I've got a Kimbara acoustic guitar. It's pretty crap. Also all the Kimbara basses I tried when I was a teenager in the 70s were just your low-budget standard Jap Crap. Better than what you'd get shopping at Woolies, but only by a small amount.
I was surprised at how good mine is, it's not crap, and it was for sale. That bass looks solid enough, I'm getting a hankering for 70's and 80's Jap made guitars.
Thanks for this. I have had a few requests to add phantom power to the Di's and Eq's so I looked into it and I am testing a solution this week. If it works and all looks good so far, then I will add this to the design with a small additional cost to cover the extra labour and parts. They will still have the battery or power supply operation but there will be an additional switch to select phantom power. I will offer an upgrade path for anyone with an existing Di or Eq as well, should be around £15 plus return postage, or maybe even a kit for those who can drill and solder. it won't work with the valve range of pedals with Di's as most desks won't have the current required on their phantom power output to run the valves.
Legend! Dave, will you post something on here to let folks know when the phantom power upgrade is available please? Thanks again for a fab product. John

SOLD SOLD Haven't had this long, but was impressed enough with it to get a new gold Gotoh bridge, Wilkinson tuners, Graphtech tusq nut fitted, as it was to be a used as a backup. I had some Dr parts gold tuners that I was going to keep on to match the bridge. They will come boxed with the bass, so you can choose to chuck em on and do what you like with the new Wilko's. Had all bits fitted and set up by local tech who I always use. Currently has new set of Black beauties on, but I'll get originals put back on, re-setup. I was surprised at the high output of the pups when I first plugged it in. I used it at a small festival gig this weekend and it sounded fab. Here's a pic.. it has some marks where a previous/previous owner had fitted a thumb rest (see pics) and there is buckle rash on the back and some small chips on the head stock (see pics). Neck is good. Been looking at USA P's and J's and looks like something is on the cards, so this will not be used. I don't keep guitars to hang on the wall, if they're not going to be played, then they go. But then again my tastes are pretty conservative. I can include a hard case, which is in excellent condition. Happy to deliver/meet up. I'm in Dorset, so could go to Bristol, Bournemouth, Basingstoke, Taunton-ish. I've put £80 into this since buying it last month, with bridge, machine head sets and set up/nut fitting, so prices as follows: Delivered £250 in hard case. Thanks, John
"2 x Bartolini Mk.I’s. Soapbars Passive controls, 2 concentric pots (vol/vol, t/" is that tone/blend or treble/bass on the second pot? that really is gorgeous. wonder if it could be made active? postage and price got me very interested - have you any sound files of it? cheers, mike.
Hi Mike, Second pots are bass/ treble. Previous owner had discussed putting active circuit in. The cavity is at the back, so I guess it's possible without spoiling the top. I think that with the mass of the mahogany, bridge and 35" scale it's not needed it? I've only got garage band to record onto through my iPad, happy to do that and send you a file....don't know how to post that here, but I guess I could try that too. John.

+1 I had one from Dave Hall and I used it on a small tour earlier this year abroad. I didn't want to take backline and didn't trust what I may have had to use. Used this straight to desks, fab clean signal and as said, very nice eq. I use it for acoustic 6 string gigs as an outboard eq/volume/DI box too. I can't believe how inexpensive these are, for what you get. Hand built, here in UK. John
Funny how these threads come back to reading being the benchmark, I started the bass clef YTS thread, and made some effort, only to figure out that what I do is what I do and the time I was devoting to it, was better spent on other things as it wont change what I do (play covers in a number of bands) Im not a pro, wont ever be, but earn from gigs, have fun and entertain others If I could go back in time, Id learn to read, but then Id also learn the cruyff turn instinctively along with loads of other skills, and Id have an arsenal of skills that would challenge batman
I'm sorry but I have to completely disagree..............I'd learn the Franny Lee keepie uppie, followed by the vinnie jones nut grabber and implement it at my local open mic night for those hard to reach notes.

You have no idea how much I try and stay away from these threads, but I'm tempted again to butt in. Musical development is as much to do with those you play with as much as your own "shed" work. This not only includes they're musical skill, but your colleagues as people. I love playing with the acts/bands I play in because of the relationships I have with each band member. You can shove your talent where it doesn't shine if you're an antisocial knob. I am a guitar/bass tutor and my no. 1 mission is to get each student playing with other musicians, firstly to learn the spoken and unspoken language, as well as the written. It is a social activity, where we learn cooperation, listening, putting the song before our own ambition. These are life skills. But then again, I'm a selfish git and you must do as I say, or the talent fairy will come and put a curse on your alembic. Bye

I'm going to suggest there's a lot more to being a musician than, for instance, whether you can play, by ear, "flight of the bumble bee" fluently and accurately with great "groove", whilst hanging upside down in a vat of pims, with your bass behind your neck. Or whether you can accurately read, interpret and play Rachmaninov's 3rd piano concerto on your 6 string foderbernieshukebic. Reading, or "just playing by ear" is only part of being musical......and I don't really even know what that means and I suspect that no one else does in full, we're all on a journey, no ones' is better than anyone else's. I get tired of people laying it on other's about what they should do, we've all been "should on" from a great height at some point or another, don't need it here thank you very much. Very happy to post links to notable blind musicians, classical and contemporary. Or links to deaf musicians who were pretty tasty, again classical and contemporary. But I have a feeling it won't help, as won't this post. Who you are is more important, not what you can do. If you're identity is only in what you can do, then you're royaly screwed if, for some tragic reason, you're unable to do it anymore.

Bought these to match a Gotoh gold bridge on a MIM Jazz. Changed my mind after fitting them, so took them off. They are 1:22 ratio and fit a MIM Jazz bass. They are boxed and approx 1 week old. The screws supplied with this were soft cheap ones, so the cross heads are worn, but usable. I have included some chrome spares that came with the Wilkinson tuners I bought, which are substantially more robust. £10 posted.

Dream rig? no bass or amp. I play "air bass" and the sound coming out is Bernard Edwards crossed with Dee Murray.......is that too much to ask? In the mean time I'll have to do with fender into Markbass and Epifani and sound like me, nightmare!!
