So had some EMG PJ pups installed and, following EMG website http://www.emgpickups.com/content/wiringdiagrams/PJ_models.pdf paragraph 3 state that 25k pots are to be used. So go to get the bass from the tech who installed the pups and pots and he shows me a problem. The separate volume pots don't silence the pups when wound down, there's just a slight drop in volume. So pups on all the time, also no discernable change in tone when using tone pot. Now, all pots are good quality, the tone cap is PIO. And the wiring is done carefully and to the diagram. Bizarrely when the battery is taken out, the volume pots work still, albeit at very low volume. The tech is at a loss, but suggested that 250k pots would have been a better option. I was advised to get 250k pots beforehand by a fine gentleman of this parish, but I refused saying that EMG should know what they're doing surely? Any clues? thanks, John

These have all come off basses I've bought, as I always put a new set of my preferred brand and gauge on. So not sure what make or gauge these are, but I would hazard a guess at 45's for most. They are all clean and useable, some hardly used. I've taken each set out of their packets and lined them up against my P bass, so as to gauge the lengths their cut for and have put what I consider to be the headstock they would fit. 2 sets of 4 string roundwound 1 set 4 string flats 1 set of 5 string roundwound 1 set of 5 string flatwounds ( probably Ernie Ball 45-130's and only on a bass for a day, not gigged or rehearsed) 1 DR B string roundwound. 5 string rounds cut 4&1 DR B string 5 string flats cut 4&1 4 string flats cut 2&2 4 string rounds cut 2&2 4 string rounds cut 4 in line. To be honest I'm not sure about price, so I'd rather get rid of them in sets of:- 2x5 string sets and the spare B string @ £30 posted 2x4 string sets flat and round (2&2 cut) @ £15 posted 1x4 string set 4 in line, rounds @ £7.50 posted. Or whole lot £45 posted. Any questions, ask Jeeves. John John.

Welcome to the lovely county of Dorset. I'll put you in touch with some musicians in the area if you like? Great jazz drummer and guitarist in Sherborne who'd be interested I'm sure. John -
Includes case too. Seems a good price.
I have had these excuses... "I really fancy a curry this week...shall we all do that instead?" I WANT TO BE IN A BAND WITH THAT PERSON "I don't have any drum sticks." FAR MORE CONSTRUCTIVE REHEARSAL WAS HAD BY WHOLE BAND? "I ran out of weed and I had to sell my guitar." HOW MUCH WEED DO THEY SMOKE?
If you use 2 fingers and scroll down, you'll find "use full editor" press that button and the message will become full screen, as normal, and you can then compose a message. John

Unlined fretless only mate, otherwise it's cheating apparently.

Sometimes it's nobodies "fault" that lessons don't work out. I've picked up business from perfectly good tutors, due to all sorts of reasons, some of which will include "personality", or communication style, etc. I have also "lost" business to others for the same reasons. Some tutors are "rigid" and systematic in their approach, others are less so, some students respond to structure, others don't. I believe the trick is to listen to the student and ask questions, until you are satisfied that you have some grasp of their wants and needs and learning style. The students responsibility is to communicate what they want from lessons (even if that means something vague like "I don't know, I'm just bored with what I do"). It's also a students responsibility to ask questions throughout a lesson, particularly if they don't understand what you're trying to communicate. If the tutor in question didn't ask you any questions and just played his bass AT you, then criticised your playing, then that's pretty unhelpful to you. If you didn't ask him any questions to clarify, or didn't challenge him, then that's unhelpful to him and you. Beware of the tutor that: - Doesn't listen to you. Doesn't ask questions. Noodles on their guitar whilst your talking. Shows off their chops to impress you. Talks about themselves endlessly. Gets arsey if you don't understand what they are trying to communicate. Doesn't challenge you once in a while (in a way that doesn't belittle you). Is not actively looking to improve their own musicianship. Is on the SOR! One last thing, you're not only investing in the 30-60 minutes you spend in the lesson, it's the days in between that are just as important. It's boring to say but, it's a waste of your money if you don't practice what you've been set. And that doesn't mean a 2 hour "cram" the night before. It also becomes very boring for you and the tutor if you're going over the same thing in a lesson week after week because you haven't bothered to practice in between. None of the above is aimed at the OP, just a general brain fart. And lots more stuff that people have already said an will say.. Probably all b@*#s, but it's helped me. And I'm sure Dood is the dude as he has a good rep here, enjoy! Bye, off to school now.
