Chapman tuning (which in itself confusing at first, but I think my brain is getting used to it). Anyone give me any ideas on strings, or at least gauges, as I can't find anything on t'internet other than Möbius site. Looking forward to making some horrid noises, and calling it prog jazz :-)
Do you still have the original chrome tuners too? thanks man, really great looking guitar. did you relic it yourself?
Hi, No I'm afraid the original tuners weren't too stable, so I got rid of them. I bought black wilkinsons as I preferred the look of black. The "relic" work was already done when I bought it. Thanks, John

Roland KR 55 keyboard. 76 keys, midi in, out ,and through. Touch sensitive, but not weighted. Comes with brand new kwik lock stand, Roland pedal, PSU and hard case. It recently had new contacts fitted. Has internal speakers, so can be played without an amp. Simple sounds, piano, elec piano, etc. Selling as I've bought something else and need to raise some pennies. No postage as this is very heavy. It's located in north Dorset, but can meet up along M3 to Basingstoke, or down to Bournemouth, or up to Bristol. £70

SOLD SOLD SOLD This is a Squire Telecaster, fitted with Baja 4 position pickup selector and S1 switch. The body has had some relic work done, and a Fender logo applied to headstock. I had some new black machineheads and new bridge/saddle fitted, when I had it set up. The holes where the previous tuners are still visible, but do no affect the structure. It's currently fitted with DR Blackbeauties strings 9's (I think). It's a lovely guitar to play, and the Baja system really open up the tonal options. Would rather not sell this, but I've bought something I've been after for a long time, so selling some bits. Guitar is in north Dorset, so you're welcome to come and try it. Say £200, plus £20 postage if you want it sent?

Bassist wanted: Covers/functions band Aberdeenshire
oldslapper replied to thomasw88's topic in Bassists Wanted
Just to say Tom is a great guy to work with, and has top notch gear. His band set list is more interesting than usual fare, but still keeps the punters rocking. Good luck Tom, John -

I have a very old beaten up ply, which has quite a big sound anyway. The Prestos give a gut type thump, with a nice articulate boom, to my particular old girl. I've not tried slapping her, and my technique isn't great for that, so I can't comment on how they sound/feel for slapping. John

Thanks again fellas. I'll check out the Krivo information too. Bob, thanks for the offer of a try out. I'll drop you a PM if that's ok? Yes the Prestos surprised me too, particularly the tuning stability and even volume/tone. Cheers, John

Brilliant, I've just sent him an email. http://www.mpenning-luthier.co.uk/Martin_Penning_Luthier/contact.html Thanks.
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me!
I thought so too! Let me know when you're nearby and I'll pop over with the cash. Alternatively if you get the chance, or time/material to courier the cab, then I'd be interested in this :-) John
i have a romberg bevel too and the kent armstrong was measured to fit. however they made it wrong so doesnt really have correct shape at all. doesnt matter tho as all 4 pole pieces are adjustable for height so you can get an even sound across the strings with a bit of allen key experimentation. i would say go for it, even if the string spacing is wildly different you can compensate by bringing pole piece closer etc.
Thanks for this reply, very helpful. Just a question on the KA sound. I've had a Schaller mag fitted to this bass in the past, and although I was happy with the sound, it lost a lot of the tone of the bass itself. Can you describe the general voicing of the KA? Probably difficult to say I know, Some say the Schaller makes the DB just sound like a fretless P, I'm not sure I completely agree with that assessment, but I understand why that would be said. If the KA has the same result, then I'll stick with my piezo for live and mic for recording. Thanks BIMF John

I love my Prestos, but have never used them with a magnetic, would like to hear what they sound like. I did a recording gig last night and the bass with the Prestos sounds at its best mic'd obviously. Live it sounds nice with the piezo, using a DHA eq, but just occasionally I wonder how a mag would fair? Are you selling the KA Bob, or loaning it out? I'd be interested in either option. The only problem is I have a Romberg bevel board, and the KA might not "fit" Cheers, John

Im looking at getting my old DB "serviced" by a DB specialist. It doesn't need repairing, just a set up and perhaps the sound post adjusted. Before I do the inevitable google search, does anyone have any recommendations near to Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire areas please? Thanks. John

Tuition - what was your approach to learning
oldslapper replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
... but it always seems to get put to the bottom of the list of essential purchases.
It depends on why you'd want lessons I guess, and as you rightly point out, if they can be financially justified/prioritised or pushed up the list of priorities. Were your experiences of lessons good? If you went for a lesson today, would you know what it is you are trying to achieve, or improve? That's often helpful for both student and tutor. I've had lessons from 4 teachers, and they all had differing approaches. I know now which approach helps me most. I view any financial outlay as much about the period in between face to face contact as the 60 minute lesson itself. -

I've played the 4 string version for a number of years and have owned the 5 string version. Terrific basses, well constructed, fab necks and the Pre amp offers a huge tonal pallet. Excellent value for money. Best wishes with the sale, someone will be pleasantly surprised when they take possession of this.
