Afternoon you lovely people. I am needing to replace a barrel jack in an active bass. Is there specific type one needs for active circuitry? Or is a standard mono one sufficient? Thanks for any advice you can offer. John

Where is the best place to find a band of session work ?
oldslapper replied to fiatcoupe432's topic in General Discussion
Glad to hear you’re recovering btw! Get your “online” presence out there. Videos of yourself playing, something about yourself, links to any music/videos you’d be happy for others to view (and you have permission to share) then put it all on YouTube, FB, Instagram, etc. with # to genre/location/etc. The drummer I’ve worked with most over the past few years did exactly that. She videoed herself doing some covers, with fairly lights on her kit (that was her only gimmick). The Darkness were forwarded a link of her cover of one of their songs, they liked her playing, and she ended up touring and recording with them, and now is incredibly busy. Self promotion, using social media is now the “postcard in a guitar shop” or ad in melody maker. Best of luck. -
I don’t have Sky. How do I watch this? Can anyone show me the …. No? Ok…

Flats are going to save the planet... it's true!

I just thought round wounds ended up as sink drain cleaners when they died. -
I’ve been offered a Gnome, so sale only £150 for a great amp in great condition housed in a brand new rack case. Fab Amp, flexible tonal shaping, 400 watts at 4ohm, built to last and housed in a new 2U rack deep case. Would keep this but the EA cab is so much lighter I’ve decided to go for a lightweight amp too as I only use it at home. My “big rig” needs are met through other means. Solid-state with 400W @ 4 ohms. This is a great amp: quiet, powerful, and very adjustable. 3-way switches for low, mids, and high settings of cut, flat, and boost plus parametric filter settings for mid boost/cut and high cut. An 8-band graphic with switchable bypass offers further tone tweaking. There's a 3-way switch for limiter on, on-with-graphic, and off. Phone jack out. DI out, switchable pre/post. The rear panel gives you a groundlift, tuner out, line out (post master), effects loop, footswitch for graphic on/off. Speaker outs include one XLR and one Speakon. Fan cooling. Full protection. Very adjustable and set flat, it has a strong, smooth, transparent clean sound. Happy to meet up within a reasonable pre arranged distance, or pop over for a try out. No postage at this stage, sorry. cash is also good.

The only concern I have about the WL20 is that reviews state that they’re suited for passive pickups, not active and I swap between active and passive. Do you guys use both/either? Thanks. John

This is an interesting thread as I’ve been toying with wireless for a series of gigs with a couple of bands over the next 6 months or so. Mostly uk theatres but also Northern Europe. I don’t use pedals and use active Stingray and passive Ps. None of the rest of the band use wireless except IEM for bvs in one band. I’ve heard the argument for spending out for the top range kit, and also some of you have been happy with £50 jobs. I’ll be playing maximum 12 shows and likely to drop out in the new year to concentrate on my duo writing project, which rarely gigs. So not sure I can justify top dollar as I don’t gig like many of you do here. Im wondering about Smooth Hound or Boss? Thoughts?

There are hundreds. But one I haven’t played for ages, but love, is “I will survive”…… yes THAT one.

TBF The song is a remake of the original 80’s recording. There must have been a lot of it about back then 😂

Guitarists... why are they such knackers
oldslapper replied to spacecowboy's topic in General Discussion
I’m in two bands. Both have exact same personnel except for the drummers. So it’s really one band but we play for 2 different artists. Makes it a lot easier and everyone is fab. The guitarist learns his parts and is better prepared than everyone most of the time. Makes such a difference. If he was a dik I’d be asking him to move on. -
