1. Oooh the snow has settled....
 2. Not suggesting that a drummer with a huge kit can't be good mind. But you have to be good to "work" a small kit. I couldn't possibly use the same adage about us bass players of course....;-)
 3. You can always tell how good a drummer is by the number of drums in their kit..... That fella was super.......oooh it's snowing.
 4. How funny! Last night I tried my Baja Tele through my LMII and mini 48 cab and loved it. I was going to post a new topic.....but... The tone shaping needed a bit of tweaking, but it gave the Tele some lovely rich tones, great for jazz melodies and funk/soul rhythm playing. Seriously would gig this set up.
 5.
I'm supposed to be selling basses off but. . . . . . I have been staring at this too long. My passive ones are great, never tried the active - now is the time. I'll have it, if it's not gone. Cheers.
Replied to PM
 6.
Would be nice to add another to my current arsenal of 10 Aria basses! Very impressive bass that!
11 would be so much more rock'n'roll than 10 ;-)
 7.
I did John. Loads of great offers, probably going for a nice fiver!!
Cost you more than a fiver! :-)
 8.
Like so many of the mid range Aria basses of the time, these Laser Classic and Heritage models certainly punch above their weight. Other than what's been mentioned above, this one has had one of the battery clips replaced, but is otherwise all original. Pity the balance doesn't suit you, Slapper.
I know Noel. I've tried 3 spectors, love their sound too, but that 1st fret seems so far away....bizarre given that I'm 6'4" and have long arms. I thought I'd give a longer neck one more try. Like I said, the pups and Pre amp are monsters...I'd half thought of keeping it for a punk/pop gig I play over the summer festival season, as the P tone is huge. But you gotta be comfy... Paul, I'll give her a bathroom scales weigh-in later. John
 9. Made in Japan Aria Pro II Laser Electric Classic, 4-string, 34" (860mm) scale length, 40mm nut width, 18mm pitch. Alder body, with three-piece, bolt-on maple neck, and rosewood touchboard, with graphite nut. MB-III (P-style) and MB-JI (J-style) pickups, with volume control, tone control, three position selector switch, and phase reverse mini toggle switch. Diecast, chromed bridge and mini, enclosed tuners. Bought this very recently from the man who knows his Japanese guitars Mr noelk27. The pickups and 18v Pre amp are very lively and has a huge output with a wide tonal pallet. So, why sell? It's the position of the upper horn strap button in relation to the neck that makes the bass uncomfortable for me. I prefer the strap button to be over the 11/12th fret and this hangs behind the 13th. Silly though it may sound, but it's the reason why I can't get on with Spector basses. I love the sound, but the end of the neck is a little long. I've played this every day, at home, since getting it but it's in great condition, except for a nick on the edge of the bottom of the guitar. The P bass pup on this Laser is the most aggressive I've played, if I was happy to ruin a this classic bass I'd rip the pups and Pre out of it and put them in my Ibby. It has an ungigged set of bass boomers on. Or happy to meet up within 1 hours drive from North Dorset for the same. John
 10. Did you get the pics M? John
 11. Interested in 5 strings?
 12. I bought an Abraham Laboriel "Groove" bass instructional video once. Great player, but crap instructor. As for TF's vid... Presumably made in the 80's, hence the hair, clothes? Loved the "trippy oddness" of it all. I didn't think he was taking himself too seriously, so not sure why anyone else should? He was just giving his opinion at the time, he may have changed what he thinks now, who knows, who cares, Tony Franklin probably doesn't.
 13.
Heart attack??!? You were lucky - I'd have killed to just have a heart attack and die! First I had to steal all the gear I was gonna use, and got away with it by the skin of my teeth. Then during the show my arms fell off, so I had to do the rest of the set with my feet. Then some bright spark threw anthrax powder in my face and took a cheese grater to my 'nads... You don't know you're born you lot!
Luxury....
 14.
Are you me?
No, me!
 15. Power was cut off after 3 songs, and the duke box put on. Reason? We were crap......I was 15, it was my first gig.
 16.
I don't think any of this is what our resident 'enigma wrapped in a riddle inside a mystery' was trying to say. My understanding of his proposition is as follows:

In that there is wide agreement that one's technique and basslines should be servant to the song, not the other way round...
...and that is widely held that playing 'too much' is as deleterious to a song as playing 'too little'
Acclaim seems to be reserved for examples of bass playing which would - in many instances and through their orotund complexity - be contextually inimical to a harmonious and holistic ensemble performance
Given statements 1 and 2, it is paradoxical (and possibly counter-productive) that do we not applaud the intentionally crafted understatement as much as we praise the (sometimes) unrestrained overstatement
Simplicity is undervalued. How odd.
Not much to disagree with there, IMO. Uncontroversial, perhaps. Of course, I could be labouring under a complete misapprehension, given the gnomic nature of many of The Great Man's pronouncements. I shall ask him more on my next trip to Lhasa. .
Easy for you to say.......
 17.
Me, i love a nice chop from a bassist (read any muso) if it is context. I haven't seen this word used yet in this thread which surprises me a bit. Chops/licks are the easy part - its knowing when to play them in context that is the tricky part and is usually the result of experience.
Post #35 Mr. Bottom, post #35....we agree sir!
 18.
Mark King drives the song with his face up agains the windscreen, while Adam Clayton simply, and admirably; supports it. BTW one of may favourite songs to play live is Duffy's 'Mercy'. Muted strings, thumb and first finger plucks..so simple, but the muting accentuates the importance of keeping it tighter than tight. Love it.
Indeed, nice and contextual to the song and style of arrangement/ production. Getting back to Nigel's question, is what the level 42's bass player is playing, with his face up against the screen driving the song, tasteful and contextual to the songs? Likewise mr U2? I have no liking for either bands material, but on the whole IMUO, I would suggest that they are both tasteful as they appear to be contextual. I often have to put aside personal taste, or predjudice, in order to appreciate a bass part that fits the song. But then again, I have no taste and have too many predjudices.
 19. Serve the song.........does the bass line serve the song? I would take a hazardous guess that, no matter how lauded a bass player me be here or any other bass site, there will be a song they have played on where their bass playing hasn't served the song.....even (insert your name here). Can't stand Level 42, but their bass player seems to serve their songs with his approach.....mostly? Can't stand U2, but their man on bass seems to do the same, serve the song that is.......mostly? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they appear to have slightly different techniques from one another. Whatever..........
 20.
GET THEE BEHIND ME SATAN!!!!
AND TELL ME IF ANYONE'S LOOKING...? :-)
 21. I had this and the 1x15 cab with a yorville head. Regret selling them , very solid built kit.
 22. London to Manchester, BBC radio one session. 1 song! Which was a single at the time. That was back in the 80's when I was young and had loads of energy. Now I'll only go out once ive had my tea, and if I'm guaranteed back in time for news at 10! Don't get as much work these days.....?!
 23. They are essentially the same as HighBeams, so are bright-ish. The Bootzilla coated string are a little warmer as they are coated LowRiders. I like BlackBeauties, nice all round string. But, you can't beat flats for a good "vintage thump". As others have and will undoubtedly say, tone is found through a myriad of places e.g. Tone controls, fingers/plectrum use and position, pickup selection, cabs, venue, ear wax, quality of wine drunk that night, hair length, alignment of planets, etc.
 24.
After the informations that have been provided by a great bc member, this isn't the first time that sean dealt with that kind of style. One bc member told me of a deal where sean tried to fool him with the amount of money he handed over. Additional to this, he sold car parts/items, took the money but didn't ship the sold items..so this one is a parallel story. Seems that i bought a bass from the wrong guy
What a scrote.
