1. Krappys 10 string Stick/touchstyle/tapper. Since getting this I have added the following to the instrument. New strings as per gauge recommended by kevin, a gig bag, a new strap, 2 splitter leads for the 2 pickup inputs, dot markers marking the Chapman Stick intervals, and a Behringer X V amp pedal (boxed and PSU) so you can make pretty noises on the treble pickup. I'll also include a sheet with Scale, chord and arpeggio diagrams so you can get playing. There are some extra dot markers so you can place them where you'd rather have them. Here's a link to Krappys web site http://www.krappyguitars.com/touchstyle.html Kevin doesn't claim to make sleek exotic instruments, so it's no Fodera in its finish. They are quirky, but functional, and they seem very popular over in the USA. This was made for the original owner to spec and the sound is great. There is at least one other Krappy owner in uk on BC who waxes lyrical about his. I paid £350 for the instrument alone, collected. I'll post this with all the above extras for £299 as I've pulled the trigger on summat else. John
2. That is the coolest bass I've seen for a while. Action looks like you'll need to get a bus to the fretboard, so probably not suitable for a beginner. But, worth a punt Ash, even if you need to do some work on the truss rod, which may be fine anyway! John
3. Thanks Spike, I've signed up to cafesaxaphone, as per your recommendation, seems quite friendly place. John
4. Ok, managed to get info from Kevin on gauges. He also sent me some scale, diatonic modes and chord diagrams when he realised I was a noobie! What a nice fella. Bought some new strings, and have put them on. Need to tweak truss rod a bit to get a flatter board, but it's ok. I'm approaching this as a completely different instrument, so it's going to be an interesting journey. I may post a "(slow) progress video blog"....or post it in the for sale section, depending how frustrated I get!
5. Hi, I posted a for sale thread in "other items" in for sale section a week or two back http://basschat.co.uk/topic/184700-2-alto-saxaphones-1-x-selmer-cigarcutter-and-a-clarinet-for-sale/page__hl__saxaphones__fromsearch__1 for a friend, but just wondered if anyone here can recommend a sax chat type forum...."sax chat line"? that I could post these to? I've tried one, but I had to post a minimum number of posts before placing an add......understandable, but what do I chat about? I know nothing about saxes.....but then again I know nothing about bass, but I'm managed to post loads of crap here. Thanks for any help,
6. SOLD 3 month old, boxed X V Amp pedal, PSU, etc. Spec http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/LX1-X.aspx £25 posted
7.
By "Chapman" tuning I assume you mean the "Classic" 10 string tuning (five melody strings in descending 4ths and five bass strings in ascending 5ths). THIS Your best bet is to get in touch with Krappy & find out what they recommend.
Indeed I shall, thanks Rhys.
8. I've taken the leap into touchstyle with a 10 string Krappy. I'm currently looking at getting new strings for it. It's in Chapman tuning (which in itself confusing at first, but I think my brain is getting used to it). Anyone give me any ideas on strings, or at least gauges, as I can't find anything on t'internet other than Möbius site. Looking forward to making some horrid noises, and calling it prog jazz :-)
9. Nice job on that Dave. The contouring was something I had discussed with my local luthier to make it a wee bit more comfy and reduce a bit of weight and the string thru'. The B string on this was always very good too. John
10.
Do you still have the original chrome tuners too? thanks man, really great looking guitar. did you relic it yourself?
Hi, No I'm afraid the original tuners weren't too stable, so I got rid of them. I bought black wilkinsons as I preferred the look of black. The "relic" work was already done when I bought it. Thanks, John
11.
I don't know why, but I love this! Though I can only offer trades as I've just put a deposit down on a custom 7 string bass.
It is a fab guitar. I'm needing the money so open to reasonable offers.
12. Roland KR 55 keyboard. 76 keys, midi in, out ,and through. Touch sensitive, but not weighted. Comes with brand new kwik lock stand, Roland pedal, PSU and hard case. It recently had new contacts fitted. Has internal speakers, so can be played without an amp. Simple sounds, piano, elec piano, etc. Selling as I've bought something else and need to raise some pennies. No postage as this is very heavy. It's located in north Dorset, but can meet up along M3 to Basingstoke, or down to Bournemouth, or up to Bristol. £70
13. SOLD SOLD SOLD This is a Squire Telecaster, fitted with Baja 4 position pickup selector and S1 switch. The body has had some relic work done, and a Fender logo applied to headstock. I had some new black machineheads and new bridge/saddle fitted, when I had it set up. The holes where the previous tuners are still visible, but do no affect the structure. It's currently fitted with DR Blackbeauties strings 9's (I think). It's a lovely guitar to play, and the Baja system really open up the tonal options. Would rather not sell this, but I've bought something I've been after for a long time, so selling some bits. Guitar is in north Dorset, so you're welcome to come and try it. Say £200, plus £20 postage if you want it sent?
14. Just to say Tom is a great guy to work with, and has top notch gear. His band set list is more interesting than usual fare, but still keeps the punters rocking. Good luck Tom, John
15. Pm'd ref touchstyle.
16. I have a very old beaten up ply, which has quite a big sound anyway. The Prestos give a gut type thump, with a nice articulate boom, to my particular old girl. I've not tried slapping her, and my technique isn't great for that, so I can't comment on how they sound/feel for slapping. John
17. Thanks again fellas. I'll check out the Krivo information too. Bob, thanks for the offer of a try out. I'll drop you a PM if that's ok? Yes the Prestos surprised me too, particularly the tuning stability and even volume/tone. Cheers, John
18. Brilliant, I've just sent him an email. http://www.mpenning-luthier.co.uk/Martin_Penning_Luthier/contact.html Thanks.
19.
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me!
I thought so too! Let me know when you're nearby and I'll pop over with the cash. Alternatively if you get the chance, or time/material to courier the cab, then I'd be interested in this :-) John
20. Would you mind moving to Dorset for a couple of days, I can buy this, then you move back East.??
