1. Power was cut off after 3 songs, and the duke box put on. Reason? We were crap......I was 15, it was my first gig.
 2.
I don't think any of this is what our resident 'enigma wrapped in a riddle inside a mystery' was trying to say. My understanding of his proposition is as follows:

In that there is wide agreement that one's technique and basslines should be servant to the song, not the other way round...
...and that is widely held that playing 'too much' is as deleterious to a song as playing 'too little'
Acclaim seems to be reserved for examples of bass playing which would - in many instances and through their orotund complexity - be contextually inimical to a harmonious and holistic ensemble performance
Given statements 1 and 2, it is paradoxical (and possibly counter-productive) that do we not applaud the intentionally crafted understatement as much as we praise the (sometimes) unrestrained overstatement
Simplicity is undervalued. How odd.
Not much to disagree with there, IMO. Uncontroversial, perhaps. Of course, I could be labouring under a complete misapprehension, given the gnomic nature of many of The Great Man's pronouncements. I shall ask him more on my next trip to Lhasa. .
Easy for you to say.......
 3.
Me, i love a nice chop from a bassist (read any muso) if it is context. I haven't seen this word used yet in this thread which surprises me a bit. Chops/licks are the easy part - its knowing when to play them in context that is the tricky part and is usually the result of experience.
Post #35 Mr. Bottom, post #35....we agree sir!
 4.
Mark King drives the song with his face up agains the windscreen, while Adam Clayton simply, and admirably; supports it. BTW one of may favourite songs to play live is Duffy's 'Mercy'. Muted strings, thumb and first finger plucks..so simple, but the muting accentuates the importance of keeping it tighter than tight. Love it.
Indeed, nice and contextual to the song and style of arrangement/ production. Getting back to Nigel's question, is what the level 42's bass player is playing, with his face up against the screen driving the song, tasteful and contextual to the songs? Likewise mr U2? I have no liking for either bands material, but on the whole IMUO, I would suggest that they are both tasteful as they appear to be contextual. I often have to put aside personal taste, or predjudice, in order to appreciate a bass part that fits the song. But then again, I have no taste and have too many predjudices.
 5. Serve the song.........does the bass line serve the song? I would take a hazardous guess that, no matter how lauded a bass player me be here or any other bass site, there will be a song they have played on where their bass playing hasn't served the song.....even (insert your name here). Can't stand Level 42, but their bass player seems to serve their songs with his approach.....mostly? Can't stand U2, but their man on bass seems to do the same, serve the song that is.......mostly? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they appear to have slightly different techniques from one another. Whatever..........
 6.
GET THEE BEHIND ME SATAN!!!!
AND TELL ME IF ANYONE'S LOOKING...? :-)
 7. I had this and the 1x15 cab with a yorville head. Regret selling them , very solid built kit.
 8. London to Manchester, BBC radio one session. 1 song! Which was a single at the time. That was back in the 80's when I was young and had loads of energy. Now I'll only go out once ive had my tea, and if I'm guaranteed back in time for news at 10! Don't get as much work these days.....?!
 9. They are essentially the same as HighBeams, so are bright-ish. The Bootzilla coated string are a little warmer as they are coated LowRiders. I like BlackBeauties, nice all round string. But, you can't beat flats for a good "vintage thump". As others have and will undoubtedly say, tone is found through a myriad of places e.g. Tone controls, fingers/plectrum use and position, pickup selection, cabs, venue, ear wax, quality of wine drunk that night, hair length, alignment of planets, etc.
 10.
After the informations that have been provided by a great bc member, this isn't the first time that sean dealt with that kind of style. One bc member told me of a deal where sean tried to fool him with the amount of money he handed over. Additional to this, he sold car parts/items, took the money but didn't ship the sold items..so this one is a parallel story. Seems that i bought a bass from the wrong guy
What a scrote.
 11. Can anyone I.D. this preamp I removed from a bass? Can't see any name, number, etc as an identifying mark. Just curious. Ta, John
 12. Great! Although its the chase that's more addictive than the item itself.....so I hear....?! I'd now get someone in your house to change your basschat and eBay passwords and get Gumtree filtered on your firewall! Just as a matter of interest do you use your ABM and neo 15 with your upright? Just curious as I've got an Ashdown 15 with a neo fitted and I'm so surprised at how tight it sounded with my DB. I usually use 8's or a 12. Enjoy your new rig, John
 13. Stuart sold me a lovely ibby project bass, arrived when he said it would well wrapped up. True gent, Thanks, John
 14. Nothing to see here....move along now please.
 15.
This is a shame, i've dealt with Sean in the past & everything went flawlessly. Hope this gets resolved.
Yeah, a couple of people have said that. Seems to make it worse as he clearly knows how to carry out satisfactory transaction, and yet 73jazz gets dicked around.
 16.
This man speaks sense!
Sometimes. I'd have this Jon, but I'm awaiting delivery this week of two 80's Jap basses and a Shergold Marathon. I've gone all soft for basses from my youth.
 17. Please! Someone buy this soon, it's killing me seeing this still for sale. :-)
 18. Waaaaaaah....! Ebony board? Simply the best Jazz bass I ever owned....where's £500 when you need it?
 19.
Ugh, pure cheese. I don't get the James Taylor thing. Americans love that brand of mush. Makes for a very dull song, IMO
I don't think this was supposed to be a critique of the song, genre, artist....... To the OP, yup music is great for reflecting, or changing how we feel. Mr Taylor writes a good lyric too.
 20. Have you tried to "scroll down" using 2 fingers on the message box which, as you rightly say, is hidden at the top left of the screen. Scrolling down reveals the "send a message" button. Then it opens up onto the whole screen.
 21.
If i did get a 4x8 and a 1x15 mini could i link these together to get the 4ohm power out of the amp? Thanks
Yes.
 22. Welcome back to bass! You might find it possible to get a used 1x12 aguillar, or Epifani PS cab for £200 on here, but unlikely to find a bergantino. I've used Epifani, Ampeg, Ashdown, BFM and Markbass cabs with my LMII heads. I can honestly say that with the amount of tonal/eq flexibility the LM offers, I've found it impossible not to get a tone I like with any cab, but then again my ears aren't as sensitive as they were. At the moment I'm enjoying an LMII with a pair of Ashdown mini cabs (4x8 and 1x15). You can pick one of those up on here for under £200, or for not much more, a pair. Don't where you are located, but you might find a fellow BC member or two will let you try your head with a different cab or two? Certainly welcome to have a blast at castle oldslapoer. John
 23. Line 6 Pocket Pod, owned from new. Used at home for some guitar teaching only. I don't have a PSU to go with it as I used one from another pedal. It runs perfectly well on batteries. I don't know if I've still got the box, so sold as the unit only. If I find the box, I'll include it. Pics up later. This is what they are, in the mean time. http://www.dv247.com/guitars/line-6-pocket-pod-guitar-amp-and-fx-simulator--43352 John
 24.
Is that and/or? It'd be the Shergold every time for me!
I decided to take the Shergold Stu.
