Thanks again fellas. I'll check out the Krivo information too. Bob, thanks for the offer of a try out. I'll drop you a PM if that's ok? Yes the Prestos surprised me too, particularly the tuning stability and even volume/tone. Cheers, John

Brilliant, I've just sent him an email. http://www.mpenning-luthier.co.uk/Martin_Penning_Luthier/contact.html Thanks.
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me!
I thought so too! Let me know when you're nearby and I'll pop over with the cash. Alternatively if you get the chance, or time/material to courier the cab, then I'd be interested in this :-) John
i have a romberg bevel too and the kent armstrong was measured to fit. however they made it wrong so doesnt really have correct shape at all. doesnt matter tho as all 4 pole pieces are adjustable for height so you can get an even sound across the strings with a bit of allen key experimentation. i would say go for it, even if the string spacing is wildly different you can compensate by bringing pole piece closer etc.
Thanks for this reply, very helpful. Just a question on the KA sound. I've had a Schaller mag fitted to this bass in the past, and although I was happy with the sound, it lost a lot of the tone of the bass itself. Can you describe the general voicing of the KA? Probably difficult to say I know, Some say the Schaller makes the DB just sound like a fretless P, I'm not sure I completely agree with that assessment, but I understand why that would be said. If the KA has the same result, then I'll stick with my piezo for live and mic for recording. Thanks BIMF John

I love my Prestos, but have never used them with a magnetic, would like to hear what they sound like. I did a recording gig last night and the bass with the Prestos sounds at its best mic'd obviously. Live it sounds nice with the piezo, using a DHA eq, but just occasionally I wonder how a mag would fair? Are you selling the KA Bob, or loaning it out? I'd be interested in either option. The only problem is I have a Romberg bevel board, and the KA might not "fit" Cheers, John

Im looking at getting my old DB "serviced" by a DB specialist. It doesn't need repairing, just a set up and perhaps the sound post adjusted. Before I do the inevitable google search, does anyone have any recommendations near to Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire areas please? Thanks. John

Tuition - what was your approach to learning
oldslapper replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
... but it always seems to get put to the bottom of the list of essential purchases.
It depends on why you'd want lessons I guess, and as you rightly point out, if they can be financially justified/prioritised or pushed up the list of priorities. Were your experiences of lessons good? If you went for a lesson today, would you know what it is you are trying to achieve, or improve? That's often helpful for both student and tutor. I've had lessons from 4 teachers, and they all had differing approaches. I know now which approach helps me most. I view any financial outlay as much about the period in between face to face contact as the 60 minute lesson itself. -

I've played the 4 string version for a number of years and have owned the 5 string version. Terrific basses, well constructed, fab necks and the Pre amp offers a huge tonal pallet. Excellent value for money. Best wishes with the sale, someone will be pleasantly surprised when they take possession of this.
Going to drop the price to £250. Someone come and try this great amp!
So don't need an amp, but always fancied one of these. Does this version go down to 2 ohm? Might be an opportunity to change my gear around whilst not doing many gigs.

LMII came out of Markbass combo that had a tube head put in, the combo head was resleeved by Proel under warranty. 300 watt @ 8 ohm, 500 @ 4 ohm The amp has been well looked after. It's in excellent condition and comes in an excellent lap top bag and a Speakon lead. TC Electronics RS212 cab 8 ohm, comes with TC cover. Great cab that is in great condition, has some marks on bottom due to TC oversight of not fitting feet, and small dings on back (see pics). These two togther offers a powerful, flexible and transportable rig. I've used it at festivals, and small club gigs, with double bass and leccy bass. Always gets good comments on tone and power. £575 for a quality rig seems reasonable to me. No postage, I have nothing to box it in. I'm happy to meet up around Bristol, Bournemouth, Basingstoke, Exeter for a deal. Or you're welcome at my place for a cuppa and a chinwag.

Guitarist changing patches on his pedal board to get "the tone" Guitarist changing guitar in between songs to get "the tone" Guitarist tuning up in between songs... .......Bass player changing guitarists face in between songs All these things have emptied dance floors in my experience, very rarely a song though.
